I've listened to Kempff's complete cycle and would compare it favorably to his approach to the Schubert sonata cycle - small scale; he was never one to show speed and bravura for the sake, much akin to that of Backhaus. Then there are the titans who abound in technique, such as Richter, Cziffra and Schnabel...
Few project the inner coherence of Beethoven sonata's as does Kempff. One just senses the logical and correct placement of every note and phrase - no affectation or false bravado.
@Evilemporerbunny hello, william did not compose this you &$@&$&)(;//)$&?!&?

This is my first time listening to this sonata and most of the time I could never tell what not was going to be next, he kept surprising me.

@TheEvilEmporerBunny Shouldn't you be posting that on a vid of a piece he actually composed?

Well said. One ought ask themselves how a work is meant to be played and not how they might in vanity put their signature upon a performance.

Very good! Best! Tommy Leo, Annie Fischer, and Daniel Barenboim are equal for the best!

There are no better, although a few were his equal,
Freddy, Serkin. Geza Anda, Fischer and occasionally Gould when he didn't get taken away with the land speed piano record.
