  • annie lennox...laurie anderson..jane siberry...

  • if you like Jane you should also check out her contemporary Belinda Metz. It took me years to find her again but she always make me feel the 80s again.

  • Canada's answer to Cyndi Lauper.

  • great artist!

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • thanx for uploading this... forgot just how good Jane is... what happened to music... everything these days is the same... what an original, clever, artsy writer she is...

  • Always thought this harmony was one of the best I've ever heard. This was her heyday.

  • yes, she is a loop and she's obviously so incredibly comfortable with herself. i feel happy when i hear this song.

  • @authenticitypurpose It is her offbeat persona that makes her so adorable!!!!! It is not manufactured like lady gaga or madonna. She is also very talented

  • good tune from a relatively unknown Canadian talent....wierd and wonderful from the '80s ...supposedly based all her music on vocalizations, then found words to match.....

  • i was a little girl listening lover her

  • This is not the music video that I saw in rotation in Canada when the song was charting.

  • Did she accidentally bop that cow in the eye at 1:33?

  • This is one of the worst videos I have ever, ever seen. And the song is an embarrassment to the 80s. This lady is a whack job! Who the hell signed her?

  • @shagginflies she is different - but at least she is original and her songs are well written... just not as mainstream..as some POP from that era.... give her another listen.... I love the eighties too... because they opened up so many different artists.... think of boy george... better than adam lambert... etc....

  • One of the greatest feel-good songs ever, even with that creepy cow puppet.

  • why are people not writting happy songs anymore? Why all the hate and anger rap???

  • @ecliptick007

I would guess that it is easier to write about hate and cars and ho's and drugs than real emotion. IMO.

  • @ecliptick007 Good point!

  • @ecliptick007 You are SOOOOOOOOOO right! This is like, the happiest song I've ever heard. Happy is much better than angry.

  • One of my favourite songs of 1985. It takes me back to being a student in Canada, watching MuchMusic and drinking Salada tea. LOL

  • Thank you for uploading/ this was so nice to see and hear!

  • Her look reminds me of Boy George of the early 80s.

  • it makes me so happy to hear this song.

  • ..... why is this in the vienna teng playlist.

  • if you take the time to really listen to the words you just might take something away thats good for your soul

  • This song is a goddamn GEM!!! :D

  • wht the freak is up with the puppet?!

  • the opening segment (in the kitchen) is a riot. damn that's funny. i had no idea siberry could be so funny

  • weird!

  • 2cute <3

  • I first learned of Jane Siberry about 1986 when I saw this video on VH-1 (back when VH-1 wasn't crappy). I bought her album. Every piece on it was great.

  • I saw Jane years ago and she only played stuff off her new CD I was a little upset being a big fan at the time.

  • @youngwarrior10 is it on youtube?

  • isn't there another video for this? i remember there being kind of a watercolour look to the video and there wasn't so much sort of "acting" in it, it was a straight lip sync...

  • I love Jane and her music. It was so great to see her in London this year during her Salons Tour. Jane and 20 guests. Magical evening.

  • she is as all have said here , a wonderful soul & when she was in winnipeg she made that crap hole of a city a bright place to be in . The video was shot on or in the area where NBC 's Tv series Little House On the Prairie was in last few filming of episodes . Great local shoo, great song great woman .

  • I Love this song. I believe there were 2 video's made for this song. I remember one with leaves and colours and things

  • everyone in this video is cheesin their face off.

  • Great video! I live in GERMANY, but CANADIAN MUSIC & VIDEOS are REALLY UNIQUE! Never heard of this great lady before 2009! Really enjoy her :-)

  • Still an absolutely beautiful song, as it was 25 (!) years ago.

  • I just saw a program on Vision TV featuring an interview with Jane on Spirituality. It was lovely to see her again. She has written some beautiful and quirky music. A little trivia....she is referred to in Shawn Colvin's song "Kill The Messenger" from "Fat City"...great women artists!!!

  • I met Jane in a Toronto mall back in 1987 or 1988 and had a wonderful 15 minute chat with her. I was the only person who recognized her because of her sunshine smile. She was a vibrant, energetic woman who was more than happy to talk with me. I could never get over how her smile was so bright and genuine. Watch the video from 1:10 for 10-15 seconds and you'll see what I mean. When we said goodbye she flashed that smile and I knew I had met someone with a beautiful heart.

  • What a gift to the world. You just gotta love her!

  • Wonder what happened to her? A truly original talent...

  • There used to be a great video of hers posted here called "The Walking". Can someone, anyone please re-post it? It's by far her best video and one of her very best songs.

  • Saw Jane Sibbery at Ontario Place, one of the most memorable moments in my concert going life. I was blown away by her talent and humour.

  • A cow walking with her heifer. Or is it the other way around?

  • WOW, I did not know Jane Siberry did this song, I am a product of ALL eighties and missed this one! I first got Sarah Polley's version of "One More Colour" on the movie THE SWEET HEREAFTER, that put amazing turn to it.

  • i know i saw this video before but i couldn't remember who sang it and i saw a woman walking with a cow! lol so it was her huh?

  • Wow the first time I heard this was in early 1986

remembered the "cow" from the video years later and

mistakenly thought the track was called "speckled sky"

thank goodness for You Tube and the awesome ppl

that upload these great retro vids-I love this song and the

vid is so sweet .Have things changed so drastically in

24-25 years? Believe it or not this vid got pretty decent rotation

on MTV back in the day-unbelievable huh considering how

    bad the "new" MTV sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This video brings back so many wonderful memories. Thanks for posting it.

  • frikken vid won't play pat 53 secs... all I want is to watch vids of my fav songs... GD beurocrats tryin' to make cash through legal-ease ( ya.. "ease" )

  • @mccoobs ... yes, it plays all the way through for me... i don't know whats up...?

  • this was the second, (american) video of this song. The first one is verrrrrryyyy different! I wonder if anybody out there has it? i can't find it anywhere. It was a lot more "airy-fairy"... good, though.

  • The cow's name was Buttercup and calved a couple of days later.

Jane has gone back to calling herself Jane again. Passing phase.

Unfortunately, this beautiful song and video really ended up kinda stereotyping her. The show you are talking about was called I Muse Aloud. Apparently someone did the I Ching for her and told her "cows will lead you the way"

I don't think the song is supposed to be all deep and meaningful. Just a nice song...

  • she has gone back to calling herself Jane Siberry again.

She just liked cows. the song is just about liking life. duh.

  • Canada is a country I'd certainly like to visit.

  • yeah, probably better to visit than live here. Of course, we do have Universal Health Care, but we also have cold weather and winters that seem to last forever. Let me know when you are coming... I 'll save you a Double-Double from Tim's. LOL .. nice, eh? hahahah

  • Not familiar with exactly what a Double-Double is. Aside from that, winters are cold here, too. Health care in Germany is provided in Germany as well. Meanwhile I'll listen to my Jane Siberry collection.

  • sorry, just a canadian "in-joke".. a double-double is a double cream, double-sugar coffee from Tim Horton's ...our very large coffee chain. In fact, the first Tim's started in the city where i was born and live.. LOL.. glad to find another Jane lover. you might want to check out her website!

  • @alysonrl 1 cream 2 sugar... don't like the new "green" mugs......... does this vid play past 53 secs for you?

  • apparently she's walking with cows barefoot on dirt roads now. gave everything away, changed her name and is happy. and probably hungry. good for her. love her 80's stuff. makes me smile and feel clean for some reason.

  • She mentioned in an interview years ago about the cow. Can't remember much of it, but it has something to do with an ancient Chinese myth or tradition about the cow leading you on your path. Or something like that. No idea how to find the interview now.

  • I live in Berlin, Germany and heard this song last Saturday morning on Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap (CBC 1 encore show). Nice song, I don't believe I've heard it song before. Sounds so nice and 80-ish and has a happy tune & message.

I like Canadian music, which gets very little airplay on German radio. So I listen to your stations on the net.

KEEP ON RECORDING GREAT SONGS in CANADA!

  • It's one of my favourite Canadian songs from the 1980s. I remember hearing it for the first time on 'Good Rockin' Tonite' on CBC in 1985. Yes, a happy tune-- happy and carefree. It was the best time to live in Canada.

I'm surprised you don't hear much Canadian music on German radio. I have family in Germany and every time I was there, I'd hear a lot of Canadian music. Maybe things have changed.

  • this is so beautiful. on the sooner side of half, i was sobbing like crazy. this is the song that really opened my heart's door to the beauty of this woman's talent. there were a few probable chances i had to see jane at the hillside festival over the years but it ended up that i had bannock making workshops in the same timeslot... d'oh

    i love you jane :)

  • C'mon, you can't figure this out? The cow is what it's all about, just look at the part with the feet when they're walking and if you still can't figure it out, drop the course cause you're barking up the wrong tree.

  • same here. still havent finished this essay.

  • To all who have a certain Mr. Miles for Advanced Composition:

Good Luck. I need some as well.

  • @ajblanck

I'm in the same boat as you, my friend!

  • This is absurd. The cow is absolutely meaningless and holds no hidden symbolism.

  • Comment removed

  • being a Canadian i have been familiar with Jane's work since I was a teen in the 80s..now i am 44 and just now really paying attention to Jane's fabulous talent..though this video has always been one of my favs, i love the cow in this video, totally love that she put a cow in her video..really cute the 2 of them walking down the raod together..

IF ANYONE has her vhs video compilation with her music videos let me know, has been out of print for awhile, would love to find it.

  • well she was always a bit nutty...... talented though

  • Jane is now ISSA ? Hmmmm........ see what happens when you hang out with New Age Twinkies ................... but the girl whatever her name is or will be can turn a creative tune.

  • @mysticradio She's now Jane Siberry again.

    Jane's mail:

as of one month ago, i have officially changed my name from issa to jane siberry.

all i know is 'it is time'

thank you always for your respect.

    issa, jane siberry

  • Jane is back to being Jane.

  • That's a terrible thing to say, JohnyKimbled. You take that back! Jane/Issa is good. :)

  • Have loved this song for years, was a staple in my radio show in the 80's. I'd like to give props here to Ken Myhr, Jane's guitarist from this era, whose guitar work really delivers the heavenly goods on this song! Just beautiful.

  • Yay! Another Ken Myhr appreciator! He had his own distinctive sound, perfectly woven into Jane's music. For those new to his work, the solo on "You Don'T Need" is one of my top ten fave all time, with Jimi's All along the watchtower, Gilmours You don't need no education etc, and his rythym work on Calling all angels is simple perfection too.

CBC documentary sounds like something I could pass on.

  • CBC did a documentary in September about 80s musicians from Canada. She wasn't mentioned, let alone featured.

  • nice song, brings back memories

  • this is one of most spiritually relevant songs ever made. so touching. i'll always love her songs, so special.

  • wasnt that a great show of memories. that show made up for no metion of Muchs 26 birthday.

  • Ogwen! Bessie's gone! Bessie's gone away!!!

  • She's one of a kind! Thanks!

  • Jane/Issa: I love you !

  • That poor cow! It was very tolerant. Great vid-a bit unusual.

  • The cow was very and imminently

    PREGNANT.

  • i am friends with a lady who is almost a spitting image of Jane Siberry. Too bad i am almost the only person who remembers Jane... Aside from all of you here.

  • she sounds like elisabeth fraser from the cocteau twins. this is the first time i'm hearing this artist. I had to check her out because she's been compared to kate bush.

  • She does doesn't she. I never noticed that.

  • this song is so fucking awesome to this day. Stunning.

  • I do love this but I wish someone, anyone, would re-post "The Walking". Please?

  • I just uploaded 'Map Of The World' from VH1 New Visions 1986.

    Enjoy!

  • "Here...all we have here is sky;

    All the sky is, is blue;

    All that blue is, is

    ONE MORE COLOUR NOW....."

    OMG!!!!!!!! Absolute perfection :-D

I have been a fan of Issa/Jane for over 25 years. She is sublime

  • I read somewhere that they just continued to add layers and layers of Jane - one on top of the other to create the harmonies. Beautiful song..!

  • She's the most under-rated singer in Canada. An angel.

  • It's hard to pick a "favourite song" but if I had to... this would be it. It makes me feel as if my soul is connected to something glorious that I can't comprehend.

"...and soon you will be there..."

  • i remember this from toronto rocks

  • This was the version made for America - the Canadian one evidently wasn't considered good enough.

I have a friend who has the original video (taped from Video Hits) - he keeps trying to digitize it, but it doesn't turn out very well. :(

  • i loved this song since i was a kid....of course from Video Hits...lol! I always remember her walking th cow and finding that quite strange...but hey it worked...20 yrs later and thats all i remember

  • same with me, only I heard it on the radio when I was two

  • Going through the old vinyl collection & came across this LP. Thanks for posting the video! Any chance you have 'The Very Large Hat' as well?

  • Bizarre! I remember owning the cassette of this album when I was an undergraduate music composition major in 1993.. I really enjoyed it, but never saw the videos related to it.. Such odd but fun visuals.. I think I need to go pick up the cd's and take another listen..

  • I have always loved this tune.

  • That melody...I've got chills.

  • @crayzigurl: according to Quantum Mechanics, we are part wave (everything is), and if a melody hits that (syncs) wavelength perfectly then we get a euphoric feeling from it. Certain artists, like Jane Siberry, have found that perfect sync of melody and it's very rare indeed.........sorry for the scientific explanation, but I am just concurring with what you said!

  • I think I saw it orginally on Toronto Rocks after school one afternoon. RIP John Majhor.....you were the best!!

  • What happened to the original video she did for this?? It was her dancing and singing on a completely blue background from what I can remember. I recall she said something in an interview once about the significance someone told her of cows in her life, hence the reshot video.

  • If I were to give you one word that sums this up: joyful.

  • It's funny how something (or someone) like Jane Siberry was a household name around Ontario and Canada. She always had interesting videos and it was a def time when Canadians had interest in musically supporting their own, and sometimes even more (or equal) than other countries. Such a song now would have music programmers scratching their head. We've been offered much stupid offerings.

  • It's a peculiar song and video, always thought that way back when. But, it always stuck with me for some reason and I still enjoy it. The lyrics are words of wisdom that make you think a bit. Thanks for posting the song :)

  • This song brings back memories.... Like many of my fellow Canadians, we saw this clip and many others every Friday evening on CBC's ''Good rockin' tonight'', which was hosted by Stew Jeffries.

I agree with most of you have said. Life was free and easy back then-- we weren't at all blasé like we are today.

  • This is pure Canadian 80s magic. God I miss this song! Thank you for posting it.

  • First time hearing the original of this tune. Not bad, but I'm more familiar with the Rheostatics rocked-up cover of it, which is an improvement, me thinks.

  • Actually, I believe that was Mary Margaret O'Hara. I had thought the same thing after hearing the theme for the first time, but listen close and you can hear O'Hara's style of singing.

  • directed by none other than jerry casale of devo

  • This song instantly returns me to the mid 80's

Boy, were things a lot easier back then... life still held wonder and dazzle... sigh...

  • ...you sure got that right. the first time i heard this song at suny brockport i ran out to the record shop the next day to get the album...life was free and easy back then...just like the feel of this great song.
