This is my favorite ABBA song actually. A shame that this song didn't get more attention, because I absolutely love UA. Upbeat yet melancholic at the same time, this song encapsulated ABBA's musical spirit and what they were all about imo.
Another single that bombed in the UK - Abba's output wasn't inferior in the early 80s, it's just the music world had taken another direction, this was the era of the British invasion of almost every country with their new romantic/synth pop groups. And this sounded tame compared to the Human League, Eurythmics etc ....... shame Abba didnt get the send off they deserved
why does Vevo have such BAAAAD quality sound????? just some fat asses sitting counting money not really caring about music!! They probably wouldn't recognize music if it had legs and came walking their way!! This is all just for money money money....
@somesortanaughty Bad sound quality? It's the 80's, the quality you're listening this too is probably 240p and it was intended to be recorded with a low quality. Check your headphones/loudspeaker, maybe the fault is in them.
Si vous ne connaissez pas l'album "The Visitors" je vous conseille de l'écouter, c'est une perle. A mon avis le meilleur album de ABBA. Dommage que ce fût le dernier.
Nowadays, Frida is the prettiest, because the media adores the darker haired gals. But back in the seventies everyone fancied blonde Agnetha!! Funny how time changes views....
@cantamos100 After the release of the "The Visitors" album, Bjorn was quoted as saying "If the next album is no fun to make, then we probably won't release it at all and we'll split up the group. That's the simple philosophy we have. We're not going to go on if we don't think it's fun anymore". The Visitors album cover brought much speculation as the band are all far apart from each other and looking in different directions. The photo-shoot was brief as they all wanted to leave quickly.
Never understood the robovoice thing. But it's a good song. Though they should have stopped promoting themselves up to this point. Totally uninspired..
@cradleofnils That's why they ended it here. It was uninspired, and tense, and boring. Two divorced couples trying to make music with each other is not a sustainable situation.
Agnetha is very pretty but for me Frida is most prettier. Frida have good voice but Agnetha have better voice. I know the most is the voice and the talent of the two girl. is only one comentary of the beauty of the two women, the two girl are so beatiful.
@wieslawl59 That's so true. Agnetha and Annifrid each contributed their own particular brand of talent and beauty to the band. Just as Bjorn and Benny each contributed their own brand of songwriting and performing. The band was complete when it was together and they all complemented each other.
I'm surprised Atlantic Records didn't release this on 45 in the USA. It was just a LP track on "ABBA - The Singles" collection. I think its a great song and could have been a hit here in the states.
Sounds to me like Benny & Bjorn were really paying close attention to synth-pop groups like The Human League when I hear this song, The Visitors LP and the few songs they left behind ("You Owe Me One" "I Am The City"). Then again groups like the Human League owe a HUGE debt to ABBA.
@BriChase98 Our taste is not the same. Some people like Frida more then Agnetha, others like Angetha more than Frida. Some people like both of them, some of the people get stomach-ache because of hearing word "ABBA". But I agree with you :) And it's so great song too! They should release this one with the other 8 too on the 9th album they planned!
@WiiMiiMe 'Under attack' was the last single, but 'the day before you came' was the last song that ABBA recorded together. UA was recorded 02/08/82 Released Dec 1982 and TDBYC was recorded 20/08/82, released Oct 1982
@crazycraig73 Not quite a billionaire, but until Mamma Mia came along in 1999, it was said she was the richest member of the group, partly due to her getting out of her Polar Music shares in the early 1980's before ABBA's investment companies and Oil company crashed. She also avoided the large tax scandal that hit the group a few years back, when Millions in unpaid tax had to be paid back. Such a shame that the relationship between ABBA and Stig, their manager wasn't too good in the end :o(
@discogareth Anni-Frid is one of "the 300 wealthiest of Switzerland" with assets of between 200 and 300 million Swiss Francs. Although, she was not poor before she married, she acquired most of her wealth from her deceased husband "Prince Heinrich Russo". Her Serene Highness Princess Anni-Frid Reuss von Plauen"
@discogareth You are not quite accurate on the tax scandal. It was Björn who was accused, but he actually won in the court of law as far as I remember.
@wieslawl59 Agnetha was also involved, a figure of about £5m GBP each was mentioned at the time. ( around 1994/5). I admit though I do not know what the outcome was. Then of course there was the other tax issue involving Benny and the Hep Stars during the 1960's, but thats another issue. :o)
@themaytagrepairman Not forgetting to mention Husqvarna, IKEA and Hennis and Mauritz as well! And although I'm not exactly an expert on the difference between Swedish and American brands and products, ( in the way of consumer friendliness, durability, endurance etc.) I must admit I did find my secondhand Ford Escort quite reliable over the years. So in that respect, I didn't have any qualms or complaints about this truly "All American"-product. But SWEDISH automobiles are pretty smart too!
simon260197. i used the 80,s the correct times for explend to you my friend. my english is so so but i know, i used good the expresion 80,s correct. God bless you.

Agnetha looks older than she is in this video- and her haircut reminds me of someone from ghost hunters- does anyone know how old frida is in this video
@1stockracersingapore Hey, if there was the internet in the 1970/1980s I bet there would have been millions of hits for each of ABBAs songs, but checkout the views for Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes It All on the right hand side of this page.
@1stockracersingapore well the day that talentless twit gets to 350,000,000 sales world wide will never happen. I'd give him 18 months before he is gone and forgotten.
This is one of my favorites by them. I was surprised how much I liked their music when I heard 'em. I never thought much about 70's music (before my time).
> > >This is fantastic music ! Here we find a Really GREAT video to go with the TIMELESS MUSIC - - -
and you degrade yourself into expressing your lack of appreciation ? - - of the PHYSICAL LOOK of one band member ?!? Can't you find a more meaningful task ?
So thankful for these videos that we can fall back on...very little of what I hear in today's music can match the quality of what ABBA did 30 years ago, with very little of today's technology. Stunning music from the most amazing pop band in music history.
@TheCoventryblaze - The only reason ABBA ended was because sadly, both couples divorced and understandably things went downhill from there. It would be difficult, (and that's putting it lightly), singing love songs that used to apply to your beloved wife who is now your ex-wife. :(
Loved so much Mamma Mia! on stage in NYC I cannot avoid to see i t again in London. It's amazing to see how many, as me remembered these songs and this era...So long ago!
I've never heard a song that sounds anything like this before. It must be a completely original idea no one ever came close to thinking of before.I want to hear more songs like this.Too bad they didn't make it twice as long.
Correct me if i'm wrong but i think this was their last North American single....its too bad about the personal issues that led to the groups break up i think they could have made the transition further into the 80's had they stayed together the talent was certianly there both musically and of course vocally.
@vardiss22 Yes, this was their last single, though their last recorded song was The Day Before You Came. And I wholeheartedly agree with you, had it not been for the personal problems, they would have done great in the '80s. Their last songs, You Owe me One, I am The City are the proof. :P
@monitai So much - I totally agree. That's why the girls (sadly) failed in their solo careers - they just didn't have the songwriters to back them up.
I SO MUCH love this song. ABBA's "The Visitors" album was by far their best - I will never understand how the world didn't take to it as much or more than their previous albums.
the song/video clip kinda lingers by Not the Nine o Clock news is a knock off of this. the music is very Abba style too. Its pretty rude, but its funny! Check it out.
@monitai i meant in the videos. they should be playing instruments instead of just standing there and read all of my comment, i said they were an amazing band
1:54 to 2:07 Benny looks like he's ready to quit the band right there and then.

there was, nor will there ever be another ABBA

This is EXACTLY the kind of music that made the 70s & 80s great.

Love this song! Don't you know, did they plan this song as the 3rd track on their 9th LP?

I've never heard a song that sounds anything like this before. It must be a completely original idea no one ever came close to thinking of before.I want to hear more songs like this.Too bad they didn't make it twice as long.

The premier band of continuous harmony.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think this was their last North American single....its too bad about the personal issues that led to the groups break up i think they could have made the transition further into the 80's had they stayed together the talent was certianly there both musically and of course vocally.
vardiss22 1 year ago
@vardiss22 Yes, this was their last single, though their last recorded song was The Day Before You Came. And I wholeheartedly agree with you, had it not been for the personal problems, they would have done great in the '80s. Their last songs, You Owe me One, I am The City are the proof. :P

Oh my God, they're walking away. :(
Isn't that the saddest part in all of their music videos?
shadowofanight 1 year ago 2
You can hear the 80s sound in this song a change from the disco sound of the 70s which is in most of their songs

Those two voices blended together.... pure magic.

Two amazing songwriters + Two amazing vocalists = ABBA

the song/video clip kinda lingers by Not the Nine o Clock news is a knock off of this. the music is very Abba style too. Its pretty rude, but its funny! Check it out.

love this song one of their best before before splitting...only problem is that some of the vocals are hard to understand, especially in the chorus
geminikev1 1 year ago
I am The City recorded May 8 1982 was one of their best later songs. check it out on YT.

@monitai i meant in the videos. they should be playing instruments instead of just standing there and read all of my comment, i said they were an amazing band
