Well.. This is Emirates flight Dubai to Kochi (India) which was over Goa air space and stuck into Air Pocket 23000 feet to 2000 feet free fall towards land and its because of skilled emirates airline pilots everyone saved and aircraft got controlled over 2000 feet. * you can imagine 23k to 2k feet free fall into air pocket. Thanks to pilots. Lucky people. (this is not any african flight)

@mrrodneyalong I do agree, but I also know in real life situations pilot's are often served their lunch or dinner on a tray, with an open cup of juice or coffee, which they place in front of them at the controls, often they even get it served simultaneously, so in case of emergency or autopilot error or failure, no one is able to respond quickly, and the controls could even wear two cups of liquid. Crazy hey, I don't know if all airlines operate this way though.

like a flight i had from las palmas to newcastle onboard mytravel a320 everyone was happily eating the meal and we hit and airpocket that lasted about 10 seconds orange juice and meals were everywhere i just held mine down so i still had a meal to finish :L

@shadowblade145 Read my comment carefully, I never said the pilot caused it (is that even possible?). What I did say was that after encountering such severe weather (enough to dislodge cabin items) it makes no sense that the pilot would both be out of his seat and allow the camera-man into the flight deck to distract him. Especially considering that they just encountered Clear Air Turb. and not the "normal" "predictable" turbulence.

@upiluften That's why there is two pilots. And the camera man was probably part of the crew on the aircraft.

@shadowblade145 The Pilot is out of his seat.. the Co-Pilot isn't. The Pilot has precedent, more experience, than the Co-Pilot. I think it's safe to say that it'd be normal to expect both pilots to be seated, at-the-ready, after encountering adverse conditions. And, unless the camera-man was a navigator (I don't think Airbii have ever necessitated a third person in the cockpit) he shouldn't be in there. A flight attendant sure as well won't be any good bumping around in the cockpit.

@upiluften I'm not saying any of it was the "right" thing to be doing after something like that, infact it could have ended badly had there been another patch of turbulent air, but the co-pilot was still seated and could have swung around in time to stop anything threatening to the aircraft and it's passengers.

@shadowblade145 I don't know what's right in this situation.. what airline this is, is not stated. But I'll just make the assumption that it's an African airline.. in which case it would be probable that they don't have the same safety standards as a US (or European) airline, and that they were trained differently.

All I know is that in the US, this would NOT fly well with upper management. The fact that it's all caught on tape would really screw the pilots. NWA laptop pilots fired...
