  • Love that noise!

Can anybody tell me whether or not this beast can fly on less than 4 engines???

  • @hearts76100 they could fly on only one enige but that was really hard to do but it was possible

  • my dad rode in one of these at the Flight Museum in Galveston, TX

  • World War II radial engines firing up! How sweet the sound and what a beautiful bird is the magnificent B-17 Flying Fortress.

  • This is the Yankee Lady, 1 of 13 flyable today. Its home is Belleville Michigan at Willow run airport. They offer rides and ive been in it. its truely a blast, come see it!!!

  • Beautifull.

  • i saw that plane flying near buffalo not long ago, one day i am gonna offer myself a ride on board

  • There was a B17 that came close to where I live a couple years ago but tickets to ride were over $400, worth it but I did have it at the time UGGG

  • Oh and if i was a billionaire, i would have every WW2 plane restored and flying!

  • That plane is so fucking beautiful!!!!!!!

  • good god global warming much?

but no in all reality awsome bomer

  • i saw that plane flying overhead in Columbus a number of years back.

  • I THINK THAT IT is on display in Memphis.

  • Epic, this is what America can do, quality, strength, power, good looking!

  • To clear a few things up. The Memphis belle is in fact, in Dayton Ohio for restoration. As far as parts missing, it was well before the restoration began. They were taken back in the 60's. Once word got out, that it was going to be restored back to flyable condition, the then "thief" turned in an entire milk crate of parts including some of the avionics. The belle is being restored, using virtually all of it's own parts. Most are restored using multiple planes.

  • Memphis Belle is in Memphis TN... The pilot just died last year... as I remember. 41Ragan.

  • lovely sound...

  • All I know is.... the original seats for the pilots had a depression in em for their big nads so they wouldnt sit on while making runs...........Bombs away.............

  • My friend, Glenn, flew that EXACT B-17!

  • feather the props on engine1 !!

  • They that's the aluminum overcast!

  • Sound of freedom!!!

  • Gimme I wanna fly

  • Beautiful Start up and Clear Sound Excellent vid

  • Thats got to be the best sounding radial enginge there is

  • does anyone know if the memphis Belle is still in existence?

  • it is in a museum in Ohio

  • The Memphis is being restored in Dayton,Ohio I think it will be a long time before they have it ready for display

  • @shreader327 It is in Ohio...sadly the crew is not.. Tip o' the hat to all the brave men that flew these beasts...

  • @shreader327

The real Memphis Belle is being restored in the national USAF museum in Dayton, Ohio. There is another one painted in the same markings that is still flying.

  • @sprinkles2002007 The Memphis Belle should be returned to its true home, Memphis, TN

  • @shreader327 It is, i saw it at Duxford, was at maintaince tho.

  • @shreader327 I think shes in the smithsosaion

  • @shreader327 Yes--it's been moved to the Air Force museum in Ohio. I was a volunteer helping restore the Memphis Belle back in 2005, but the Air Force bureaucrats took it away from us and took it to Ohio.

  • @sekiryu It was removed from Memphis because it was not being properly cared for there. It is now getting the proper restoration it deserves. One of the problems faced by the National Museum of the USAF is all the parts that went missing while being "restored" in Memphis. Sorry, but the Belle is much, much better off in Ohio.

  • @BolexH8 Not properly cared for my ass. I don't recall any parts going "missing".

  • Comment removed

  • @shreader327

Yes, shes on static display but I can't remember where.

  • @shreader327

yes it is. the real memphis belle will never be flown again, but there is a b17 painted like memphis belle that is flown regurally. she is based at geneseo, ny. i vist her often

  • @shreader327 yup. currently under restoration at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.

  • @shreader327 apparently yes

  • @shreader327 the last i heard/read she is at the United States Air Force History Museum in Dayton, Ohio undergoing restoration. Awesome museum, if you haven't been there I recommend taking a visit if you have the opportunity. And the movie made about the plane is my all time favorite movie. Ever.

  • @shreader327 Yes, i it's in a museum and was been restored if i'm not mistaken.

  • @shreader327 It is. I took my picture next to it in June of this year. Andrews Air Force Base. They must have moved it from a museum or something if it was legit, I think it was.

  • @shreader327 The aircraft is undergoing extensive restoration at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. Thank god for wikipedia;]

  • @shreader327 yep it is being restored at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio

  • @shreader327

Yes, it was brought back from England during the war for the Bond drive, and is presently in Memphis TN as a memorial. You can go actually go through it, or at least you could back in 1994.

  • The B17, the DC-3 and the Bell 47 are undoubtely the most beautiful "air things" created by man

  • A sound never to get tired of!

  • for one whole week in late july this aircraft is the most beautifull alarm clock ever. never fails 9o clock in the morning the whole week of eaa giving rides out of the near by airport

  • An American icon of strength!

  • Thanks........

  • to anyone who says German, i feel it is my right to correct them with the word nazis, a lot of people have biased opinions on the Germans sice WWII

  • guitarsnowmobiler - and I feel it's my right to call anyone making poor, stereotype statements like you did "IDIOT"! You haven't learned nothing...

  • i realize your point, fair enough but even beside this point, some people still(in North A.) have those opinions that you are a nazi just because you are german

  • "Some people in North A." or just you?! Everything that had to be said has been said...

  • ok ok....... i take back whatever i said that offended or sounded wrong

  • @Jourdain1965 how is my comment stereotype?

  • what a beautiful sound............I think i need new speakers now...lol

  • amazing the b-17 is beast

  • its always awsome to see yankey lady roaring to life i love this old bird

  • and this Bombers attack my country wow

but many of them was found here in the ground in germany.

  • Good to know that they did attack your country; my grandparents and parents were delighted to see their vapour trails in the sky over their Dutch village, knowing that they were on their way to kick some German ass!!! By the way; loads of German planes in the ground in Holland, too...

  • tres bien fimé..........

  • What an awesome sight. An old girl roaring to life. Awesome.

  • there are only 13 left right

  • I understand the inboard engines power the steering on the B-17---might be why an inboard engine is started first.

  • I believe they start #3 first, has generator i think. Anyone?? What a beautiful sound, volume to max.....

  • Engine 3 powers the primary generator and all main systems on the B-17. When it's started everything comes online. That's why the other engines are usually quicker to start

  • AH!!!! The sound of 4800hp. 4x1200hp

  • Was this video filmed at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI?

  • Way too cool -- Thanks for sharing

  • just went up in 909 to honor my grandfather today what an experience!!!!!!!!

  • these vets who flew the b17 would be proud to see this

  • there is nothing like the sound of those old birds coming to life

  • What a sound!!! first engine start ..its like a drunk on a saturday nite in an alley falling over 25 empty trash cans

    BEWDIFUL!!!

  • the B-17 is awesome, i love this plane :)

  • 2-1-3-4 startup

  • Starting those plans is always such a presentation, I love it! Any idea why they usually or always do this order???

I love the smoke right before you can hear it come to life.

  • well, I'm pretty much an expert on this stuff, but I don't know that. Maybee you could take a look at some internet sites that deal with that stuff. That's where I get my info.

  • just too beautifull!

  • i love how those radials smoke and sputter when they are first started, once they are running they are smooth as silk. so much character, don't forget the 1200 hp a piece. i flew in a b17 once it was a wonderful experience.

  • Man what a funk...

  • love that sound...

  • I LOVE THAT AIRPLANE! With all my heart.

  • i got to fly on it 2weeks ago...the best flight i ever had
