  • I love this song from many many years

  • every party i go to with my mates, this song will be sung as loud as we possibly can.

  • This song was the song I heard when they put my call on hold at TradeKing; and I love it from that moment on! Really love it!

  • I love this song lol

  • What to throw away: Lady GaGa and her 'poker face' song...which can't match a song like this. What to keep: Kenny Rogers. I'd say the Gambler would do this.

  • i used to know the words by heart

  • My daddy loved him. He sounded just like him. He was a Big Kenny fan. R.I.P daddy i love you.

  • 14 Leute wissen wohl nicht was Musik ist

  • Does anyone know what album of his has this version of the song?

  • Is "broke even" slang for died?

  • @JGCooney yh

  • @JGCooney Yes.

  • Took me forever to find the right version of this. thank you for uploading! I can't stand the other versions

  • Thumbs up if Blackpool brought you here :)

  • I only knew this song sang by The Chipmunks and I don't use to like the original versions, but I have to admit it, this one is good.

    Thanks for the vid!

  • This song will forever remind me of an episode of Golden Girls. Sophia said, "It's like the Good Book says 'You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em'...". Dorothy says, "Ma, that wasn't God, that was Kenny Rogers."

  • I have a confession to make. I have this on my itunes, and it's one of my most played tracks.

  • awesome song

  • *Whisky.

  • Fcukin Love This Song ! <3

  • 13 people don't know good music

  • I LOVE THAT SONG <3 :D

  • 13 people die in their sleep!

  • I sing this when I fold laundry

  • fu***ng great song.

  • 13 people lost everything cause they didn't know how to play the game!

  • how can anyone dislike the kendog :O

  • Why does he talk about playing a Gameboy?

  • @ripcurl367 they forgot the comma. game, boy*

  • we most likely wouldnt be on this page if we didnt listen to the song lol

  • Like this if you still listen to this song in 2011!! :))

  • the gambler sounds like my dad

  • best man to ever live :)

  • i found it weird that he said that the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep

  • Good song

  • i was the 1000 'liker' . whoop whoop!!

  • @unclepunkle In vino veritas. In wine there is truth. It may be whiskey, but the truth is the same.

  • i swear everytime i listen to this i always expect its to say 'know when to run, YOU GOTTA COUNT YOUR CHICKENS!' xD i know the lyric isnt that, but count your chickens just pops into my head xD

  • Or maybe a bankrupt, alcoholic, gambling addict, who can't even afford a cig is the perfect person to ask for advice on life

  • 12 people dont know how to hold them.

  • @freakupcool Or when to fold 'em

  • @kornkid13 if you want someone to listen to your opinion dont begin your sentence with "on the contrary"

  • hahaha with sub-titles... i think the word your looking for is lyrics

  • Classic

  • my childhood song. I really love it!!!! <3

  • This song is about a MURDERER. He murdered that old man.

  • today at school my freind and i dossed a half an hour class in the school bathroom , i had this song on repeat and i had my fags as well , let me tell you it was the best half an hour class i ever had :) ...remember kids stay in school and dont be a fool :L:L

  • He is better at being kenny rogers than kenny rogers is at being kenny rogers.

  • I'm sure I'm not the only one who's realized this, but this song has a surprisingly dark undertone. The advice comes from a man who presumably passes away in his sleep shortly after taking the last swig of another man's whiskey bottle. i don't know about you, but I'd be rather nervous sitting in a room of a train car with a man who just died for no discernible reason.

That said, I love the song.

  • :)

  • true that man true that

  • I could sing this song all day

  • 11 people didn't know when to fold them

  • @Libowekitty now 13

  • @Libowekitty make that 13!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Libowekitty add 3 to that. how sad they didn't know when to fold them. ♥♠♣♦

  • 11 People didnt have a bottle of whisky to give

  • 10 people got beat on the river....should've folded pre-flop....

  • The 10 delicate flower's, how can you not like this?

  • De las mejores canciones que he escuchado.

  • got to be one of the most honest songs i ever heard

  • Unfortunately, my Gameboy was out of batteries when I was given this advice.

  • 10 People lost all their money gambling.

  • Who would imagine a kid in Africa listening to Kenny Rogers...lol heard this song when I was about 10...still listen to it, Im an hip hop head, yet i still love this song, i guess thats how you define good music...it knows no boundaries.

  • These vlyrics are amazing.

  • Did the gambler die in his sleep... right there on the train??!

  • @dwayne0t Yep.

  • @dwayne0t Yes, Hinted at by "He broke even" and stated when he said "In his Final words"

  • best karaoke song FTW! My mother and I are going on a cruise in 7 weeks so we are practicing this song to own! :D

  • 777 Likes on 'The Gambler'

    Kinda appropriate?

  • A TRUE AUSSIE SONG :)

  • @ty74n wtf?

  • DAC's version is better, but at least ole Kenny provided inspiration for THE LEGEND.

  • a bankrupt ,alcholic, gambling addict who cant even afford a cig is ptobably not the best person to ask for advice on life

  • @unclepunkle lmao!!! That did occur to me as well!!!

  • @unclepunkle The song never said that he was Bankrupt, Alcoholic, or an Addict. He said he made his life gambling because he was good at it. He asked for the last drink of Whisky since im guessing he could feel himself fading and well, most people would like a last drink. Being on a train to nowhere does not mean he was bankrupt either, Nowhere can mean alot of things and in my opinion he was probably trying to get away for his final moments

  • @Harulein exactly what I said!

  • @unclepunkle haha, good call sir

  • @unclepunkle by conventional standards yes. however, I believe there was some wisdom behind the gambler. he lived his life to the "extreme" he might have died with nothing but his life was much more full than most peoples. it might not have been full of material, but it was full in a different way. a way not appreciated by most people today (including myself, I am very materialistic).

  • @unclepunkle you do alot of assuming. First of all, it never says he's banktrupt OR an alcholic. just because you like whiskey and are a gambler doesnt make you these. second he could easily just be out of cigs. many people ask others for one. dont assume on everything, just enjoy the song.

  • @unclepunkle Thats not really the spirit of the song.

  • @unclepunkle Thats not really the spirit of the song.

  • @unclepunkle lol man

  • @unclepunkle : actually, they've been through alot obviously. so depending on the person, they could be the best person to take advice from. for example, if someone were to tell you not to do drugs, wouldnt you rather them be experienced on the topic. like if they had never gone through any of it then how could they give good advice. the best advice given is advice backed up by experience.

  • @MrVolcom9887 you might be holding an ace there man lol

  • @unclepunkle Or on the contrary... He's been through so much, that he knows what he's talking about ! :P :P One never knows...

  • @unclepunkle Or the best

  • @unclepunkle

    ^^

  • @unclepunkle LOL,, Well he broke even...

  • @unclepunkle On the contrary, he's probably made all the mistakes you can in life, but it's too late for him... the best advice is the mistakes of others. ;)

  • @unclepunkle you wanna bet, lol

  • @unclepunkle Kenny rogers did and he turned out fine...right??

  • @unclepunkle hey shut the fuck up kenny rogers is a great man and id take advice from him anytime!!

  • @pottyottyottenger he means the gambler on the train....not kenny himself

  • @unclepunkle ...It was good advice, really.

  • @unclepunkle You don't get it, do you?

  • @unclepunkle Maybe he has some life experience

  • @unclepunkle you are talking about an fictional character, this was wrote by someone far more significant then a bum on a street.

  • @unclepunkle I wouldnt be so sure about that because if you sit down with them, they know how to survive in any circumstance...... oh and it doesn't say he is bankrupt, just because you drink doesn't make you an alcholic, and just because he gambles does mean he loses everytime AND he could afford a cigerette because all he asked for was a light. Maybe you should listen to the song before making comments like that! Enjoy the song.

  • @SuperNah2That Well.. the text says "then he bummed a cigarette"..

  • @tuborgsommer still doesn't mean he was broke!

  • @unclepunkle Point.

  • @unclepunkle I can't click thumbs up enough times on this. You made my day!

  • @unclepunkle Indeed, however it's the best person to write a song about, a damn good one too.

  • @unclepunkle whether someone is rich or poor is irrelevant.

  • @MrUnclepeanuts finnally someone says it

  • "so if don't mind my saying, I can see you are out of aces." How many times in my life have I been "out of aces" and remembered this Kenny Roger's song about life being a gamble: "'cause every hand is a winner and every hand is a looser, and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep." So is question of knowing when to fight, when to accept defeat, when to just walk away, easier said than done.

  • i luv this song

  • The best country song i agree. Cant get enough!!!!!

  • i like this one it is a good country song like xx

  • This is the best version of all the Gambler vids, the others are either low quality sound, too soft OR a CROWD FULL OF IDIOTS CLAPPING... people wnat to hear the song, not incessant clapping.

  • @jorge9177 Dude, you expect people not to clap when this legend is playing?

  • One of his many great tunes.
