I'm the dork talking in this, and I'm totally pulling stuff out of my ass with this. And I was pretty looped. I am not an expert on the Raiders, better off going to wikipedia. I do know the raiders were awesome and the NW had a very hard rock scene in the early sixties that predates "garage rock".
As for the comments calling me homo and asking how many stages I've rocked? I've rocked plenty, and what's wrong with being a homo? It was good enough for Dee Dee Ramone.
I remember watching that show and I loved the Raiders and I remember the commercials they did many!! They were underated and I think they were one of the top bands in the 60's but like the Monkeys they never got thier respect and ligitimacy. Just listen to thier hits, they were artist period and inovators. True American cultural icons! and screw Dick Clark! Selfish bastard!
I grew up in the '60s listening to these guys here in the Pacific Northwest and they were THE BEST!!
Other GREAT Pacific NorthWest bands were Don and The Goodtimes, The Ventures, The Viceroys, The Wailers, The Sonics, The Beachcombers and of course The Kingsmen!!! Great "Garage Band" sounds!!! I (like namy other guys back then) was in a local (high school) rock band and we ALWAYS tried to coply their style....
I will just say this....I am a professional musician of 42 years....I started professionally when I was 11...I have made many records and played all over the world. Paul Revere and the Raiders was my first concert experience in 1965....in those days you HAD to be good live...because that's how records were made...if you couldn't do it live you couldn't do it. It is too bad that they have been relegated to cookie cutter status by many. Total BS! GREAT BAND! I know..I saw 'em do it!
The Raiders were incredible showmen as well as great musicians...I've seen them in concert several times and would do it again tomorrow if they were in the area. Paul Revere still performs regularly with a younger band and still does a marvelous job of mixing music with comedy and showmanship. As to the legitimacy of their music and lyrics - they opened for the Rolling Stones on their 1965 "World" tour and were so popular by 1966 that the Stones opened for the Raiders. Touche!!
Thank you for such wonderful commentary on Paul Revere and the Raiders!
Can you please tell me where Paul Revere currently plays so that I can get some albums signed :)
I am only 34 but I enjoy restoring old turntables - adore my vinyl that is starting to fill the guest bedroom - and stay in the Midwest because it is 20-years behind ANYWHERE else (other than 3rd world) and their garage sales reflect such in the amount of vinyl!
He plays a lot of county fairs in the west and last I knew was occasionally playing several casinos in Reno, Winnemucca, and Las Vegas. Most of the band grew up in the Treasure Valley surrounding Boise, ID. Paul still has a (very) small property in Boise that is something of curiosity - it's supposedly surrounded by city property and is not accessible. He talks about it sometimes in his shows...
Just came back in December 2010....Paul and his band of 36 years are still great, so tight, and chorographed. Paul is 70 and still very 'witty' as ever. Great 2 hour show in the Andy Williams theatre.

@BigAlum sorry dude, but that isn't true. I saw that show. the Raiders were good but the Stones were top billing. Patti LaBelle, Bo Diddley, the Byrds, Paul Revere and the Raiders and the Rolling Stones i still have the concert boolket I took three other people and total ticiket cost was $26 6..50 or $ 6 a ticket a bargain either way. but the girls' screaming was very annoying
Really nice to hear someone else validate the Raiders place as a legitimate band. I've said it for years.
I dislike it when musicologists seem to trivialize & semi- fans apologize for the Raiders costumes and stage antics. That's what made them special, in addition to the great tunes. Combining a distinct visual appearance, stage antics (including synchronized dance steps ala The Shadows), and everyone in the band just smiling & having fun made them GREAT. It's called being entertaining.
Zep did a wonderful job of imitating Willie Dixon, Howling Wolf etc. Floyd really expanded on what bands like the electric prunes and the 13th floor elivators were doing. And no one came as close to Liberachi as Elton!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Those North West American bands were all hillbillies compared to the slick English bands .....none could write or play or look like the English and the NW bands faded out as the 70's came in with Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Queen, Elton John and others dominated the radio and tours. I repeat... the NW bands were hillbillies !!!!
Let see Northwest American bands as opposed to what the Northwest Engish bands? You're right thou Pink Floyd, Zepplin, Bowie, Queen oh and lety me add a few Eagles, Hendix The Door, Janis I could go on and on all great bands or entertainers. But what you're seeing is evolution. How many stages have you performed on. Different strokes dude. So wipe the dribble off your chin it was a good time.
Got to see them a bunch as my older brothers band The Che-Vels opened for them anumber of times. I mostly rem Mark's big Crisco barrel! The Seattle bands were great too. I miss the kllikes of a Rich Dangle.
Dick Clark has lost a few million not doing syndication, VHS & now DVD for his shows. He's a greedy pig much like Allan Klein who kept his Chubby Checker/Rydell/Orlons etc. tapes in a room for decades while the people who wanted to hear those songs died out.
Saw these guys at "Division" Street or as it came to be known "D" Street. Also the Armory at Lake Oswego and Hillsboro. Good times and good music. Thanks for the memories.
yah... Paul Revere and the Raiders had a little niteclub here in Boise Idaho, called "the Crazy Horse" waaaaaayyy back.. I think I seen them playing there one nite..had to stand outside, cuz I was to young to get in... Stevie guitar Johnson
You know, the more I hear about Dick Clark having great rock n' roll footage of the past pulled because he own the copyright, the more pissed off I get. I used to have a lot of respect for him, but now he's a greedy 'ol SOB who wants to sit on his old Bandstand archives and not share any of it with anyone. Hope he's happy.
Did you know that Paul Revere was a BARBER before he started his band? His first album was an instrumental called "Like Long Hair" and I believe Mark Lindsey played the sax on it.

Jazzbo89 -
That was a 'right-on-point' comment you made about 'the Raiders' (Paul Revere & the Raiders).
I agree with you 100% - - - "It's called being entertaining" was well said!!

@jazzbo89 I love their outfits. I think they are unique and every band needs something special to get recognized. :)
