What it really comes down to is: manual cars are only as fast as they say if Tony Schamcher is in them. Admittedly, my porsche is DPK, so I really do go 0-60 in 4.7 every time. I paid 80k for my porsche fully loaded. And I think I'll be moving up to a Maserati turismo in a few years... You are correct, I prefer my cars to look cool more than actual speed.
