AS a kid back in the 80's my best friend had an Orange Krate. I was more into the Mongoose BMX bikes but we used to occasionally swap bikes for up to a week at a time. I loved riding the Krate as well. When these bikes were well maintained, they were pretty fast bikes.
Right These bikes were great on the street but Most of the kids I grew up with in the 60s in So Cal, were into off road and the Apple was just not made for that.
Sears and Huffy were the first to put out a more BMX style bike that hit the stores back then. I did have a used apple for a few weeks then traded it.
@stangman18 this was the first year for the krates. they didn't have the disk breaks until 70' i think, or soon after that. the front brake is a drum.
When I was young, that bike was the holy grail of all bicycles, the "end-all-be-all" of human existance. I never got lucky enough to get my hands on one, but in my youth, that thing was truly my Ultimate "Dream Machine"!
Mine was just like it, but I had the headlamp and taillamps that ran off the wheel. And the rear tire was a white raised letter "StingRay" slick tire.
