Nice how she says the minimum cage size should be 2ft x 2ft, then says that this is a good size. That cage probably isn't even 18inches wide! WTF?! And really, you can't put more than 1 bird in a cage? Wouldn't that all depend on the individual bird? This "Expert" village is a joke.

Whoever thinks that sandpaper is good and cement is bad is WRONG. The sandpaper covers cause irreversible damage to birds' feet. They should be taken off the market. Cement is perfect and birds love it. She is exactly right.
lovebirds need a companion ! would be why they are called "love birds" my two are utterly in love and extremely happy , and even come out for a play with my indian ring neck !
@siineadxx that is not true at all... actually its better if you only have one then it will bond with you and not the other lovebird. Next time dont post false information
false information? its an opinion believe what u want bt lovebirds are called lovebirds 4 a reason. they find a mate and partner for life. my love birds are extremely happy with each other and they are more than happy to come out and play with me and other family members so you can have the "bond" as well as keeping the bird happy when your not around by having a companion. having one bird is not cruel if you spend enough time with it . i just believe that these sweet babies should be a pair
WTF ?!!!!!! Der arme Vogel inj DEUTSCHLAND ist das Tierqual !!! Diese Vögel LOVEbirds immer zu 2. mindestens 120cm breiter käfig ohhh nein die amerikaner was tuen sie den Vögeln an....
No shes right. unlike cockatilels and budgies lovebirds r aggresive. Having 2 is fine if ur not gonna have time to play w/ one or if uwanna breed them but if u want a luving one that like u get one. I have had lovebirds of pairs and even though they like each other they quablle and at times attack each other. This is normal for a lovebird since they r fiesty and thier name lovebird derives b/c in the wild they are always preening one another liek in luv but really they just help each other out.
Wait if they shudnt be housed to geder than why are they called lovebirds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and in fact no love bird scratch that no bird should be hhoused alone. i have four love birds in a nice good sized cage and they are very happy!!!
dude im saying its always nice to have a companion or mate and i do have four but i most prob will put two in dif cage soon, to be more exact when one of the pair lays eggs
what the fuck are you talking about? i have 3 lovebirds (siblings) in a big cage and they live happily together. when they sleep they are huddled up together in each others warmth. my birds love all the toys they have, it means they dont get bored, and they can goto a different toy if they do.
They r siblings thats why but wait till they become adults. If u have 3 i hope they r all male cause 2 females and u might have a problem. they r aggressve lil guys lol.
Once again, "Idiot Village" has given false or partial information. I hope people are not using them as a source of information. There will be a lot of pets not being cared for properly, if they do listen to their advice.
This video is so stupid. First off you can keep 2 or more lovebirds in a cage that is big enough for them. It is true that lovebirds might start to bicker or kill eachother but that's usually caused by the size of the cage. Cement perches are not good and sand perches aren't that good either. I suggest wood perches and rope perches are the best way to go.
Well it isnt good to have more then one love bird if you want it bonded to you, and some birds will not bond together either, def something you have to be careful about.
No, no, no. There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping more than one lovebird in the same cage, provided that the cage is big enough. The rule of thumb is that each bird should be able to expand its wings side by side and not touch each other. Concrete perches are not that bad, although, I prefer roped perches. Sand paper perches, if the cheap ones are purchased, will create dust which can cause respritory infections.
Never keep lovebirds alone, they are social parrots that need a self-chosen partner! They live in huge flocks in africa, never alone.
Minimum cage size is 1metre by one metre by 80 cm.
They need natural branches as perches, not cement or sandpaper, and ossa sepia for the beak,as well as sand and grit.Throw out all plastic toys, and neverput a mirror in the cage! Give them as much natural surroundig as possible..
i too disagree with some things in this video, but i disagree even more with ur ridiculous statement that lovebirds should never be left alone! many, many people keep happy, sociable lovebirds as single pets and as long as they have enough time and devotion for them, this is a great way for them to have a great bond with their birds. and plastic toys provide great mind stimulus and entertainment for birds. i can't believe you actually said that!
@chrysoberyll by self chosen, you mean, take your single bird around to all pet stores/breeders until they find the one they like? hee.
also, it's been shown that grit isn't that great for lovebirds because they hull their food. grit can get impacted in their crops. that stuff is best left to finches and canaries.
and plastic toys are my bird's favorites. she especially loves her plastic climbing gyms.
what ever! paired birds can live in the same cage, even birds from the same hatching live in the same cage sometimes. where i'm getting my new bird from, they have three lovebirds a cage and they're fine! i don't really think this lady knows what she's talking about
she's just tellin u the basic care of owin 1 bird. Its best to keep any bird by itself as a pet so it bonds wit u and not wit another as it becomes bonded wit that bird.
Can you clarify why you said house birds seprate? I'm confused on that being that love bird if paired correctly can live together, if trying to put one in with two I understand the harm there, please clarify
This whole thing about having only 1 bird per cage is not true. What you should do is take the new bird and put it in a smaller cage right next to the bigger cage w/ the original bird. The birds should get to know each other without enough phisical contact to harm eachother. After a couple of days, put the younger bird in the bigger cage w/ the other bird.
the idea of indroducin 1 bird to another I my case is to have those 2 birds as a breedin pair.people have this crazy idea that 2 lovebirds are meant to be together which is not true unless ur tryin to have them breed.havin 1 bird is the best or when u pair them up at some point they will start matin which is another story.
Bedding such as corn cob and especially cedar can contain oils that disrupt the nasal passages. We recommend clean, white paper towels. Even the ink from newspaper can stain your bird's feathers. Corn cob can also harvest bacteria.
What! you can put 2 lovebirds in one cage. I've got 2 different species of lovebirds in the same cage right now. Your even suppose to have a pair of lovebirds instead of one.And you don't use concrete or cement perches you use the sand covered ones.
You can only have 2 lovebirds in one cage if they are siblings and have been raised from birth. Lovebirds are very territorial and may kill the other if they are not related and have not been raised from birth. The sand perches do scratch up the feet of any small or medium sized bird. I think your lovebirds are neglected. You should read up on lovebird care before you make another bad choice on behalf of your pet lovebirds.
I actually think you need to 'read up' on lovebird care before making such hidious remarks!
Of course you can keep two birds together! Naturally not every pair will get along, but most lovebirds will adore sharing their cage with a partner.
My birds come from two different breeders and are 6 months apart in age. They were both parent raised and both get along fine. What ever made you think only related and 'raised from birth' birds can be together?
i never said you couldn't keep two birds together. Where did I say that? I never said you couldn't. Besides, do you know the definition of the word "may"? may: used to express possibility: It may rain. They MAY kill the other because lovebirds are territorial.I meant "related OR raised from birth" does that make a difference? sorta.either get related ones OR birth raised.yours were both raised from birth. okay? okay. done? done.
EVERY bird is raised from birth? Either by parents or hand-fed by the owner. What exactly do you define as 'raised from birth'? Indeed your comment may not have sounded so stupid had you of constructed it correctly. Of course I know what 'may' means. No need to get arsey with me because you don't know how to string a sentence together! :O Oh by the way, related birds can still kill each other ;)
This whole thing about having only 1 bird per cage is not true. What you should do is take the new bird and put it in a smaller cage right next to the bigger cage w/ the original bird. related birds can kill eachother. that's why you shouldn't put 2 new birds in a cage together. keep them separate for a while. or else they may kill eachother.
I have been breedin lovebirds for 3 yrs now an to my xperience an from other breeders its best to get 1 lovebir or any bird if u plan to have that bird as a pet.I have had my birds from the same clutch get long only because they are females an have been together for so long but its not a good idea.jus because their name is "lovebirds" they will kill each other.
You can house two birds together if it is a bonded pair and a large enough cage. We have two pairs of birds and they have been together for 6 years. It is true that if you want two birds and you want them to be bonded to you, you need to house them in separate cages. But even if you have two birds in the same cage, you can, with a little work, keep them tame to you. For bedding, corn cob cannot be used (I'm not sure that this is what is being used, but FYI).

cement perches are bad because they will take the mositure out of the birds nails. use sandy perches like sand particles on the perch

OK, lets get some things straight here...
The problem here is that there are two conflicting issues:
Do you keep an animal to make a human happy,or make a bird happy and enjoy watching that?
It seems that the first statement is true in the US and the second in Europe. `nuff said.
chrysoberyll 3 years ago
i do disagree with the size of the cage, though, its way too small. and that poor little bird looks bored!
alittlebirdysaid 3 years ago
I agree, that def isnt a good size cage for the bird, unless of course, its a sleep cage, meaning it goes in for bed, and as 100% out of cage time.
And the toys, def not enough, They need something to climb on, the love hamster wheels, they need forage toys, and preening toys, and things to shred.
Poor lil thing ;(
