I got mine when i was 14 ,Im a danceri noticed it but it never hurt until i paid attention too it a year later it was painfull and stopeed again ,Now i cant even cotrol the pain and i cant sustain anywheight in it .Im 17 now and im dealing weather to still dance ,i wish there were a way were my knee can feel normal for once and not have to deal with it:/
most you play sport, which isnt a problem for me since i no longer have the pain. i breakdance/hip hop where getting on my knee is a pain more painful than in the ass ( lol ). the pain should go away like me. i had it at 11 and im 16 now but this is when u realize the real problem is that damn lump on the bottom of your knee, i didnt appreciate kneeling this much until now. and i suggest those who doesnt have it to relax and watch tv or just take it easy through 9-14 y/o. or you'll regret it!
i just got it about a year ago and im 12 i have a question for all of you veteran basketball players with osd because i too play bball and have osgood schlatters disease does it get easier throughout the years or harder please answer
@LIBRANERF104 i got mine when i was 15, i still played basketball, lifted weights, all that stuff it was the worst for 2 3 weeks and then the pain got smaller and smaller, i basically got cured in about 2 months. but there still is a bit of pain when doing legg extensions, heavy squats and max jumps
can it make it so its harder to jump because i play basketball and i did a lot of leg workouts and they helpled. now its hard for me to get off the ground. my knee hurts as i jump and it feels like it gives out when i jump.
i play basketballl, volleyball, softball, & run track. i have this & still do it, wven tho it killlllllls! i got a brace for the other day, & it helps.
Yea having this being a football player, And a triathlete sucks i can barley run this is my second time having this and ive had it for about 2 months now i went to a professional and he gave me some stretching exercises and the pain goes away but then comes back im 14
@EliteFootballer7 Okay i went to my highschool trainers and they gave me 2 stretching exerises im in 9th grade i was in crosscountry and My pain has gone away fully..i cant really explain th streches there a little diffrent than normal hamstring exercises but you have to stop all activity or take it really easy if you feel pain then STOP it sucks trust me but its going to benifit in the long run ill send you some streches they gave me well ill message you and YOU HAVE TO BE COMMITTED INTO IT
i absolutely hate this disease, i have just got recently got it and have been to my phisio therapiist to get knee supports and everything! im only 13 and i have to stop playing my football and that is the only thing i love, i play it saturday, sunday, tuesday, thursday, friday so it is doing my headin and at school i am in the office for like half an hour just getting ICE!!!...!!!...!!! :"(
I hate this fucking pain in the knee!!! Two months ago I had osgood schlatter and I could not compete in long jump and high jump, but finally the pain has gone... I think so..
i have it, and i skateboard, got dianosed, iced my knee, felt better, went to pop a tre flip and felt the bone pop and started to hurt again. then got mueller osgood slaughter knee braces, put em on right, cant feel a thing
you say in the video that they will grow out of it....when that isn't completely true...i'm gettin ready to have surgery on mine...and i'm 32 years old and never injured any part of my knee.
hey , I'm 13 and I play volleyball. I thought I had this but I went to my orthopedist and ended up having patella femoral syndrome. now i go to PT 3 times a week I've been out of my club season and gym class for a month and I'm just getting back today. don't just go off a video , get a dr's opinion too. (:
I was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter when I was 13 and this guy doesn't know shit about what he should be telling patients. Osgood-Schlatter is caused by rapid growth in the bones that causes pulling in the tendons because they literally can't keep up. I'm a serious, basketball player and skier so I wasn't about to let this hold me down.
The best way to deal with Osgood-Schlatter is to know your limits. My doctor said that for me, my growth will even out but others aren't so lucky.
give your ligament/cartilage/bone - connection time to grow to its correct length down your shin bone.if you make it come off,it hurts, but what's worse is that it has to grow back the distance that you pulled it apart, which means it will take that much longer to heal, and you will have that much more of an uncomfortable lump in the future.think of whats going on in the joint, and you will see,all you need to do is give it a lot of time 2 heal, grow to full length, and dont kill it more along the way
im 21 now,ive had it since i was 12(i didn't lighten off.)
my little brother got it when he was12just like me,but he took it easy,hes17and he's healed up
the problem's because the cartilage connection doesnt start out as long down your knee as it needs to be for the strength that you will gain in your legs in your teen years.think of pulling up on a plastic milk cap,it comes of easy.if it connected further down the bottle,it wouldn't come off so easy.
@Droker420 If you're in the right position for a push up it puts stress on your knees. I made the mistake of locking them to try to make it a little less stress on the swollen area. Didn't work out too well.
@nick44ktown don't do any impulse or impact exercise. ifyou have a choice between walking and riding a bicycle, ride the bicycle. you can avoid the impact with every step you take.
depending on your pain, you can do wall sits. it shouldn't hurt at your age, but it will if you do too deep of bends. do wall sits while watchin tv or something for longer periods, BUT use a 135 degree angle. this will make your joint stronger while avoiding impact injury/fractures. :) best of luck to you! =D
if you're young and you have this, just back off on everything.
i used to skate and mountain bike, and do a lot of martial arts which required a lot of kicking... any how, i got it when i was like 13, and it's still noticeable now.... i'll be 22 next january. don't listen to a doctor unless he/she has had this.
it's not like other sports injuries that just heals in a month like nothing ever happened. your tibial cap has to close then harden. it just takes time. it's a natural part of growing.
Unfortunately stretching during the active phase will often make Osgood's worse, as it pulls the tendon even further away. Treating it using the 'Strickland protocol' gets you back playing sport in an average of 3 weeks - instead of the 1-2 years everyone tells you.
You must stretch the knees! Such as touching your toes while sitting, standing up and pulling the knee up to your butt, lay on your stomach and pull your knee to your butt. You must!!!!! Do each exorcise a day 3 times and hold each one fore 15 seconds. You can also wear a knee brace to support the knee cap or ice it at knight to make the swelling slow down and go away.
im 13 year old and i have it like 2 months ago only and will be cured in like 2 years... fucking illness and all becuz of skate i need to find a way to get rid of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi i'm 11 and i do baton twirlin ruined ive been doin it for bout 2 years now and this disease has ruined my life plz help or i'll be pulled out in the 4 day compitition in april. :( :(
i really need to find a way to get rid of this. ive had it for like 2 years and i am a catcher in baseball so i really dont need this disease. can you help?
You can put all of those titles before or after your name, but you don't know anything about Osgood-Schlatter. It does not go away. The prognosis isn't excellent. You are just another uneducated doctor. If you were right, why do so many people with this "disease" continue to have it the rest of their lives? I'm 37 and still have it. Just say, "I don't know." That would be amazing of you.
hi im 13 and i love to bmx, but this "disease" its kickign me back and makeing me want to stop? its a simple hit on my knee and it hurts, so thers like, no way to get rid of it or anything?
got mine when i was ten. still have it unfortunately. right now i'm using a 'tensor' brace but i'd love to start trying new things to help this.

What do you feell about the Strickland protocol? According to them, a return to activity with no isues is possible in 3 weks.
Are you familiar with it and is it reputable?
