I'm 13 years old and I've been riding quads and dirt bikes for a long time. I'm about 5'6 1/2 and 120 pounds. I ride and rm85 right now. Do you guys think this will be good for me?
Yamaha didn't go fuel injected because it didn't need to... There is a reason that this bike remains #1. I got a 2011 in red, white and black and I wouldn't trade it for anything else!
@xSAVAGEx650 Yeah, I agree. Fuel injection is a god-sent to me. I wish all bikes had that. Sure, you need a computer to tune it to account for serious power mods(instead of just buying jets), but it's not as finicky with weather and starting is much easier due to the bike having a nearly proper mixture all the time.

The only reason i would buy it, is beacouse the front fender looks different then the kx250f fender i have.....i just get sick of looking at the same front fender you know...
@dirtbikemaster190 dont get the 450 i got one and sold it later and got a 250 the 450 is if your gonna race and wanna go up bush alot. but 250 is a great nimble bike and has loads of power. trust i have had many bike and the 250 is the best of all and not selling it anytime soon. :)

Your right about four strokes being a bitch to work on but I don't care what anyone says I had two Stokes and I'm rebuilding the topend every year so I'm going to stand by the 4s they last longer and you don't have to work on it anywhere near a two stroke
@steinbonner haha, have you owned a modern 4 stroke before? They are crazy expensive to keep running! They need constant valve clearence checks at about 200 bucks (OZ) each time, plus probably a top end rebuild after only 50 or so hours of riding, and on and on it goes! At least with a 2 stroke, any numpty with a tool kit can rebuild the top end! I have an 02 KDX200 that just goes and goes, and a 2006 YZ250F. Its a nice bike but I cant handle the cost of ownership! Im moving to a gasgas 300 :)

@kxsteven4 i almost agree with you i ride a yz 125 and ive riden 250 and 450f's and my 125 is more hard to ride then my friens 450, because of the way it delivers the power. my bike is almost to light for the amout of hp it has so it feels. so a 250 might be a better choise if you can pick it up

I DO have a Chinese POS Honda clone bike, (pretty much like an SDG) and I WOOP the hell out of it and it is still holding together. I would never buy any of the Chinese junk unless you're just trying to ride the hell out of it and destroy it... Responding to your REAL question though, anything will last as long as you maintain it, I have 25+ Year old 3Wheelers that are still kicking :D
Thumbs up if you noticed them calling it a YZ250 instead of a YZ250F. That last letter is what separates a true and durable racing machine, from an over-priced bomb that lasts only 30 days.
@TheHondarider226 The four-stroke is the one I'm calling junk. As a general rule, they don't last nearly as long as two-strokes between rebuilds, and then they cost 2-5x more than a two-stroke to rebuild. The factories don't really make very much money at all selling their four-strokes, but they gain it all back in service and maintenance.
@nickwahl294 If you're stupid enough not to run any oil in it, that's true. But the fact of the matter is, a two-stroke will cost less to maintain than a four-stroke. Even if the entire top-end needs to be replaced on a two-stroke (which is statistically less-common than the high-revving, high-number-of-moving-parts four-stroke) it will cost you relatively little, and most riders can do it themselves. Four-strokes cost more in parts, and most riders will have to pay for labor as well.
@JETZcorp Bomb? I've had my Yami 250f since May of 06 now and it has only needed valves adjusted, nothing else mechanical wise. Yes i'm no barcia but i'm not your grandmother either.
@robbie2009 Well I've got a Kawasaki 120cc two-stroke from 1967 and it's still got its original piston and rings, with tons of compression. It's been ridden thoroughly every year for the past decade, but never abused and always well-maintained. They don't make 'em like they used to, apparently. And I guess that's a good thing, because although the motor is good and strong, the rest of the bike really could use some work. Like the forks wobbling in their mounts over bumps, for example. :-P

@kruppcody1 In all seriousness, I was just playing around with my initial... I DO have a Chinese POS Honda clone bike, (pretty much like an SDG) and I WOOP the hell out of it and it is still holding together. I would never buy any of the Chinese junk unless you're just trying to ride the hell out of it and destroy it... Responding to your REAL question though, anything will last as long as you maintain it, I have 25+ Year old 3Wheelers that are still kicking :D

Thumbs up if you noticed them calling it a YZ250 instead of a YZ250F. That last letter is what separates a true and durable racing machine, from an over-priced bomb that lasts only 30 days.

@TheHondarider226 The four-stroke is the one I'm calling junk. As a general rule, they don't last nearly as long as two-strokes between rebuilds, and then they cost 2-5x more than a two-stroke to rebuild. The factories don't really make very much money at all selling their four-strokes, but they gain it all back in service and maintenance.

@JETZcorp i know its carzy even if you do the rebuild yourself the parts can still run you in 800 to 1500 maybe more.

@nickwahl294 If you're stupid enough not to run any oil in it, that's true. But the fact of the matter is, a two-stroke will cost less to maintain than a four-stroke. Even if the entire top-end needs to be replaced on a two-stroke (which is statistically less-common than the high-revving, high-number-of-moving-parts four-stroke) it will cost you relatively little, and most riders can do it themselves. Four-strokes cost more in parts, and most riders will have to pay for labor as well.

@JETZcorp Bomb? I've had my Yami 250f since May of 06 now and it has only needed valves adjusted, nothing else mechanical wise. Yes i'm no barcia but i'm not your grandmother either.

@robbie2009 Well I've got a Kawasaki 120cc two-stroke from 1967 and it's still got its original piston and rings, with tons of compression. It's been ridden thoroughly every year for the past decade, but never abused and always well-maintained. They don't make 'em like they used to, apparently. And I guess that's a good thing, because although the motor is good and strong, the rest of the bike really could use some work. Like the forks wobbling in their mounts over bumps, for example. :-P
