really classy video rob......pretty soon your collection might enter into cricket folklore.......though i do not agree with hilditch being raina's idol....raina's shots on bouncers seldom clear midfield...mostly caught inside inside the ring...and most of hilditch's shots would have been sixes on indian grounds
i heard that at one point opposing teams proposed to go back out after lunch onto the field with just 3 playes -- the bowler, the keeper and one guy placed with precision to take the inevitable hook-shot catch.
steve waugh career nearly got over playing that shot and when he made a come back he never played that shot and played for australia without getting dropped from selection because he never attempted that shot ever again
Rob-I remember Hilditch scoring a valuable ton against the mighty windies in 84-85 series....It sounds incredulous but I followed him for a while after and realized his moth2flame hook shot resulting in numerous/predictable/embarrassing dismissals. My observation from just a keen cricket lover perspective is....Hildy plays uppish pull shots rather than true-blue hook shots that apparently resulted in quite a few dismissals. Smokin Joe is a perfect example for essaying ferocious hooks n Jimmy!
Ha Ha...What was he trying to do...Each time he is playing the pull shot he is finding the fielder....Anyway its good that he has been axed from the Australian selection panel...Great upload u master Rob..
@crazycurry90 wait...at 3:24 - VC??...the only selector worse than hilditch is someone who dreamt up the idea of giving him the vice-captaincy...was australia REALLY that desperate in the mid 80s?
I'm not a Hilditch fan, I hated him as a selector, but he didn't go too badly during this Test series. He scored 424 runs at an average of 38.54 with a century and a fifty. Not terrible, really, unless you're Bradman.
I remember the 85 Ashes series well. All Botham had to do was look at Hilditch to get him out. Whatever possessed Cricket Australia to make him chairman of selectors is beyond me - and I reckon it's beyond most Aussies too.
Why do you need slip fielders with Hilditch??!

Looks like he took his great shot selection and applied to his selection style ><

no wonder out of 18 tests that hilditch played, australia lost 8 and won just 3..

What is Frank Tyson saying at 3:06? Who on earth is "Harry Keery"? :)
Nice touch to put the two successful hook shots in at the end of the video; creates a nice bit of pathos.

Strange it has the 1st test from the 85 series at the end. Happy hooking then. Wouldn't mind seeing a few of the tests from that series, Rob.
