  • LMAO @MobKnowledge

  • Andre the Giant might be a pop-culture icon and been a helluva nice guy, but he makes The Great Khali look like fuckin Batman.

  • 7:34 the ref is like, seriously guys, one of you has got to do something

  • worst match ever.

  • i can imagine andré saying to studd "ok boss i'm going to sleep now, zzzzzzzzzzz"

  • he's asleep

  • Just like UFC!

  • Andre the Giant once fell asleep during a match with Big John Studd.

Although there's never been confirmation of this, it definitely seems like Andre the Giant decided to take a little nap when wrestling Studd back in the 1980s.

I mean, that video is eight minutes long, and all it features is a front face lock. Yeah, that's it.

  • @B4CHA Nice Job copying and pasting this from Bleacher Report's article.

  • Comment removed

  • @SackAttack445 haha I was just reading that article

  • this match was still better than any of Kelly Kellys matches

  • Andre: Fuck this, I'm taking a nap

  • @akashtaker LOL yeah its like watching UFC!

  • This 8 minute headlock was still more entertaining than any Jon Cena promo

  • worst match ever

  • "Yeah..and a good 7 minutes here with the headlock still locked in."

  • looks like WWF/E trying to be UFC

  • BR sent me here

    Somebody call my momma

  • I hope this was not planned !! LOL!

  • lol @ the commentary.

    @3:05

Dick: "Andre looks to be asleep. Not saying he IS, but it looks that way"

    Gorilla: "He's not asleep, Dick"

    @7:06

Gorilla: "Well, while we have a break in the action, let me tell you..." and starts advertising the next event.

And finally, as they lay in the front facelock, Dick says "It's still anybody's match" lol

If I was in the arena, I would've wanted a refund.

If I was watching on TV, I would've turned the channel.

Then again, I was only 3 at the time lol

  • I would hate to have to commentate this match...

  • Andre just took a nap under Big John´s sweaty arms.

  • some people have said andre fell asleep on this match

  • FOOT UNDER THE ROPES, BREAK THE HOLD

  • They were arguing and couldn't agree on the next spot. This debate went on for 8 minutes.

  • This is pretty smart from a REAL fighting aspect. It is boring as hell for pro-wrestling.

  • apparently andre fell asleep sometime durin this from wat ive heard lol

  • the crowd is still louder than at any indie show nowadays.

    good psychology.

  • Comment removed

  • why they breakout the headlock at the end anyways?

  • thats the real sleeper hold

  • Randy Orton ( Early 2002 ): Hey dad OVW sent me to the WWF!!

Bob Orton: Congrats son you finally did it!! ( Hug )

Randy Orton: But can you teachj me some moves please i need to know more?

Bob Orton: Ummm... son... my videos were destroyed years after i retired... here watch this ( Video Thats Playing right now )

    Randy Orton: Ok dad thanks!

Randy Orton ( 8:41 Later ): nice i will do better in the future haha!!

  • Hey...it's professional wrestling...being that it's a completely legitimate athletic contest, you can't gaurantee what the action will dictate. Studd put him in the hold because he believed that it would be his best shot at wearing down Andre and winning the match...deal with it!

  • @Derby14 i hope you're joking

  • Both men had their feet under the bottom rope the entire hold...

  • You do know Andre fell asleep in the headlock thats why it was so long so it did not make him look bad,

  • @brockington10 right on thats a well known fact about this match

  • @conn324 Thx man!

  • @brockington10 NO PROBLEM BTW I SUBBED YOUR CHANNEL

  • LOL

  • Perhaps Andre had one too many cases of pre-match wine that day.

  • Moan all you want, they did nothing but a facelock for 8 minutes and popped the crowd like a half-dozen times... most guys in the E wish they could get half as much out of twice as much work.

  • @eldiablonoche Crowds back then would pop for a simple stomp to the chest. Not that impressive.

  • the ref should have just counted them out and then dropped a big turd on the back of Andre's head.

  • My grandfather said back in the 20's and 30's, if a guy got a headlock you could go out and have dinner, come back and nothing would have changed.

  • LOL

  • @slydewinder Wrestling was boring as shit back then. Seriously

  • @slydewinder That's what my dad said about the 60's lol

  • Thanks for posting this. I saw this one live at the ol' Philthy Rectum (I was almost 10 at the time.) Bob backlund beat Ivan Koloff in the main event.

In case anyone's wondering. This match ends soon after with Studd picking Andre up to slam him, but collapses under the weight and Andre gets the pin.

This match always stuck in my head for being so boring when these 2 had great matches on TV with a good feud going.

  • I think they were trying to make it into a technical match, which both Andre and Studd were not good at, and should have stuck to their own styles

  • Reminds me of the classic Sonny King leglock match on Memphis TV some thirty years ago or so...

  • Studd should have flipped him over, hooked the leg and claimed the pinfall. 'Nuff said.

  • this was a sad moment ,ive seen mathces between thies 2 on youtube outside the wwe ,and those matches rocked ,check out the match they had in japan in 1983 with studd wrestling under a mask ,

  • Andre actually fell asleep in this match!!

    Fact!!

  • This is better than Flair-Steamboat; scientific wrestling at it's very best.

  • Andre was most likely wasted.

  • he probably was

    but he fell asleep haha

  • He fell asleep. Trust me he did. Big John Studd was boring him so he decided it wasn't worth it.

  • omg lol

  • at 5:00, it's like Andre woke up and was like "Who touched my food?!?" and then rolled back over to sleep. I would have loved to have heard JR call this one.

  • I think the Iron Sheik was right about Andre. "He was so fucked up, for drunk, and his medicine...That guy would come in the ring, he was so fucked up, he doesn't know how to even control himself."

  • Do your research. Andre was knocked out during this. What else could you do but put him in a hold until he woke up?

  • What research? I can't find anything.

  • ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz snort hugh!!! What???!!! What's going on????

This is how back in the 50's and 60s they had two guys wrestle to 1 hour and 90 minute time limit draws. I think there was even a match that went to a two hour draw.

  • That was in the 20's and 10's but whatever.

  • Andre actually fell asleep during this instance. True story, research it on Google, many articles on it.

  • I googled and couldn't find anything on this match.

  • Why didn't andre and john check in for some rooms at the motel 6 my god this was too long!

  • Andre must of had a lot of wine that day!

  • Man, if this match would've happen at Hammerstein Ball with ECW fanatics, they would have absolutely shitted the hell on this.

  • NO they wouldnt. We would yelled zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!! We have respect for the legends.

  • Well that was good time to take some rest... :D

  • this match took place on June 4, 1983

  • post more spectrum matches that wont get deleted

  • Even the commontators were like, Come on guys...

  • Okay, that is ridiculous. I'm a traditional wrestling fan, but that's terrible!

  • Randy Orton would be proud.

  • @funkyflashman dont say shit cuz i dont get this, but what do you mean

  • @iNfEcTedcloWn69 Orton is famous for his extra long headlock of doom holds.

  • lol Andre's foot was outside through the ropes in clear view of the ref. It should have been broken?

I think Vince Jr did this on purpose.. ya know, make something really dull and boring to make Hulk Hogan seem like a breath of fresh air. If so.. smart move "Mr McMahon"

Anrde fell asleep in a standing headlock against Studd.

Big Show fell asleep standing up in 1999 whilst Shane McMahon was cutting a promo. lol.

  • This was right at the time Vince Jr. took over. Could this have been Studd and Andre's way of testing what they could get away with under the new boss? Like kids testing the limits of their parents.

Unfortunately, Andre's movements on the mat were the quickest I ever saw him in the ring. But I only saw him when he could barely walk during his 87-90 years.

  • ONE WORD.....DAMN

  • That's Andre the Giant and Big John Studd! Sweet!

  • I think Andre was asleep. Just kidding.

What in the world were they thinking. I like how the commentater sits there and says all the ways this move could be broken. If the crowds then were the way they are now they would be chanting all sorts of stuff tearing these guys some new ones.

  • nah seriously, i remember reading years ago that andre fell asleep during a match with studd. i'm sure this is it

  • Rest holds are standard but nap holds? Come on. If anyone was going to be wierd enough to fall asleep in a match it would be Andre.

  • Randy Orton uses longer rest holds.

  • O...M...G

  • lol, wtf

  • What about when Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude beat the R&R Express for the NWA titles? Didn't Rude keep Morton in a chinlock for 30 minutes in that match? TBS showed the match, but with the chinlock edited out. Maybe that's only a rumor, but what a sell by Ricky Morton if that happened.

  • looks like he just felt like takin a nap.lol. i think a hold. ANY hold. should never be administered for more than a minute.

  • ....zzzzzz.....zzzzz......

  • lol a 8 min headlock how cool

  • I wonder if this is the match where Andre actually fell asleep in the match against Studd.

  • I think that was during their second go-round in '89, when Studd was the face and Andre the heel.

  • Definately not 89....It's early 80s from the Philly Spectrum. The Spectrum had stopped using it's logo on the mat by 89. Plus heel Andre wore the singlet, not the tights.

  • Just to see Andre down this long was worth the price of admission in those days never before was he ever down this long during a match plus you didn't know if Andre would pass out or have his shoulders down for a 3 count. If he lost it would have been his first WWF defeat the suspense was intense.

  • 5 star classic. as many stars as on stud's tights

  • Randy Orton must have studied this match

  • LOL

  • I'm surprised the Philly fans stayed that quiet.

  • Perhaps Andre was drunk

  • If wrestling is scripted even back then, who scripted this match?!

  • Obviously wretling was not a shoot back then lmao, that has to be one of the most unintellgible comments ever. And matches are not scripted. Besides one or two spots and the finish, it is largely just "working" and calling spots.

  • yeah. there's no "script" to a wrestling match. The in-ring action is improvised by the wrestlers. During the match they give each other verbal updates about what move to do next. And the ref or time keeper gives them cues for spots and finish, etc.

  • yeah, this was the downside to old school wrestling, they would do stuff like this with headlocks, armlocks, frontfacelocks etc.

  • I remember watching this match on prism. Even as a small kid, I recognized this was boring. They did the exact same thing in their madison square garden match. Please post more Spectrum wrestling.
