Ok, we all know the olympics is not ever going to happen for Katie but at least give her some credit. This was actually her first ever show, how would you feel if a dozen photographers and people were filming you doing your first ever show, knowing your pictures were going to be splashed all over the newspapers and videos on youtube to be slagged off by the public? I admire her for carrying on regardless, knowing she could improve and taking lessons after.
i don't think she can be faulted for being a beginner. Your first competition is always scary and when you're high profile like that it must ten-fold. HOWever I do think that horse was a little much for her, didn't seem to take her too seriously. Its not like she doesn't have potential, I just would take off the spurs until she has a quieter leg.
no stirrups, no reins.. lots of lunge line work is all i can recommend. i'd love to see what that horse could do with the proper rider. all i can say is my gelding would not be as forgiving.
This horse is incredibly tolerant and she is lucky to have her because a less tolerant horse would have chucked this girl by now... The way she's see-sawing on the bit and can't keep her seat. I understand and respect the fact that we all have to begin somewhere; however, this girl is lucky to have this particular horse and she should consider taking some lessons. Okay, loads of lessons. It's the only way to get better. But we all started like that!

When she canters it looks like she tries to keep herself on with the reins and she just generally fiddles around with the reins a lot. She looks down to check her diagonal and doesn't look where she wants to go before she turns. That horse is so gorgeous and she looks a mess on him/her.

@xxtasha10xx it doesnt matter if it has been her dream, dressage is something that you have to work at day in and day out to achieve. i may not have such a beautiful horse as this one but at least i dont yank it in the mouth when i ride it, and at least i am able to trot on the correct diagonal. the whole point of doing dressage tests is to be critiqued, and sometimes you get negative comments.. she deserves every one she gets imho.

She has a trainer and she learns by her trainer, so maybe her trainer is doing wrong but i don't know.

I cant ride my horses every day either, i attend school 5 days a week and i am a member of the australian army cadets. In fact i wasnt able to ride for 5 months last year because i broke my back in a horse riding accident, but even with all that time off i dont yank my horse in its mouth. its not about slagging someone off, there is a right way and a wrong way to do dressage and the only way you can learn correctly is to start at the bottom. you cant take shortcuts, it takes time

Yes, that might be true, but the german 'pro' riders I know, are different. I agree that everybody needs help to become a good rider, BUT I would never dare to enter a competition, if I cant even ride my horse with right contact. she just hold the reins, and prickel with the spurs. I think she should practise a lot more, before she 'presents' herself in public like 'look, I can ride !'

Far worse things happen to horses than being trained for dressage. Rugging and booting is normal practice even among us common horse people and mild sedation is the least of the evils horses are subjected to at the hands of man

She may not be the best rider in the world but we were all like this once - she's only just starting out competitively. This is what she loves and she should be allowed to get on with it in peace :)
snobby horsey people are the worst...every1 has a right to do what they enjoy. she can afford it, she obv enjoys it it must get very depressing being the type of person that only watches videos to slag them off. so much negative energy being put into those comments....actually quite funny. And not every1 can rely on mummy n daddy to pay for riding lessons or owning a horse. get realistic n stop bein so naive!
well tbh i think she did aright shes not the best rider ok but i bet shes got futher than you lot in shows so you can talk! yeh maybe her hands was all over the place and maybe sshe wasent on the right diagnol and her bending wasent good but the people wouldent put her on that horse if they think she couldent handle it. it might just be one of those days to leave it out ok!
I tell you what, that must have been so difficult for her with a TV crew watching her aswell, i mean no, she isnt amazing but I have seen worse at some shows. I would be so nervous! Then again if this is her very first dressage test at least she didnt forget where she was going!

she needs to get rid of the spurs if shes doing prelim, and ride that horse forward from her leg and up into her hand. her hands need to be still. can understand this is a big mare but and the tension of the show may of got to katie, just needed to do above and relax. shame though, as this mare should be out there with a rider competiting at its own level - psg not prelim

did anyone notice after her "display" at hoys the horse was hoping lame walking back into the warm up arena, doesnt take an idiot to feel that when its that severe. she also claimed she was nervous bout warming up in the warm up arena with other people pasing left shoulder to left shoulder as she has never ridden with other people in the arena, hasnt she been riding since she was a kid? shes has seriously ticked off some of the elite riders who ahve earned their place in the olympics x

no stirrups, no reins.. lots of lunge line work is all i can recommend. i'd love to see what that horse could do with the proper rider. all i can say is my gelding would not be as forgiving.

This horse is incredibly tolerant and she is lucky to have her because a less tolerant horse would have chucked this girl by now... The way she's see-sawing on the bit and can't keep her seat. I understand and respect the fact that we all have to begin somewhere; however, this girl is lucky to have this particular horse and she should consider taking some lessons. Okay, loads of lessons. It's the only way to get better. But we all started like that!

When she canters it looks like she tries to keep herself on with the reins and she just generally fiddles around with the reins a lot. She looks down to check her diagonal and doesn't look where she wants to go before she turns. That horse is so gorgeous and she looks a mess on him/her.

Oh dear! I am speechless. She may be rich and famous but she sure cant ride a horse very well! The hands are all over the place and it looks like she is almost forcing the collection through her hands which is not the correct way to collect a horse.

Erm, we muck our horses out, fill haynets and spend time with them eg brush them, ride them EVERYDAY and go to shows to show off their potential...does she do any of that? don't get me wrong, i do like katie, but just annoys me that she can go to her yard adn get on the horse and then fuck off home. she says shes a role model for all horsey people, no she isn't shes just promoting fuck all. @xxtasha10xx it doesnt matter if it has been her dream, dressage is something that you have to work at day in and day out to achieve. i may not have such a beautiful horse as this one but at least i dont yank it in the mouth when i ride it, and at least i am able to trot on the correct diagonal. the whole point of doing dressage tests is to be critiqued, and sometimes you get negative comments.. she deserves every one she gets imho.

@epona202 Look i'm not gonna argue with u on this one because i haven't been horse riding for years and i always found dressage boring so i can't comment back on that.
but what i do know is that she hasn't go the time to ride her horse everyday.
She has a trainer and she learns by her trainer, so maybe her trainer is doing wrong but i don't know.
I'm just not gonna slag her off and i'm not even a fan of hers.

I cant ride my horses every day either, i attend school 5 days a week and i am a member of the australian army cadets. In fact i wasnt able to ride for 5 months last year because i broke my back in a horse riding accident, but even with all that time off i dont yank my horse in its mouth. its not about slagging someone off, there is a right way and a wrong way to do dressage and the only way you can learn correctly is to start at the bottom. you cant take shortcuts, it takes time

@xxtasha10xx Youve obviously never been through physical pain such as a broken spine then, otherwise youd have a tiny bit of sympathy XD What you dont seem to be able to fathom is that dressage is a sport where you get critiqued. Some days judges will give you horrible comments, and some days you get awesome comments, it is essentially a sport of being judged! She knew this when she got into the sport so she can take it. Plenty of top dressage riders are business women and mothers too, they cope

worse than most of the beginners I know. It`s not because of her (in person) but because of using riding for prestige or what ever that absurdity is about... I guess she never became dirty, beeing pulled through mud by a nervous horse... she is a barbie who rides. thats okay, but to my mind she is neither equestrian nor horseman.

cry because their mount dared to buck slightly then refuse to ride untill horse has been worked for another hour by the grooms,horse mastership comes from lots of phases
of help,noone is successfull without help from others,iam in no doubt she is potentally a very goodrider and unlike some pro riders i would let her ride my horses happily

Yes, that might be true, but the german 'pro' riders I know, are different. I agree that everybody needs help to become a good rider, BUT I would never dare to enter a competition, if I cant even ride my horse with right contact. she just hold the reins, and prickel with the spurs. I think she should practise a lot more, before she 'presents' herself in public like 'look, I can ride !'

@SuperPrincessbambi: If they didn't want to please their rider, then they wouldn't do it. Simple as. Riders know that and respect that. Treat a horse badly and he will perform badly because he will loose respect for you. No one can make a horse do anything. The horse has to want to do it for you.
I didn't say her horse wishes for a different rider, I said he could be really very good with an established successful dressage rider.

@444malefic i know riders that are so called pros,and very few can actually ride they do take the horses for granted and the horses only ever go out covered in rugs,boots and sometimes even mildley doped so they dont get over excited when put out IF THEYRE LUCKY! Dont judge how happy horses are by one persons success,as most of the time its the grooms on the big yards who sorts out daily exercise andget bucks out of horses before the sponsored rider climbs on board ,so whos the pro?

@SuperPrincessbambi I don't think you should judge all professional riders by the 'so-called's you know. I'm sure some people do treat them like machines. Many people treat them a whole lot worse than machines. Yes, grooms are invaluable but any horse can say no, but they choose not to.
Anyway, this started about Katie Price. I don't care about what other people think about pro riders, but she isn't one!

A title of succuss is not always the truth....well I bet if I got on a highly trained dressage horse he would not work for me with out the instructions of an equally good instructor, a horse can only perform to his best if his rider is as good as him. I dont really care what Katie Price does with her horses, is she wants to do dressage, she will do dressage and my world will stay as it is.
Far worse things happen to horses than being trained for dressage. Rugging and booting is normal practice even among us common horse people and mild sedation is the least of the evils horses are subjected to at the hands of man

I tell you what, that must have been so difficult for her with a TV crew watching her aswell, i mean no, she isnt amazing but I have seen worse at some shows. I would be so nervous! Then again if this is her very first dressage test at least she didnt forget where she was going!
In conclusion: No she isnt very good but everybody starts somewhere :)

she needs to get rid of the spurs if shes doing prelim, and ride that horse forward from her leg and up into her hand. her hands need to be still. can understand this is a big mare but and the tension of the show may of got to katie, just needed to do above and relax. shame though, as this mare should be out there with a rider competiting at its own level - psg not prelim

Ohh dear god. HOw does she have the guts to go out there and ride like that. What made the prodcers think she would get any sort of poitive reaction to that display of cruelty, apart from a handful of 10 year old girls who have mistakenly aspired to be like her. Its digusting, it is cruelty there is no other word for it. I have been competing BD for 7 years now, and if they wanted a demo rider, they should have used Carl Hester or Laura Bechtolsheimer!

did anyone notice after her "display" at hoys the horse was hoping lame walking back into the warm up arena, doesnt take an idiot to feel that when its that severe. she also claimed she was nervous bout warming up in the warm up arena with other people pasing left shoulder to left shoulder as she has never ridden with other people in the arena, hasnt she been riding since she was a kid? shes has seriously ticked off some of the elite riders who ahve earned their place in the olympics x

@KateRSmith shes being slagged because she claims to have ridden for a long time and boasts about going to the olympics, yet she rides horses like girrafes!! this lovely mare isn't on the bit or flowing, she looks stiff in her back and holds her tail out whilst swishing it - a clear signal that she is tense! the "walk" was terrible and katie herself got tense and then pulled back on the reins when the mare started jogging,and her tail whipped up violently. terrible riding!

I don't like to slate people's riding but she claims she is going to the olympics and that's annoying when I know riders who are up at the crack of dawn schooling, mucking out and struggling to get noticed. Her walk at a free rein would have scored 2 if I had been judging as it just didn't happen. Katie, stop saying you're going to the olympics and just concentrate on small goals first.
