1 of the things I love about John Mayer's stuff is while he writes some GREAT, he's not afraid to pay respect to those who have led the way for him to get into the biz that's why you'll hear him playing artist like Chuck Berry or Tom Petty!
@kobefan131 well actually one of the things that got Mayer wanting to play guitar was seeing Back to the Future and seeing Michael J. Fox's character playing this song. Do some research.
@TheFabFour He usually plays some classic songs in between songs. Here in the Netherlands he played Sex Machine by James Brown and I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 during the bridge of Why Georgia :P
DUDE TRIO SHOW MUST HAVE BEEN AMAZING..damn i missed this show..tix sold out ): but im going to staples center in march but wont be the same as trio..sigh
@kobefan131 I wouldn't be complaining about concert prices at $80, for his battle studies tour it was $120 a person in Australia. That's expensive. Added to the fact that anyone not living in the eastern states had to travel/get accomodation
@Gupps0123456 it was $80 before ticketmaster fees, so around $100 after. which is pretty god damn expensive. i can see why it'd be more expensive in australia though, because of having to fly a whole crew out there and all the expenses that go with that. not saying $120 is a fair price, but if they think $80-100 is fair for the US, I can see why they'd charge that much down there.
I remember reading in an interview a while back that what inspired mayer to first pick up the guitar was the "Johnny B. Goode" scene form Back to the Future....its so awesome to see him cover some Chuck
Ugh. Too awesome.

vivalaking 1 year ago
@vivalaking it's not a back to the future reference. it's a reference to chuck berry's signature move.

@kobefan131 your right- Ive never seen Mr. Berry, only heard him.

@kobefan131 non the less it was back to the future that made him want to start playing

that is one of the things. But don't discredit Stevie Ray Vaughan. SRV is one of the biggest reasons if not the biggest.
