  • When you said 'focus on your breathe', what do you exactly mean? I heard it many times on many video, but I don't really understand. Some said to not think about the breathe at all, let it happen naturally while others seem to require us to concentrate on the breathing process.

Can you please explain a bit more? Thanks! :)

  • @kistajk : Focusing on breathe is a tool for expanding consciousness. One exercise to improve your awareness of the breath would be to lay down on your back and place your hands on your stomach. Breathe into your hands and feel them rise with an inhalation and fall with the exhalation. google 'Dirga Pranayama' for more info.

  • thank you, sarah palin. it was easy for me to follow your instruction since i actually look a lot like a monkey.......................ok and i smell like one too.

  • Ever have any hallucinations doing this stuff?

  • actually for most beginners these are bad ways to start meditation. Because the merdian channels are so out of balence the bent knees can cause further disbalences. Maybe if you have been practicing yoga and tia chi or have superior training about human potential... it is recommended that you begin a meditation in a chair with your legs almost straight, slightly bent like it was a high chair. just be carfeful... kundalini or chi can cause problems as well if accumulated incorecctly.

  • cool vid, it helped me.

    cute monkey, too :)

question: did you ever listen to music while meditating? if so, what sorts of music? tnx

  • thanks! yeah, in middle school we used to listen to music sometimes... but i forget what kinds. just relaxing kinds i think.

  • thanks!

  • Any relaxing music is good. Smooth jazz is a good example preferably without lyrics / singing. And, make sure you have music (songs) programmed to equal your meditation time (10-35 minutes), as not to be interrupted. Peace.

  • does it make a difference wheter you breathe from the stomach or the chest? Just as long as you breath through the nostrils right?

  • good!! very good!

  • This is a great video, thanks to people like you we have great videos on Youtube. By the way, there are other methods, I saw a video by a Tibetan Lama tsemtulku, who shares many self-improvement methods like in Tsem Rinpoche getting JEALOUS at Mac!!!!!!, which I find surprisingly modern and related to what you are sharing. Please post more self-help videos like these on Youtube.

  • you have to be in a good mood for meditation to work.. like in a positive.. your brain will send you negitive stuff if your in a negitive mood so be in a positive mood for meditation to work otherwise your wasting your time.. like seriously following the breath is hard when your in a bad mood trust me.. i still havent gotten yet but thats what i learned from 6 months because ive done it before(made my breath silent) but i had to be a little pussy and think i had it dont let it slip out your hand

  • meditation is an Excellent tool for many people when they are in a bad mood... it can help calm you down and put you in a calmer mood. meditation is all about being mindful... often times bad moods come from not being mindful (of course, sometimes they come from being mindful as well!) ...

  • if you find that meditation doesn't help you when you are in a bad mood... there is lots of other stuff that could probably relax you when you are in a bad mood. have you tried sports/working out? or watching tv or films? or talking to friends and family? there are lots of other ways to get out of a bad mood if meditation doesn't work for you... but meditation can be a very useful tool for some people! :)

  • Thanks very much..

Do you know where can i download a book or guide on meditation? I´ve looked all over the net but haven´t found a direct, easy, BS free guide..

BTW, you speak too fast! slow down! ;-)

    BTW , you´re a pretty girl ;-)

  • what? meditation is the process of shutting off the thought process. the idea is you don't think about anything at all. so how is nothing positive or negative? like water. it is neither a base nor an acid. even more so, the idea of meditation is just to be. it's reality. nothing more or less.

  • Thanks,

    Very simple and effective.

  • thanks! glad you liked it! :)

  • What a cute little monkey! ^_^'

Well this video does help me out some, Thanks.

  • glad it could help a little bit! :)

  • also, the monkey says thank you!! :)

  • They should really put meditation on school

  • i took meditation at my elementary school :)

  • damn... all i need is a monkey.....

  • heh ;)

  • With referance to the zazen meditation. I spent the weekend at a Soto Zen Monastery in Northhampton (UK) and the hand mudra was with the thumbs touching pointing upwards. So while your thumbs were touching correctly they were facing down. We were also told to 'Just Sit' which is a popular way of calling zazen. You don't foxus on breath, but instead just sit, and let go of your thoughts as they arise rather than hang onto them.

  • nifty. this actually isn't a meditation instructional video or anything... it's just a reply video to a fictional webseries called lonelygirl15 that aired a couple years ago...

but! i am sure that others who happen to stumble upon your comment will be sure too appreciate your advice :) thanks for the comment :)

  • nice ass u have :D

  • with eyes open the brain is still concentrating on the worries of the now, close the eyes and the brain no longer chatters.

  • if you feel more comfortable closing your eyes, you should close your eyes :)

  • Bubble,

    I think I love you.

  • awe :)

  • hey babe....I guess you stomach is suck in when u breath in and out,am i right.I am not an expert but i know mediation better cause i have been with gurus in India .One more guide help for you,no matter what mediation its only good if your eyes is close ,Why? well cause energy leaks from our body when our eyes are open.energy should be perserved dear

  • there are lots of different styles of meditation. neat about you studying in india, though.

this is Japanese style mediation. i have only trained in Japanese monasteries with Japanese monks (masters... the equivalent to your "gurus" i guess).

anyway. yeah. lots of different styles of meditation. no way is better. whatever style works best for you. you should keep doing it the way that works for you!! it's good you found a way that works best for you already!! :)

    :)

  • What do you do if you you don't have a monkey?.

  • hehehehe ;)

  • thanks this helped lots, im 15 and im not so good at school and im quite aggresive so i thought i would try meditation and its help thanks.

  • glad if it helped! :)

  • I'd tap that

  • Oh, I like you!

  • thanks! :)

  • Thanks for sharing it with us....

  • you're welcome :)

  • you're welcome! :)

  • the meditation u just performed is a very small part of the bigger set called YOGA in India. These are called asana and the first one you did is called padmasan and the second one you did is vajrasana. Its an ancient form of art. Refer wiki for more info

  • yeah, Japanese meditation came from Indian meditation, and yeah, yoga mean "to yoke"... pretty cool stuff. :)

  • are these the only two ways you can meditate or canyou just make yourself comfortable

  • oh no no there are TONS of ways to meditate... there are lots of different religions and different cultures that have many different styles... and even if you don't belong to a religion or a culture that has meditation, you can just make up whatever makes you feel comfortable!! :)

  • do you know what the chant:

'i am fire, fire is sight, i am flame, flame is sight'

    represents?

  • nope. haven't heard that before.

  • That was pretty concise and informative. Thanks for the video. Btw how long do you sit in meditation? And don't you feel sleepy after sometime?

  • it depends... it is good to start for shorter periods at a time at first... start maybe 5 or 10 minutes at first... then try for half an hour at a time is good i think.

if you get sleepy, then you should stop. the point is to stay mindful. if you're sleepy, then you're not staying mindful. :)

  • wut are the negative affects of meditation could u like lock ur mind up or wut and wut if u have so many things goin trough ur how bout that day once im in meitation wut happens wut do i do please answer

  • i don't think there are really any negative effects if you do it in a way that is safe... don't do it for too long, if you get uncomfortable stop.

  • I'm sorry but all I cant think about is LOl well lol AHAH well you know LOL!!!!!!

  • hehehe no need to be sorry!! this was a reply to lg15... wasn't really supposed to be serious!! hehehe!! :D

  • good for you.... Borrring

  • zzzzzzzzzz

  • how often r u supose to meditat... is it like eveyday?

  • how ever often you like! when ever you feel the need to be mindful.

  • no meditation is not about getting mindfull. we need to stop our mind with all kind of activities. thoughts, imagination or any kind of verbals. we need to be silent in our our mind so that we can go deep in meditation.

  • well, atmomanisha, i think there are different styles of meditation... in most of the styles i have learned, it is about staying mindful... but, there are different styles, your style is just as important as the other styles :)

  • more the better..for me that is. I try to hit an hour a day. My wife has a different view. She believes shorter but more quality. It really depends on your style.

  • Everyday.

  • I often find myself in deep daydreams while out and about which causes me to stop breathing untill i wakeup to myself LOL, would you be able to tell me what the heck im doin?? loll

  • hmmm... maybe meditation would help because the whole point is to try to stay mindful (i.e. not daydream) ...

if you find yourself not breathing a lot of the time, you should also go see your family doctor!

  • what ever works for u

    there are many ways

    we are one

    namaste

  • i caint cross my legs like you do it stretches my muscles that ive never felt before it hurts

  • you can sit in a chair or sit in any position that is comfortable :)

  • Thanks for the tips. I was wondering is sleeping actually meditation? We breathe slowly in sleep so it I say it could be considered meditation.

  • if you stay mindful while you are sleeping ;)

  • this helped me A LOT...

i couldn't calm myself down every time i see the person i hate so much...i mean c'mon...how would u like to be backstabbed and forgiv that person 3 times and stil backstab you? =/

  • you have a really pretty voice

  • thanks :)

  • lolol your welcome. your pretty too. The reason why i'm watching the video u made is because i'm bodybuilding and i have some of the fat that is stored in the body is because of stress and high cortisol levels. and its reccommended to do some sort of meditation to ease thoughts and bring down the stress to help bring down cortosol. Thanks for the tips also.

  • thnax i was wanting to clear my mind

  • glad it helped! :)

  • i tried this ones but hands together.

1st i lean in the wall and put pillow in my back so i dont get tired and lose focus.

started following my imagination lights(actually a red yinyang symbol but only half of it). then i see big circles going small not colored or something. then next thing i know im relax and my head bow down a little bit then saw a doctor image using an equipment and i think im in a bed. BRB meditate see what happen next. I hope i live in that dream.

  • Did the little monkey get relaxed? :-D

  • yup! :)

  • You shouldn't meditate with your eyes open.

  • that's what I thought too until I went to Japan and spent time with the Buddhists there.

  • how is the second one spelled? did you say "sanzen?" o.o

  • zazen. it's from Japan. :)

  • yeahhh I looked it up... see there's this song by a band called dredg called "sanzen" that I adooore and I knew it was related to meditation in some way (it means going to a zen master, I looked it up right after I made the comment <_<) and I was just confused and hopeful ._.

  • thank you so much.

  • thanks for watching the video :)

  • You can even meditate laying down, but once your chakras start engaging like gears and spinning really fast, don´t get afraid, you´ll see yourself out of your body and from then on, you won´t be the same. I think she forgot to tell you that.

  • No no your right. what some people don't know is that meditation is good for you as long you conrolling yourself, the chakra's however are inportend for you but once you have opend them last chakra is for the energie above, and you can go out of your body, but! now comes the hard part once your energie and spirit is out of your body you need to make sure that the place where your meditating, is full of good energie not bad! make sure that your Aura is without holes! thats verry inportend!

  • how on earth is that even possible!? i don't see that happening with me, sounds pretty cool though.

  • Uh... Wow.

  • are theese chakras apart of the body or apart of a religion thought to be within the body im christian and dont wanna go against jesus

  • actually, meditation doesn't have to have anything to do with religion, it can just be about calming your mind so that you can become mindful (more focused on now). you won't be going against jesus if you meditate. and you don't have to think about things like chakras or anything like that because that isn't about meditating, that's a part of someone else's religion. like, if you started your meditation by praying to jesus. :)

  • You can even meditate laying down, but don´t get afraid once your chakras start engaging like gears and spinning really fast, then you´ll see yourself floating out of your body. I guess, she forgot to tell you that.

  • Thats called sleeping and dreaming

  • hehehehe :) ;)

  • cool! i always wanted to learn to meditate.

  • sit on a phone book or raised platform that is solid, it will help you sit with a good spine alignment, without you tend to slouch forward. Make sure you sit towards the edge of the book, you will notice the difference when you get it ;)

  • can you give me any other ideas on how to calm down? like ive tried to meditate but it doesnt really calm me down the most help I need is before I go to bed I just cant calm myself down enough to sleep <3 kayla

  • walking helps some people calm down.

  • The meditation in this video is very generic and it's kinda meant as an introduction...when you get into deeper meditations, they really help you to calm down.

But yeah, walking is good, drinking Chamomile tea before bed might be a good idea too.

  • I am just trying to find a way to clam myslef down, if you found ,please tell me ,thank you.

  • Perhaps you could adjust some of the activities before you go to bed as well. What kind of energies are you putting into your body to cause you to be so restless at bedtime?

  • Thank you so much. Your a great person =]
