Alright, you got me. What visual pack are you using that makes the warships relativistically huge, like how I actually imagine them. It never made sense to me that 10,000 people could fit aboard a Hecate the way the model was originally designed, the one in this video looks like it actually does justice to the crew complement plus millions of tons of hardware. Same for the Bellerephon, Chimera, Narayana...the list goes on. I want that, where can I get it?

What an excellent mod this is - and having Freespace 2 (which you can now get from GOG.com for $6) means I can get the Open Project and Campaign Pack 2.0 that gives me better graphics, all the missions from Freespace 1 with Freespace 2 graphics and over 100 Freespace campaigns! That's right ONE HUNDRED campaigns! Not missions but CAMPAIGNS!! How can U not love that!!!

Depending on what you want, GoG is the best option - because it's guaranteed you get one copy and it's legal. ebay is good if you want to collect a physical copy, and torrents of copyrighted material are of course illegal. I still have a copy from way back when it was newer at home, but considering that one day GoG might stop their service and copies might be hard to find on ebay, I always mention torrents as a last, albeit illegal, source.

@EliteGod000 Heh. Torrents certainly aren't "illegal in every way whatso ever". Almost all Linux distributions and open source software are distributed through bittorrent! Its the illicit use of it that's illegal. Additionally, Freespace and Freespace 2 are considered abandonware as they released the source code to the open forum. It IS still under Volition's copyright, though.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but you really shouldn't speak out of your ass when it comes to that stuff.

ahh nice, I've been anticipating Jumpgate: Evolution, basically its controlled like FS2 in fighters, except online in a MMORPG like EVE...Anyway I remembered playing FS2 like 10 years ago when I was a kid, so after seeing these vids I had to go buy it :), installed mediaVP's and some stuff last night, I'll have to look into Blue Planet, looks great

It uses the Blue Planet mod for Freespace 2. It's still a WIP, but we hope it'll be out before too long. :)

Basically, the GTVA is paranoid of the UEF. But there is *merit* to their paranoia to the extent that the Earthers are in no condition to deal with a threat like the one their peers faced in the second Shivan War.

Plus, since Earth is the cradle of humanity, it very much has the political influence to seriously cripple the GTVA, which is destabilizing enough as it is.

A sucky situation for all involved, like most real wars.

And then there are those Shivans... still out there.

I think you need to read it again. The GTVA's reasons make good sense.

In short, they feel that the UEF is a theocracy whose philosophy would dangerously compromise mankind's ability to fend off the Shivans.

Again, you should read the prose on the Blue Planet website (under 'Media'). The GTVA had predicted that its own populace was vulnerable to the UEF's philosophy, and that peaceful contact could lead to the collapse of the GTVA.
