He's skilled at switching... he usually keeps the pick between his index and middle fingers... he just keeps his fingers tight together and holds it, then whips it out when he needs it. If you look really close, at 2:07 or 2:08 you can see the movement of his fingers as he shifts it to play position. He's amazing...
