With the greatest respect, Arantxa was always a little over the top when it came to questioning calls and perhaps a consequence of that is that she was never as popular as the likes of Steffi or Jana. If you watch the 1996 French Open final the crowd are less than impressed over her constant questioning of calls. She was jeered mercilessly in the quarter final against Habsudova as well for using moonballs on key points.
sorry rephrase the first sentence.....Jana accused Arantxa of gamesmanship in the Olympics for questioning a call. Arantxa was not questioning Jana or being rude to her or never has been. She was questioning a call. They all want to win. Such a shame that such a great doubles team split apart from something so stupid. I love Arantxa and I like Jana. Jana had no business making the comments she made.
I remember this match well. I watched it on TV live. It was at a time when Novotna and Sanchez had a falling out after the olympic games and Sanchez had accused Jana of gamesmanship. Anyway this arguement continued into wimbledon and just before this match Sanchez gave a scathing interview and made quite an inflammatory remark about Jana. During this match however, Jana played the most attacking i'd ever seen her play.
@Silverchair84 Correction..........Jana said accused Sanchez of gamesmanship for questioning a call. Then in the interview before this match Jana said Sanchez was a week player and had a week forehand attacking her game. Sanchez came back and said "well we all see the results out there and once she wins a Grand Slam she can talk about it!" Jana attacked not Arantxa. I have video to prove it.
