Oh christ I'm sick of people posting a million versions of Dance of The Knights- this great score has about one and a half hours of OTHER fantastic music in it too! Same with the symphonies- get over the bloody 'classical' symphony #1.
@Zerlina12 There has never been an actual rule against female musicians in the orchestra. It was violinist Madeleine Carruzzo who became the first woman member of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1982 (you can see her in this video at 1:33).
What's the name of the blonde female violinist who moves in and out of the picture during the harp solo? I think I've seen her in recent performances.
What is the name of the gentleman sitting next to the principal 2nd violin and which years did he serve in the orchestra? I thank you for your responses!
The part at 1:02 / 1:03 is the best! And the Berlin Phil's low brass nailed it! Absolutely wonderful! Loved the german sound added into it too! As i'm so used to it with an English/British sound :)
@murphy456 i know i wasn't asked, but i'll just throw myself at this question... at the current point i prefer berlin, but it's not that easy! chicago has better low brass, trombones and tuba, while in berlin the trumpets and horns are unbeaten! although i'm a trombone player myself but i think a magnificent horn section like in berlin makes it a whole better orchestra...
Thanks for posting this, amazing brass at 1:00 :)

What year was it when Berliner philharmoniker aloud women to play? Its seems here it just one girl.
Zerlina12 6 months ago
@Zerlina12 No, there are at least 2 in the video. Watch the person out of focus during the close-up of the harp at Pahud's flute solo.

@winrx It is Hanns-Joachim Westphal, who played in in the orchestra for incredible 50 years, from 1951 to 2001.

@mortalfrog0815 In the seventies I would have said Chicago because of Bud Herseth. Nowadays I would definitely say Berlin. Off the subject - -
Karajan R.I.P.
