They let the heart and soul go twice! This has been a curse until tonight! Way to go Giants! I have waited all of my life for this moment and I am turning 50 soon. One of my favorite Sports Illustrated covers featured Clark and Mark McGwire (when he was with the A's), and the cover said 'Double Trouble'. This was from the SI's 1988 baseball preview, and MLB pitchers had to fear either Clark at the 'Stick or Mac at the Coliseum. I never was a fan of the Bash Brothers, but Mark McGwire was the greatest A's player ever, and Clark was the heart and soul of the '87 team. If SF faced the Twins in the World Series, then there would be a '87 pennant at AT&T Park.

If Will Clark wanted to play for 5 more years to collect 3000 hits and get into the HOF, he could have. But family was more important to him than the HOF, so he retired Respect.

HOF of Not, when putting together an all-century team, if you want to win, you want Will Clark on your team.

Damn Right!! And for those who think that's BS. Clark left at the height of his return to the NL. In 51 games with the Cards he hit .345 with 12 HRs, 42 RBIs, 15 2Bs, and a .655 SLG%!!! In addition to 2HRs and %RBIs in the post-season. I was SO dissappointed to see him not return to see what he could have done. HE WAS BACK!!! Just like the SF days!!

Still put up MORE than respectable #s. Wish the Hall would take his knowledge and intensity for the game into consideration instead of just #s.

i remember when bonds signed with sf i was so happy to have bonds and clark. then clark left right after.

i also remember every time clark came to play in sf he was always missing. i think he might of been embarrased. this happened allll the time too. still love him tho.

Damn right bro! The THRILL!!! .650 avg. (13 for 20) Hit for the cylce in the 5 game series w/ 3 doubles, 1 triple, and

2 HRs including a grand slam that left the park in Wrigley, 8 runs, 8RBIs, 6 in Game 1 alone!

totalled a 1.200 Slg% in the series. No wonder how he basically single handedly defeated the Cubs in the NLCS.

Yeah 35 roundtrippers in 87' (the Year of the homerun) back then. Ain't shit compared to today though! LOL!

Then again, neither is the steroid/enhancement usage.

Alot of people don't realize it...but Clark has better numbers (all around) than Mattingly.

Though Donny set a helluva lot more records.

don had about 5 monster years and then spent the rest hobbled by back problems. still a borderline HOF. also, i've never seen a better defensive 1B than mattingly.

Yeah...the same as Clark. He was plauged by elbow problems (bone chips) after his 1st season when he broke it. Just imagine what could have been. Clark was no slouch defensively either. After 15 seasons at 1B he had a .992 fielding %. Unfortunately I don't think we'll see either in the Hall for a while, if ever.
