***ICE CREAM *** Love this cartoon so very sad and very moving. I toured Moscow in 2003, Just heard on a show last night that Russians love to eat freezing ice cream cones in winter time . LOL Along with the famous Walrus dunking plundge in ice water to remind them how winter helped them win over German Nazis during WWII. We love Cheburashka and Gena ! Yeeey ! XXX

no, not at all: its not about 500 Eskimos, its more 500 pieces and Eskimos means ice cream. In USSR it was a brand of ice cream-but nice song that we had to learn in the GDR.
for some reason i find this song very sad, it could make me cry before I had any idea what the lyrics mean and now, years after I first heard it it still has the sam effect.
Pomnyu: dyevushka p'yela etu pyesnyu v malenkom ukrainskom gorodke, potom ya uchilsya yeyo v shkole... eh nostalgia! A dolgo, dolgo potom ya p'yel etu pesnyu s druzyami v Kieve... A teper... vsem privet iz Turks & Caicos Islands! Vash -
Let them run awkwardly, Pedestrians through the puddles, Water flows on the pavement all day, People have no idea, On this day of bad weather, Why oh why I'm so happy and gay. refrain: I am playing my accordion, For passers-by to see and hear, Such a pity that a birthday, Comes just once a year. Suddenly a magician, Flies in blue helicopter, And he shows me a movie for free, "Happy birthday" he tells me, And no doubt he will leave me, With a gift of five hundred ice-creams. refrain
One of my Russian friends sent me this on my birthday yesterday. :) I love it! The tune is sad, very melodic, and despide the sad note it makes me feel good! :)

Inaccurate* is what I meant about the subtitles.
I know, I actually have had an Eskimo in Russia. :D. It was delish. Thanks for trying to clear it up to me though.
