If your car has an OBD-I computer (diagnostics cable under the bonnet) you can usually bridge pin 10 to ground and the engine light will flash a code that corresponds to the error. Not sure if the pinout for OBD-I differs by manufacturer, at least that's the pins for Ford and Toyota. Google is also your friend when it comes to checking these flashing codes.
Autozone no longer offers free code scans on site, nor do they loan out the obd-2 code reader in California at least in my area. They used to, but no longer do so.
My car seems to be jerking at slow speeds on a cold/fresh start but goes away within a couple of mins but it always does this, what could be the problem?
@Shermanator8717 Check the obvious things first, like worn spark plugs and dirty fuel filter. then if that's not it, try cleaning the fuel injectors as I show in my scottykilmer channel video on youtube about How to clean fuel injectors in your car. Scotty Kilmer
scotty we have 2 things wrong with our impala 1 is when we go to use the turn signals and sometimes they dont work we have to put on the four ways a few times then it will work 2 this is all the time the gas will stick up u have to push down with little or moderate force to get it un stuck once unstuck it does not happen for the rest of the drive whats rong and how can we fix these problems?
@Matthew55904 Replace the four way switch, it may be going bad and causing all those electrical problems. As for the gas pedal, clean the throttle plate and valve as I show in my how to fix a car that cranks but doesn't start video on the scottykilmer channel of Youtube. Scotty Kilmer
@scottykilmer thanks scotty ill give it a try i have a question on my daewoo a few years ago the steering wheel would squeak when u turn it it went away for a couple years or so tonight not even 5 mins ago when i went out with my car it was fine until i got home turned on my street it started again but now it sound like sloshing of fluid when i turn the wheel when idle its a squeak whats the matter?
@scottykilmer to test if its the hazard switch would momentarily pulling the hazard fuse fix it? last time it happened i was driving turnin it on it blinked stoped blink stopped half a click and stopped all together pushed the hazard switch let it give 4 blinks shut it off and blinker worked i was told its the turn signal switch
@Matthew55904 That would test some of the circuit but not it all, as the circuit works differently with power or no power.. You wouldnt' be testing the circuit with power, so it's not a very good test really. Scotty
@gomerfa Ah, but you can buy your own scanner online for a lot less than that, and use it over and over, unless they control prices on the net in sweden too. Scotty Kilmer
i've used google to help with repairs of all kinds for years, the only problem when trouble shooting you can spend days looking at people whining about the same thing your whining about. Don't give up, keep hunting and you'll find some valueable info
@drbizerk Sure, there's whiners all around, but that doesn't do any good. So you do a little reading, and then make your results a favorite website so you can go back for faster answers tne next time. scotty Kilmer
@ponchoyo Hey, what's in a name anyway. I was just having fun because I didn't have to slave away fixing cars as it was raining outside. Scotty Kilmer
@kenmanuknow Ah yes, but if you know how to use google, you can pretend to be a genius mechanic like me. (I must admit, even I use it as a professional mechanic as it's often much faster than even professional mechanic data sources.) Scotty Kilmer

Scotty, How can you tell if your spark plugs are on their last legs? Or when it's good to get new ones?
pmzeroify 10 months ago
@pmzeroify They are worn at the tips and the spark gap is too big, then you change me, OR if they are burned up with carbon from oil burning. Scotty

@uzaiyaro Tis true, Google even helps me as a professional mechanic to fix cars, it's often more accurate and faster than paid data services. Scotty

@Matthew55904 squeaking is usually just plastic rubbing, leave that alone. As for sloshing, check the fluid level in the pump. Scotty
