In Tobacco's defense though, I have read that some of the ill-effects that have been attributed to it are actually the cause of substances used in producing it, such as phosphate fertilizers. I'd like to read further in to the innate properties of the Tobacco plant itself.

congress has a moral responsibility to change the nation's laws regarding cannabis use for medical patients. thus, the federal goverment does not exceed it's authority under law when federal officers raid medical marijuana patients with california state prescriptions.

Guess he has never heard of the case of Jonathan Magbie. A quadriplegic since age 4 after getting hit by a drunk driver, he was arrested for a joint of marijuana. He told the judge it made him feel better yet she still sentenced him to a 10 day jail sentence. Without adequate care, he died serving that sentence. He was pictured with President Ronald Reagan in 1982 after the accident. Now he's dead because of this horrible law against marijuana users. They took this mans life, and for what, why?

Drugs can affect other people, of course. If someone gets drunk or high and starts to hassle another person then that's a matter for the police to sort out.
But if someone wants to smoke a joint, or inject heroin in the privacy of their own home, the Government should have no right to interfere in a personal matter such as this.
Just like with Alcohol, other drugs need to be legalized AND regulated. You don't simply legalize a substance without regulating it.

Cannabis has been used for hundreds, maybe thousands of years and there has never been a THC overdose, ever. Nicotine is one of the most toxic chemicals, lethal dose 40-60mg, about 2 grams of tobacco leaf. When it is burned most of the nicotine is consumed(3mg per cig or less), but carcinogens are produced.

Does it matter if some people are upset if the population as a whole flourishes? You can not rationally support the prohibition of cannabis. It's directly hypocritical of alcohol, which is far beyond any danger cannabis could cause in any form. Why is it that they can sell a smoke product that not only can cause an overdose, but accompanies addiction and an onslaught of deadly diseases? You simply can not say that it is immoral and should be illegal. That is not a rational argument.

And if you want an example from another country, take a look at the Netherlands. The data is out, the concentration of cannabis users there has declined dramatically since they abolished its prohibition, it is now very difficult for their youth to obtain it, and it is a product which has never killed anyone. Even when it comes to its psychoactive effects and driving, of course it is not responsible to do, however it is not to the degree of alcohol. Police never pull over someone driving stoned.

marijuana is a drug. it is not healthy for a normal person in anyway. anything u smoke is harmful. no one needs to be stoned or high. being intoxicated is not good for anyone. and the last thing we need is another mind altering drug to be legalized. why do u want it legal so bad. kids need to continue to be in a drug free zone. medical use for the terminally ill should be the only thing allowed as long as they do not do it in a public place. we need to increase the war on drugs!

I want it legal because it is hypocritical to have much more dangerous substances legal while this non-toxic, non-carcinogenic plant is not. Simply put, prohibition creates more problems than it solves. It supports organized crime (which unlike pot itself, actually does kill people) who don't care whether a kid is old enough to smoke or not.
You're really going to say it should be limited to the terminally ill? That shows how limited your comprehension of cannabis is.

As already stated, if the laws don't work and are diminishing to the country overall, why do they exist? Cannabis use will not go away just because you want it to; it is by definition, insane to pursue this drug war.
Stoned America? If cannabis were legalized, obviously you would not go out to buy and use it. It wouldn't change anyone's mind who does not already wish to use it. The Netherlands holds up just fine, in case you haven't noticed.

You really don't remember what happened with the prohibition of alcohol? The same exact thing is happening with cannabis, but it's exactly that attitude which prevents the madness from ending plain and simply. If you think it's rational to put 800,000 non-violent offenders in prison for simple possession, if you think it's worth the taxpayers' money, you've lost your mind.
Why maintain a war on drugs which will never be won? It's simply a waste of resources which could be turned over to benefit

Lastly, I love how you try to downplay the percentage of cannabis users in prison by stating the 300 million in jail and only 800,000 are cannabis possession offenders. Mind you, that's 800,000 every year. And to act as though those numbers are small is disgraceful. The US population is only 4.5% that of the global, and yet they have 25% of the world's prisoners.

With 800,000 cannabis users in jail every year, that must give you perspective of how many cannabis users there are that do not get caught. This prohibition is a drastic waste of resources, and just like the alcohol prohibition, more Americans face danger because of it.
Why does the government let these criminals regulate this multi-billion dollar crop? It is not rational policy, it simply can not be debated as you are illustrating.

Even the laws dictate these crimes are of different stature. You go to jail longer for murder, rape, or child abduction longer than you do for cannabis possession. I guess your pea sized brain doesn't understand that. Cannabis is harmful under prohibition as it's criminals, not the government regulating it.

congress has a moral responsibility to change the nation's laws regarding cannabis use for medical patients. thus, the federal goverment does not exceed it's authority under law when federal officers raid medical marijuana patients with california state prescriptions.

And just one more thing, I worked on a film about Medical Marijuana, and it's not that it relieves pain per se, but it makes you forget about the pain you have, and that's the point, duh! There is plenty of evidence out there, in fact it could even inhibit cancer cell growth, yet people are ignorant and prefer chemicals!!!! Go natural, cause the food we eat and the medicine we take is killing us.

That's just one example of thousands of similar cases. It makes me really upset and mad when they try to act like it never happens, like they don't arrest the sick and dying and their caregivers, when in reality it happens all the time. People are dying and lives are getting ruined every single day because of marijuana prohibition. It's just not right.

Guess he has never heard of the case of Jonathan Magbie. A quadriplegic since age 4 after getting hit by a drunk driver, he was arrested for a joint of marijuana. He told the judge it made him feel better yet she still sentenced him to a 10 day jail sentence. Without adequate care, he died serving that sentence. He was pictured with President Ronald Reagan in 1982 after the accident. Now he's dead because of this horrible law against marijuana users. They took this mans life, and for what, why?

Why should they suffer from some of the side effects of these drugs when they don't need to? You may call those narcotics listed up there reasonable choices, but I call it being selfish and controlling. You're basically telling people they can take drugs which are possible to overdose on or have nasty reactions to, but they can't smoke a harmless bud?

Drugs affect other people. I dont really care if someone wants to puff a bowl or whatever but when they do it around me, that bothers me.

Drugs can affect other people, of course. If someone gets drunk or high and starts to hassle another person then that's a matter for the police to sort out.
But if someone wants to smoke a joint, or inject heroin in the privacy of their own home, the Government should have no right to interfere in a personal matter such as this.
Just like with Alcohol, other drugs need to be legalized AND regulated. You don't simply legalize a substance without regulating it.
