Seems you forgot about the GMC Syclone produced in the early '90s. It STILL holds the title of fastest production sport truck to this day and yes...will outrun a Lightning and overweight SRT10. Watch the YouTube videos of it if you don't believe me. I recently bought a super-clean, '97 Ranger with a 4.0 and only 116,000 miles. Just a great running dependable truck. I'm considering a V8 conversion in a couple of years though.

@fordfnatx Hey shitnipples, the factory tach was calibrated for a 4 or 6 cylinder. You know, the ones that fire 4 or 6 times per revolution. So a v8 firing.....anybody.....anybody....yes 8 times per revolution will give that poor tach a false reading, therefore showing more revolutions per minute.
@heydudetyler1 It's probably still the 8.8 with some good parts in it. The 8.8 is an incredibly good rear - if you build them right, they will handle quite a few HP....

First, there never was a "Police interceptor" version of an MN12 T-Bird, second the tach is way off because it used to have a 4 or 6 cylinder in it and the V8 uses a different tach signal, which reads higher on the tach! Overall nice looking swap though!
funny thing what a 6cyl tack looks like on an 8 cyl. hook up an aftermarket and you will see very different results. but YOU already know that. nice truck though. cudos.

@dsmith34057 dude go with trickflow twisted wedge heads, a single plane intake and a carb with around 670 cfm. with a good cam and your stock bottom end this is close to 400 horse.

Both the tach and the speedo are off. The stock tires are probably a great deal taller, and the tach is for a v6. You might try hunting down an explorer cluster to get the right tach readout.I would guess you were only doing 80-90 when it hit 120.

So he is doing 7500rpm? It goes awful far past the 6000 which is as far as the stock Ranger tach goes. I also own 2 trucks with a 5.0 and it doesn't sound like he is doing that kind of RPM, maybe 5500 at the max (which would just about blow my two trucks apart). If it's real then great! badass truck.

That's a sweet looking ranger there & I love that big Edlebrock 5.0 intake in there. Perfect color also. The only thing I would change is the position of the Flowmaster and put on some Flowmaster tips. Other then that things hauls ass & I love that ranger.
I would almost guarantee your tachometer is wired wrong. For the newer rangers you have to swap one of the pins to make it read right. for that matter your speedo is probably off to with those tiny tires.

I also own 2 trucks with a 5.0 and it doesn't sound like he is doing that kind of RPM, maybe 5500 at the max (which would just about blow my two trucks apart). If it's real then great! badass truck.

yeah dude alot of people take the rear axle the engine and tranny and all the wiring from explorers for a swap into a ranger im doing it over the summer. its actually a easy swap visit therangerstationdotcom for more info

yeah thats the beauty of it. have a cop run that plate and see what he gets. bet it comes up as a 88 mustang or somethin. its just a plate we found and stuck on there. it doesnt even register to us.

i don't know why ford did'nt put the 5.0 in the ranger in the first place . nice swap! the ranger has always been under powered the 4.0 was ok for power but 5.0 is what the ranger needs nice work.

That's a sweet looking ranger there & I love that big Edlebrock 5.0 intake in there. Perfect color also. The only thing I would change is the position of the Flowmaster and put on some Flowmaster tips. Other then that things hauls ass & I love that ranger.

I would almost guarantee your tachometer is wired wrong. For the newer rangers you have to swap one of the pins to make it read right. for that matter your speedo is probably off to with those tiny tires.

tach is accurate, we checked it with aftermarket tach and the truck has a custom tuned chip on it that corrects for the change in gear ratio and tire size. also the speedo has been checked with gps

i have a 2005 ford ranger xlt 2 door only i wish i had gotten it with 4 doors.but the great thing is that i only have 21,000 some odd miles on it.i love it alot oh and it has a 3.0 engine but man i wish i had this v8 under my hood.

3.27 with drag radials. had 3.73 and it spun to much on hole shot and wound motor out too much on 1/4
