  • so thats why zildjians sound good...there mostly done by computers as composed to sabians hand worked craftmenship....cool

  • The name of that "cymbal-playing dude" is Leon Chiapinni, who has tested Zildjian cast bronze cymbals for the past 50 years. I have a 10" A series splash and an 18" A series medium-thin crash, and I wonder if he tested them.....

  • Thumbs up if you're here for Keystone Music class!

  • SHINY!

  • 5:56!!!!!!! So many cymbals!!!!

  • 2:56 It's beautiful.....

  • People dint realize how much money it takes to drum. *looks at my broken cymbals... Sigh

  • Cool, I never knew 1 cymbal had t go through all that

  • "So, now we will begin the tour of the factory."

    "Yay!"

    4:58

"...and here is where we keep the finished cymbals-- Were you carrying that massive duffel bag the whole time?"

*Runs with bag full of A Customs*

  • Wouldn't someone know the secret formula if they ran a Zildjian cymbal through a mass spectrometer?

  • Wow

  • i Love how they say these cymbals are being made in Turkey, but at 4:20 it says "Made in USA"

  • if only i had a 20 second shopping spree at 5:00 i would take as many A customs as i can....

  • Ive watched this show for years and never heard a female narrator. Just my favorite Brooks T. Moore and the terrible Mark Tewskbury. Is this women only on the Canadian version?

  • not smart to wear gloves on a lathe like that

  • @EdgedrummingKid yeah right they stink!

  • zildjian only makes avedis crashes and armands the best

  • my 18" zildjian a custom rezo cracked.thanks zildjian!

  • @Burton910h what kind of cymbal was it

  • @andersene95 it said in my comment it was a zildjain a cusom rezo.

  • @Burton910h Playing technique is the reason. Sorry, but its true. Tilt your cymbals toward you more, strike more of the bow of the cymbal with the shoulder of the stick instead of the edge of the cymbal--less likely to stress the edge and crack the cymbal. You can hit harder this way too with less chance of damage. Eventually most drummers --especially ones who make their living with their instruments-- learn this and the cymbals last longer...

  • made with a bit of silver? thats why they r so expensive! :D

  • but how do they make the lip on a china go the other way?

  • @TimMc333 They punch it down.

  • wow

  • ima go to turkey and get cymbals! ITS CHEAPER!

  • Here's my question then; why is it that, with such little variation in manufacturing, are ZXTs so much more expensive than ZBTs. It's not lie it's harder to make them, they all take 21 DAYS!

  • Zildjian Planet Z's are the worst cymbals I have ever played. Other than those, I like Zildjian.

  • Zildjian A's are legendary.

  • now i know why zildjian is too expensive...

  • 1100 BC...??? man wasnt even on this planet then!!!

  • @prosteelheader uhhh yer he was

  • @prosteelheader

    Erh, are you kidding?

Men existed like for 12000 years already. And the earliest cavemen existed in 10000BC.

    PS: They said 110BC...

  • So...I'm buying my "new" cymbals "used" because that dude tests them?! UNFAIR PRICING! xD

  • oh.. fuck .. the founder of sabian is also a ZILDJIAN

  • @skah07 yeah but remember that they are rivals

  • @jesse17ful yeah .

  • :40 Hey made that Cymbal his bitch XD

  • @deoxus5023 Well, I know rayjet lasers can etch stone and metal. I guess it would burn pretty bad!! Search "rayjet" on YouTube it's so sweet

  • 4:23 WTF I didn't even know that was possible that's so legit

  • @justinlovespastry What if that was shined at your face? o.o

  • @justinlovespastry that must mean light sabers are real.

  • They say secret blend... then they reveal the ingredients

  • @Fliers11 yeah but they dont reveal the ratio

  • @Fliers11 OMG noo0o0o0o0o0o0!!!

  • @Fliers11

They reveal the ingredients, but not the ratios.

You can just throw some of the materials they called out together and smelt them, but you probably won't get a cymbal.

    Have a good day :)

  • lmao the heating and cooling slowing makes them brittle..Its when they drop the cymbal in water after it is fired for a longer period that makes it hard. Correct me if Im wrong. Or just watch the sabian factory tour.

  • there are factory made cymbals. in Turkey, we have handmade special cymbals. as she said, these cymbals are the most perfect cymbals in the world.

there are few people know Zildjian is a Turkish cymbal too.

  • As soon as "Zildjian" is sponged on, it gets its $500+ price tag

  • @th3short1 Pretty much.

  • "In this case they’re made of a secret blend of copper, tin and trace amount of silver” Not really a secret now is it

  • still rather have sabian cymbals even though bill zildjian owns sabian...still alot better sounding and durable

  • LOL @ the old man hitting the cymbals.

  • Now I understand better why cymbals are so freagin expensive. Thanks guys!

  • imagine, that was zildjian... paiste's factory would be more amazing hahaha

  • Trademark Turkey....Way to go

  • I love this video... I suggest the Discovery channel to broadcast this video in "how is it made"... its awesome...

  • Paiste Dose all this by hand no machines ! well mostly XD

  • @Gunnershaun1380 kidna depends on the cymbal...paiste's lower end cymbals are made almost all by machine. zildjian's lower end is also almost all machine too. zildjian's been making cymbals for almost 400 years though...they probably know what they're doing.

  • i want the laser!

  • 4:37 = Beauty

  • haha, the guy with the best job in the place is probably damn near close to deaf.

  • @TheTman5487 accidenlty thumbs downed >:(

  • very informative/interesting -- long-time drummer here. Thanks!

  • Custom A Zildjian FTW

  • it's weird that they didn't do Sabian since they usually choose Canadian companies.

  • Zildian can suck it. Sabian is hammered, lathed, and polished BY hand. They don't need any machines.

  • @Neji1210 Both Zildjian and Sabian are equally good. the owners were brothers a long time ago.

  • Yeah I love my Sabian cymbals too.

  • @Neji1210 Sabian was founded by one of the Zildjian family--Robert Zildjian. Sabian is the first two letters of his children's names put together--Sally, Bill, Andy. Even though they are fierce competitors, the heart of what they do is the same. They started by using Zildjian-designed machines in the old K. Zildjian Factory with the same techniques handed down for over 400 years. The whole "Sabian Rules Zildjian sucks" thing is kind of silly, since its essentially the same thing...

  • Think out of the box.

Buy Bosphorus or Turkish UNLATHED cymbals!

  • In what country did this show air? The "how it's made" narrator has always been a guy where I'm at. And something about the website being "how it is made" dot com rather than "how it's made" dot com seems foreign to me.

  • @dazedanconfuzd Really? I knew it at least had to be a different part of the US. Canada eh? I wonder why the lack of contractions?

  • sabian sounds better!!!

  • Omg =D i hand an A symbol by zild =D its a china

  • Thats very cool to see, have wondered this for years. But Im sure they dont need to be as expensive as they are.

  • lol @0.35 - 0.45 !!! look at his arms go :)

  • Comment removed

  • Sabians are made in Canada, and in my view, the best.

  • i dont care if my cymbals are hand hammered or not, as long as they sound good i could care less

  • hand hammered my ass lol!

  • zildjian a custom ftw!

  • hand hamoring sounds so much better. Zildjian stoped doing that so I stopped buying from them. Paiste

  • sabian does it too their hhx line sounds amazing

  • @drumsrule786 yeah They do sound sweet. Zildjian stoped makeing good cymbals. then made them cost about $100 more because the name ZILDJIAN was writen on it.

    JAKE

  • wow this is cool

  • lol its a guy thats talks in the uk

  • I have a 22" Zildjian K Custom Med ride, and I LOVE IT. i've been playing on it for the last 13 years (a little self promotion, CHECK OUT MY DRUM COVERS)

  • Saluda kicks Zildjian's ass =P those do look nice though

  • Just ordered a Mist X ride from them; it's awesome being able to buy a handmade, custom cymbal for the price of a stamped one (Plus most of the big companies reserve the custom order privileges for their endorsing artists, anyway)

  • I'm drooling over all those shiny cymbals.

  • great video, well worth wathing how real cymbals are hand made on the Bosphours factory video

  • it's expensive because of all the hand work. all those steps was just to make ONE cymbal.

  • 5:00 if i could only have 5 minutes of free shopping there....if onlyXD

  • @southpark990 then it would not be called shopping...

    ...it would be called heaven

  • @nickppp100 halleluja:)

  • @southpark990 if only

  • @southpark990 There wouldn't be any left.

  • @southpark990 lol yea id have 4 19'' A med thins 4 19'' k dark med thin 1 22'' a ping ride (1 cause it wont crack the way i play it) 1 21'' sweet ride (same reason) 18'' china and 4 14'' a mastersound

  • @johnboyc5 I would take them all just to be sure;)

  • @southpark990 true

  • ZILDJIANS

  • Looks simple and quick, so why are the so expensive?

  • metal is expensive

  • The name ''Zildjian'' is very expensive, that's it =P

  • @odne1995 I agree. They are so expensive, its unreal.

  • @odne1995 it's not the name it's the quality she said at the beginning that the best cymbals are made in turkey & that's over a long time period like 1000 years they have experience & a sound that's world renowed i'm a trombone/euphonium & guitar & i can tell a zidjian from a pearl cymbal because that a zidjian has 3 or 4 pitches & 20 tones in the sound

  • @stevenhamlin1000 Blah blah kiss my frenulum

  • @CzarThePlezer why are you here you're a wanna be rapper go listen to lil wayne or the next big hip hop craze & forget about him or fuck some prostitute

  • @stevenhamlin1000 Wanna be rapper?

I think you've been misinformed good sir.

  • @CzarThePlezer sorry i just thought you were cause you look like one, my mistake

  • @stevenhamlin1000 well that's ridiculous,

most people i see look like douches though, some aren't to my amazement so I understand.

  • @CzarThePlezer you could get a more clear picture

  • @odne1995 Right, other than that, There absolute crap.

  • Really? The cymbal's were invited in Israel?

    Heh...

  • i think she means zildjian from turkey

  • Paiste Signature Dark Energy blow K custom hybrids out of the water.

Paiste Signature Traditional blow away Ks also..

listen to their sound samples on each website right after the other, and its clear which is better sounding.

dont get me wrong, i do like the sound of Zildjian Ks & As, but Paiste makes theirs better. (also more expensive..)

  • Please A-Custom FTW!!! lol

  • I haven't listened to the sounds, but BETTER is a personal opinion.

  • paiste rude! best cymbal for heavy music!

  • You know I love the Paiste Twenty series. That's what I use and it's just that I've found the best sound in Paiste Of course it's all ones own opinion but for my tatstes I'm just drawn toward Paiste.

  • do you know how many cymbals made zildjian, paiste or sabian by year?

  • only zildjian rides are good imo

  • I have a 22" K custom Med ride, and I love it

I don't have any Zildjian crashes

  • what cymbal was that at 4:14?

  • if i'm not mistaken in was an 18 inch A series crash. it could be a 19 inch A custom but its too dark, i definitely dont think its an A Custom. i'd go with the first one, great cymbal. should last you a good while depending on how you play.

  • thats like my dream crash/ride lol thanks

  • i have to say my favorite part was the part where the silicon stamp presses the cymbal it just looks so cool!!

  • At 1.18 they look like chips xD

  • zildjian k customs and sabian hhx are the best

  • love the grandpaXD

  • Zildjian is the best, no doubt about it. Go the Z3!

  • go A custom and k custom

  • these puns suck...they whole-heartedly do...

  • meinl cymbals.

  • my cymbals were touched by the professionals--the sound tester.

  • Cymbals that suck massive balls: Pearls Rhythm Traveller Drum Kit. The Hi Hat cymbals collapsed the first day and the ride dented in less then 1 hour of playing.

So i replaced the hi hat with zildjian zbt 14" and and add a z-custom 18" crash. Can't wait to replace the ride.

  • Damn....my kit had Paiste 302 Cymbals, and they sound decent for beginners. The 18" Crash Ride has a nice ride, and the crash is just as great as the ride. The thing is, they seem to lack in durability, it's been only like since Christmas(Like 6 or 7 months from now) and the Crash/ride has a HUGE crack, and now it sounds like a china. But the sound is as good as any other china cymbal lol

  • Paiste's are nice. believe it or not, i found most of what i have at yard sales. you never know what u can find for cheap. :)

lol... well, at least you wont have to buy a china then.

  • Yeah Lucky Me

  • i've never found one cymbal, or drum at a yard sale. it's really odd because I go to yard sales every summer you'd think I'd run into ONE

  • I would call it dumb luck. lol it was part of a whole four piece kit, but i talked them out of it and they gave in a sold it. I don't know where you live, if that matters, but i'm in LA, so that might make a difference. who knows lol

  • @ stpepper1138

Kinda strange, I see guitars at yard sales constantly but I've never seen one piece of drum equipment anywhere, maybe they just dont want to sell them that cheap.

meh from personal experience (and a friend) BTW, Zildjian cymbals both cheaper and expensive break very easily

  • i bought a fame drumkit. with very suckisch cymbals, mine are just a plate of metal...... XD

  • The coolest thing in that video was the silicon pad at the end.

  • I love how passionate people are about their cymbal makers.

  • yeah, the way I look at it is all of the three major cymbal makers make good cymbals, and they also make bad cymbals.

  • Zildjian has never failed me. They were the innovators of cymbals and they have a lot of experience. Meinl cymbals are awesome as well. Hopefully in the next year, I will finally liberate my drum kit of my remaining Sabians that I still have from about 6 years ago.

  • Out of curiosity, what kind of Sabians??

  • Gotta go with Meinl or Sabian

  • MEINL IS THE BEST !

  • damn it GIVE ME ONE!!!!! I got no money for new.... fuck!! I need it!!! u have so many! and they r so xpensive :S

  • PAISTE IS THE WAY TO GO FOR SURE!!!

  • SABIAN FOR LIFE!!!

  • It sounds like Master Of Puppets at 0:27.

  • I love how they say " No automatic machine can duplicate the fine touch of an experienced cymbal craftsman." When it just showed machine hammering. Instead of hand hammering. It just makes me laugh.

  • hahahaha yeah

  • i wonder how they make the cheapies like the 50$ hi hat pairs

  • They squeeze them with a press.

  • now i know why they cost's so much! :)

  • zildjians are the best

  • NO, sabian is, sabian still hand hammer's they're cymbals, zildjian is overpriced crap.

  • depends on the cymbals line because zildjian to has some lines that are only hand hammerred

  • you are both wrong. zildjian doesn't offer any cymbals that are hammered by hand. even the k constantinoples are computer hammered. and sabian only offers one line of hand hammered cymbals...the HH series.

it is also completely ridiculous to say one company is better than the other. different people like different sounds and cymbals.

and if hand made cymbals are what makes a company "the best," then bosphorus is clearly the best cymbal company! but thats still not true, there is no best.

  • Nicely put! Could'nt agree more

  • Nicely put

  • i had some paistes a huge china and a small splash they were very nice but im sticking to my zildjians xD sabians are good too

  • im a begginer kinda. my friends who have been drumming for a while have told me im exelent for a begginer. so anyways i need new cymbals cuz the ones i got from my cusion suck. im thinking about getting Paiste PST 5 s what do u think?

  • I think they're great. I don't own them, but I got the chance to test them in a shop.

I play mostly Sabian XS20, which are about the same price I think. The XS20 also sound very good. They sound professional, but don't cost too much.

Perhaps you simply should try different cymbals at a shop, if you have the chance to.

  • Depends how much money you want to spend. Paiste Alpha's are awesome, but i'm more of a Sabian guy. Sabian APX is more high-end B8. but still sound awesome. I would recomend Paiste Alpha, Zildjian ZHT, Sabian APX, and Sabian Xs20. Good luck choosing.

  • Whoah, she certainly knows a lot about that cymbal craftsman. Is it just me or does she talk about him a lot more than necessary?

  • how manyyy"""!!!! I WANT THEM!!!!

  • uhhhh! i bet that looking directly to that laser would make your head MELT!!!!!
