It's hairy bittercress (Cardamine hirsuta L.) It is readily controlled by post-emergent selective broadleaf herbicides that contain one or more of the following: Dicamba, 2,4-D, Triclopyr, Mecoprop or MCPA. You should be able to find such products at your local garden store or nursery or any Lesco or John Deere outlet. Follow all label directions. Good luck!
You bastard. I envy you for your somewhat high-speed camera. My camera records at a crude 25 frames per second. When I recorded some bittercress near my yard, the popping took one, maybe two frames.
One tip though: wait until the pods dry out. They burst more spectacularly then at the slightest touch, and seeds don't get left behind much.
But duh, you probably know that.
I'm just ticked off right now that frickin aphids are killing the bittercress I'm trying to grow indoors. :-(
These are bittercress or pop weed. They are edible too. I just took a class on these over the weekend. Do your research before eating though if that's what you want to do.
Pretty sure they're a bittercress. I wanted to make a video of them in my yard, but I think yours turned out much better than anything I could do with my camera. Very nice!
@jwm77822 No idea, let me know if you ever find out though. When I first came across them I thought it was scores of tiny bugs leaping out of the grass as I disturbed it until I looked closer. Pretty nutty.

Do you know what type of weeds these are?? I have these all over my yard and I want to get rid of them, they are annoying. Great stuff though.
