@sean7134 contrary to what you may believe these work well in the states even for a commercial application, the UCLA Surgery Center in Santa Monica, CA just installed one and has been extremely happy with it
@sean7134 Well this might store a little bit of pride, automated parking systems were invented by the Americans, in particular the ferris wheel paternoster system which can now be found all over Japan, and was invented in Chicago around the 1920's. Besides, this isn't a commercial project, it's a car silo used by Volkswagon in one of its factories, though similar structures can be found in other places in Germany and across much of the world.
In my country I work in a German company. There are lots of Germans working together with me here. To tell the truth Gemans the best people I have ever known! Especially their punctuality .
The car towers work like giant vending machines: As a new car arrives from the factory, it’s transported by robot to an empty storage slot in one of the towers; when a customer shows up to collect the car, the same robotic picking system fetches the vehicle, brings it down to ground level, and transfers it to the KundenCenter in the next building. Each tower holds up to 400 cars on 20 levels and can process a car every 45 seconds during peak times............ wolfsburg factory peoples
If this is the speed it works at there must be a heck of a lineup at rush hour. I mean, I'm not trying to hate: it's clever, but it also looks awfully slow.
@PreflashGordon You do realize that this is inside of a Volkswaggon factory right? It isnt ment for public use, only for delivering vehicles to buyers.
@PreflashGordon they are selling cars, not hotdogs... these cars are not exported, only sold to people on site, and they can take 2 vehicles off every 60 seconds
Very clever for accessing stock as needed but it would be a bad system for public parking; imagine how long it would take to get your car after a ball game - yours and 20,000 others.
@JDBourgault I think it's greener than one would imagine. Packing that many cars in that tightly in such a small footprint reduces congestion and pollution. The emissions savings of not driving in a circle up 32 floors is enormous. It's not paved. No concrete to maintain. Less liability.
It's hydraulic so it should be extremely efficient. Probably one big electric pump per-arm (with a backup of course) moving fluid pressure... and only when it needs to.
Haha "Weiß ist einfach eine blöde Autofarbe" lol ... ja bei solchen Autos schon ... aber schon mal nen weißen Murcielago gesehn? Da machste in die Hosen vor Glück xD
@jesper86broberg Probably have glass windows so the building itself looks nicer from the outside! I'd imagine a towering block of cement wouldn't look the best!
So much for waiting in the car
