Before this I just watched the new doc "Vietnam in HD". After watching this one though I would call the new one borderline propaganda.They mention how the people turned against the soldiers and the war but never mention why soldiers lost the public's support.
They never mention any war crimes and portray the way the war was fought as a patriotic act.
It's frustrating to know the truth of the Vietnam war is fading, I wish this doc would be shown in schools. I guess it's more comfortable to forget

Soldiers are not criminals, soldiers follow orders and do their job so NEVER call them criminals because they went through hell for a cause they thought was right and i find it disgusting that people can sit back in their lounge rooms and call them such things

@TheGus619 To a degree I agree with you on this. Soldiers are largely pawns in a game played by politicians however on the flip side there are certain orders soldiers should NEVER follow. This is often what separates good soldiers from bad soldiers regardless of fighting skills.

There have been many cases that i've heard (Iraq mainly, not sure if this ever happened in Vietnam) of soldiers saying no to orders and then reporting their officers with the officers subsequently being court marshalled. I'm not taking a dig at soldiers here I want to join the British Armed Forces myself but with the power to kill comes the responsibility of not committing murder of civilians.

Low-level of 486,000 civilians died; the mid-level was 843,000, with a high level at 1,200,000. The Communist estimate is 2,000,000. In any case a bombing campaign that dropped 3 times as much as was dropped in all of WWII must have caused many of these, along with napalm, & artillery. These do not cover Cambodia or Laos. It was drug out for ten years by the Industrial-Military-Complex.

The idea of fighting a war based on attrition, or body count, is not only a sin, but is very stupid and tactically wrong. The body count eventually led to civilians being killed. Many helicopter gunners used to brag about killing "gooks" in rice paddies. Mei Li, and the atrocities committed by the Tiger recon teams are just a tip of the iceberg. Before I left in June of 67, I had heard horror stories about heads being dangled from belts. They were all true.

This is the best overview of the Viet Nam war I've ever seen, and I've seen more than a few of them. People should watch this in conjunction with Sir! No, Sir! which is a solid history of how American troops, many of whom were responsible for terrible atrocities, turned against the war and forced the Nixons and Johnsons to get out of Viet Nam. Also, look up Traveling Soldier dot org for the opposition in the armed forces today to the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan.
