@TheEbonyLounge It's hard to say whether he was guilty of any crime as I don't have the facts to judge with. I do know that the very power and resonance of his voice was a threat in modern society and I can think of one artist in America who was targeted similarly. Tupac Shakur was brought up on fake sex charges and imprisoned not long before his death.
Stan Campbell gave us a timeless masterpiece. I had this album on cassette tape for many, if not all, of my college years at Berkeley. I always felt that he didn't get enough pub in the states precisely because he was a young, talented, foreign black man singing songs like Strange Fruit that resonated with your soul. I've always wished for a follow up to one of the greatest soul albums of all time. It's sad what's happened to him and his victim, but for a moment, he transcended music itself..
this guy is completely forgotten now but still one of my favorite singers of all time. and the art of writing a good, simple song vanished too. the 80's were good times.
Stan Campbell, my favourite album, How heartbreaking for such a talented young man - I wish I could visit him wherever he is. Such pain & sorrow for one so gifted & handsome
The set they're playing on looks alot like that in the vid for "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley (the Rick roll song). But I like the song and the vid!
Oh My God.... I used to love this song. This is why I love YouTube. Is there anything you cannot find on here??? Takes me back to being 18 all over again. Thanks for posting, it really made my day.
Some of the best burn bright just once. This song and his cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" (Animals original) will always be what I think about when you say Stan Campbell.
I read this about Stan on the web - can it be true? this album is still one of my favourites...
With only one solo album to his credit, he is still best known for his vocals on The Special AKA's "Free Nelson Mandela". Tragically, in 2002 Campbell was found guilty of kidnapping and sexual assault on some underage girls and was committed indefinitely to a psychiatric hospital. 1987.
i hear he's fine ,will pass on if i get in touch

Many folks compare him to Terrence Trent D'arby but Stan has one of the purest voices ever.....

The bloke had a really unique look and vocal style. Really sad to hear about his eventual decline.
