A year later, and this Favorite of mine still amazes: The attention to detail (left-hand accents at 4:35, interior accents at 5:36, and a hundred other nuances) and power. I have a dozen recordings of this same concerto, and wish only that Ulugbek would record this in a proper studio setting, and play it the exact same way
I just re-heard Georgi Cherkin play this on YouTube -- He's superb, yet I still prefer Ulugbek Wild & Krazy Guy! When can we hear his Rach Op 23 & 32 preludes, some Chopin and Scriabin, and the great Bach-Busoni transcriptions? Let's get moving already! BRAVO
OK, now, to keep up The Buzz, How about some Rach preludes and vocalise (Alan Richardson arrangement), and Brahms intermezzi. Sorry to disturb your summer in Uppsala!
My dear Rosso953, may I respectfully suggest that YOU, sir, are Nothing Special, bearing in mind that I certainly harbout no ill-will toward the deaf.
Also, good mike placement favored the piano and its excitement. In poor Kissin's performance, the piano was DE-EMPHASIZED, marginalizing an otherwise superb contender.
HE'S GOT IT!!! Finally, a performance to rival Weissenberg's and Richter's! He got the grace-note just right (at the beginning, like Kissin's), and and BIG LEFT PINKY ACTION wherever needed. Where did THIS guy come from? Superb. I'd buy ANY CD of his.
this is the best performance on youtube
