Ah this melody brings nostolgia, back when the games where peices of art. Everything was art work in the old Black isle games.Every item, every map, every page of journal or magic books... everything was so beautiful. The dragons were epic! :D I remember fighting the shadow dragon for the 1st time and having a heart attack.
BG II and BG TOB will and always will be in my heart.
This is the best music in the entire series. Mystical, awe-inspiring ...... The PERFECT game. Bioware's stuff since this has been disappointing. What happened to the quality of the writing and awesome moments like this ???
havent even played a Bioware product since this game... shame on me... but AFA i hear their writing is still good? and we have Dragonage taking it back to this kind of gameplay again.
They're certainly taking their time over it ! Here's hoping. The writing, the music, the artwork in the IE games : just fantastic. But also, the humour, the drama - there's just something special about these games which defies analysis. My guess is that it's a simple case of a group of people all hitting their artistic peak at the same time. Big hopes for Dragon Age.
well they really are trying, it's easy to see the effort made and the distance taken with Storm of Zehir. Though not an exceptional game, truly a return to the old-style navigation system with newer graphics and better engine. also the "non-character following awesome isometric 3d camera" system was introduced with Mask of the Betrayer. They have done MUCH in the course of re-reaching what RPG was once. You can clearly see the difference between NWN2 and its expansions.
Its going to be VERY difficult to bring back the Baldurs Gate experience and its depth in the modern gaming environment. Too much emphasis on graphics and visual effects, and less on story and character. Too many games dumbed-down for the console market.
you ask me they have done it... i believe so anyway... what may be misguiding is that they do not show too much of the tactical overview gameplay and ofcourse everyone has heard of the annoying 5 turn pre ordering or the AI takes over the member again. but last i've heard they made sure the AI doesn't hijack them anymore and so it will be more like baldur's gate. but forget big mage fights that was unique for ToB because of the high levels.
In 10 years, games will be nothing more than killing and stealing. There will be no plots, no stories, no artistic expression. It will be graphics, graphics, graphics, and gore, gore, gore.
@KhagarBalugrak mass effect 2 is a great game, and the writing is superb. its not a hardcore rpg like bg series, but its not meant to be, and the story telling is of bioware's usual high caliber
@Zeuts85 Just because a developer studio goes defunct doesn't mean all the people suddenly disappear from the world. The Black Isle people are still around - they simply founded Obsidian Entertainment after Black Isle went defunct. Obsidian did NWN2, KotOR2, some of the NWN1 expansions, Alpha Protocol, and many other awesome games. Black Isle is still there :-)
@Zeuts85 Ok even though Dragon age origins is my favoruite game of all time this is a close second for me. Sure im from the newer generations of gamers but i had to stop tons of times in BG2 just to go... "fucking hell this is awesome" i mean the first time you get timestop is just.... well not many games emulate the way this game makes you feel. Its a masterpeice.
all the consoles came out and games just becamse yet another industry about the speed of production and the number of sequals - rather than about making true art
One of the greatest game songs ever, this is what made the bg-trilogy so great... It creates a feeling of hopelessness, mourning for something lost ages ago...

Finger's crossed. I'm hoping that Bioware have remembered what they were about when they made BG and all the awesome IE games.

as far as i've seen from the demonstration videos and interviews, they're very keen on bringing back the Baldur's Gate experience

Unfortunately it wasn't Bioware alone. They worked with Black Isle on these old classics. Black isle is gone now. :(

@Calyptico May very well be one of the most tragic pieces ever written. The tenor voices create such an incredible dissonance of sadness...
