Love this video, My daughter is over 2 years old and is still nursing! September 8th, 2012 will be her 1000th day of breastfeeding (obviously unless SHE quits before then, but i don't see that happening)
Thank you for making this video, some people are so ignorant....your baby is too friggen adorable. My son is 4 weeks old on Wednesday & will be home from the NICU on Thursday, despite the fact we are not together I pump every 3 hours & go in twice a day to feed him on breast & plan to slowly cut out the bottle feeding once he's home. I will nurse in public & if he doesn't want to be covered then he won't be, I don't care what anyone says.
@GingerShrubb YAY! Thanks for the compliments! Are you on Facebook? There is a great resource site Breastmilk for Preemies that might be of use to you. Also, "Mama Christa" of The Good Letdown blog has lots of preemie breastfeeding experience. Role models for you! :)
I believe private places should have the right to choose if breastfeeding is allowed in their place of business/conduct. Just like some places require a suit and tie. I would of course breast feed if I became a mother because it is healthier but I also would make the effort to pump milk so that I can be in public and feed my child with respect to all those around me. But this is personal preference. To each his own I guess.
@14bfisher Come back to me when you do have a child and try to pump. It is seriously way more work than it is worth. I've had two children and have NEVER been able to pump more than 2 oz at a time... yet my children have been exclusively breastfed with no supplementation what-so-ever so obviously they are getting out more than 2oz. Once you pump the milk, you have to store it, re-heat it, and then serve it to your baby. If your baby doesn't finish the bottle then you throw it away. What a waste.
@Superunflour I should say - it's more work than its worth to pump if your child will drink straight from the tap. Being an exclusive pumper is a lot of work and my hats off to you ladies! If that is the only way, it is totally worth it.
@14bfisher Pooping in public isn't protected by law... and generally speaking folks can make it to a bathroom without issue. A child needs to eat when a child needs to eat. It has nothing to do with you.
I think covering calls much more attention than not. Nobody has their boob just "hanging out" in public like some people would like to think. If you wear a nursing tank top under your shirt, it's very easy to breastfeed "discreetly"--unhook the tank top, lift your shirt just enough for the baby to latch on, and you're good to go. No cover needed! :)
So cute! My LO won't tolerate a cover, either. She's only 5mo, but she tosses off a cover just like that. She even pushes my shirt up; I try to pull it down around her face to minimize exposure and she just pushes it right back up. I tried one of those nursing covers that hangs around your neck; she couldn't toss it off like a blanket so she just started screeeeaming. That's when I decided: if cover=scream, I was done trying to hide.
Thanks for this. It's funny, I've never once, not ONCE gotten crap for nursing uncovered in public. My LO is 13 months and today a guy raised his newspaper when I started nursing in the oil change lobby, but hey I have no problem with that. He didn't take out his insecurities on me and force me to blanket my baby's face in the Tucson heat. He covered himself and didn't ask me to. However for some reason people are quite ruthless online in their criticism. Cowardly.
Babies have a very limited ability to regulate their body temperature or let you know they are overheated when they are still small enough to cover up and not fight back. It's cruel and unnecessary.
Way too big to breastfeed? I didn't know there was an age or weight requirement to do so! I hate people who post stupid stuff like that! Covers are too hot & hard to keep on.
This video is perfect. Love it. I also hate and never use covers. I also plan to nurse my baby till she wants to regardless of WHAT age that might be...
Good for you for continuing! My first son, self weaned at 33 months during my pregnancy with his brother, who is now 3 months old and will also continue until he is ready to self wean. Good Job Mama!
@shashaaaa Just kidding. But in any event... as lovely as your 'opinion' is on the age of weaning... it does not reflect the World Health Organization recommendation for length of nursing. I think I'll follow some expert doctors instead of you. :) And for the record... this video is a year old... and that same child is still nursing. So now he's SUPER old. Ha!
@shashaaaa Oh gosh, I can't STAND comments like this! Seriously, why does it matter to you how old the child is? It's not your kid so it shouldn't matter! People have really downgraded breastfeeding, um HELLOOOOO Your breasts are NATURAL, and it's quite strange that something so natural PRODUCES the milk it takes to feed a baby.
From the World Health Organization site: "Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond."
And the CDC states: "The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that breastfeeding continue for AT LEAST 12 months, and thereafter for as long as mother and baby desire. The World Health Organization recommends continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond."
@shashaaaa You tell me. You're the one that cared enough to make a negative comment about something you obviously know nothing about. I was just saying that, if you think this baby is too old, you definitely will think my toddler is too old to be nursing, but I'm not the only mom in the world nursing a toddler. I used to have the same mindset as you. I thought it was gross to breastfeed, especially older babies, let alone toddlers, but I got the facts about it and now I think it's great!
This is awesome!! he's so stinkin' cute. I have never covered either of mine, but would have for ONE reason....if they would only nurse covered to avoid distraction. (Yeah, that wouldn't work, probably. LOL) But, DS nursed 'til 3.5 and DD is 21 months, with no plans of stopping. We'll be child led weaning again. :)
Thanks for the cute video. Check out the one my DH made of me in support of breastfeeding, back when DS when was 2. Message him that he needs to make a new one!!!
@TravelinKatydid Thank you! I checked out your video and shared it on Facebook on my NNIPL fan group. Look it up - Normalizing Nursing in Public League (The NNIPL).
Totally agree! They don't like it, it IS hard and distracting to keep a cover on... and even without a cover you can't see anything unless you are trying really hard to look.
This is ridicules! Why the mothers have to feed their babies cover up ( when I obviasly that the baby don´t like it) when the adults don´t have to do that? It´s not fair for the poor babies. BTW, sorry for my bad english.
awwww your baby looks like you :D

I hate the "it's natural" argument . . . pooping is natural too but I don't do that wherever I choose.

@Superunflour I guess I just really don't want to see that much boob in public. I don't think it should be protected by the law to the extent it is.

@14bfisher Did you see my boob in the video?? Seriously, get over it. You can't see anything and that is how 99.9% of all moms breastfeed their kids.
