I take my hat off, and take a bow. This shows what you can do with a monotron. (It also shows it's impossible to be pitch perfect with a ribbon synth, but hey, who cares, it's lots of fun!)
But really, I remain confident that it is NOT impossible to be pitch perfect with a ribbon synth. It's not impossible to be pitch perfect with a cello either, though my videos with that instrument may suggest otherwise.
Any one have a nintendo DS or DSI? ds10 plus is cheaper than the monotron and is 12 total sound wit pattern and song sequencer plus 4 miniKp and 2 seperate fx chains.....Awsome creativity but unless you got a small army your not playing that peice live with a monotron. Great work!
Well I never intended to play this piece live, wrote it exclusively for this YouTube video. I wouldn't use digital stuff like the DS live either, because I dislike performing "live" using any kind of static loops or prerecorded material and I doubt those digital tools would work really well as plain directly-played synths - much unlike the monotron, which I'm now also planning to use in my band rather extensively (in combination with specialized effects).
@leftaroundabout Actually the Ds10 plus plays much like the monotron and even better in my opinion. but if you were to take Ds10 plus, monotron, and mini Kp you would have yourself a nice little micro music set up good for live and studio.
and since the software was made by Korg plugging it into an amp or studio speakers you would not be able to tell the ms 20 isnt there. check out the vids for it. I had my doubts to and I got 1000$ synths and this thing is just as cool....
Does anybody else share Koepfli48's opinion that the monotron sounds like bagpipes? If yes, do you think so in a positive or negative sense?
but this alone doesn't even remotely resemble a hi-hat, it's just the basis for the FX chain that forms the final sound. I might explain it in detail in an extra video.
(Can't do it during the next weeks though, too much important stuff for university right now. But, anyone who's interested, just tell me so or simply subscribe!)

Let me rephrase that: it's bloody difficult to be pitch perfect with a ribbon synth - especially one this size.
Playing theremin is easier... well, that's what I think anyway.

Oh, man, this is amazing. I'd like to know, what knob settings did you use to make the high hats?
Longuncattr 1 year ago
@Longuncattr The basic setting is
mod cutoff, pitch 5:00, rate 2:30, int. 3:00, cutoff 4:00, peak 5:00
but this alone doesn't even remotely resemble a hi-hat, it's just the basis for the FX chain that forms the final sound. I might explain it in detail in an extra video.
