I think it's different places, not sure at all. but I do know they film around the same time, sometimes they will have all 3 shows filming at once.

The detectives from the original Law & Order work at the fictional 27th Precinct. The characters from SVU work at the Manhattan SVU, which isn't a precinct, it's a separate division on it's own ( I believe, I may be mistaken here)

I don't watch the original but Criminal Intent is at One Police Plaza & SVU is in Manhattan, the 16th precinct (also known as the 1-6) Manhattan SVU is just what they call it because there is a SVU in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx etc... All of it is in Manhattan because that is where they shoot, but their warehouse with the squad rooms and stuff is in their warehouse in New Jersey

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is my wife and myself's Wednesday Night show! SVU in my opinion is the best of the Law & Order franchise. The sex crimes are so emotional. I however do watch old episodes of the original series. Didn't Angie Harmon and Jerry Orbach (RIP) guest crossover on SVU's first season? I miss the partnership of Jerry Orbach and Benjamin Bratt.

A clever reinvention of a familiar theme. This show had three incredible aspects going for it out of the gate: It was a spin-off from L&O, featuring the Florek character from its early seasons; it starred the daughter of Jayne Mansfield; and it tangentially carried on the other best cop show on tv at the time, HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET, which had just been canceled, by lifting the Belzer character from that show, after several crossovers with it, and making him a regular on this one.
