  • Thank you for these videos. I am hoping to move to Denmark and find the language hard to pick up..you make it easy to learn :)

  • tak

  • I can't pronounce your 'D'. For hedder, is it like hether in english? or pronounced with 'R' like herrer???

  • Comment removed

  • @hannah94LA the D is like Dutch, door and donkey in english, just more flat without much pressure. R and D isn't the same.

  • is that song vind op vind op vi ra a danish song?

  • an easy way to memorise gender is to only memorise the neuter words, the rest just assume are Common gender.

  • I think you meant "subject pronoun" and "object pronoun" DU og DIG. Same thing with English I /me, You/you, He/him. "I love you" but "He loves ME"

I/Jer is similar. Jeg elsker jer. I er danske etc.

So not strictly direct or indirect

  • Hi, I'm Vietnamese, trying to learn your "beautiful" language, and I just want to say jeg elsker dig, you rock!!! \m/

  • i'm really trying to learn danish, for one of my friends, you know? to try and win her over and stuff, very difficult

  • I would like to learn how to say "ja og im være doven". Is doven pronounced like "oven"?

I find it funny that New Zealand also has the plural of 'You', it is said "Yous"!

  • It's true that we in danish have genders but not as you tell that "en mus" er feminin. The gender "en" is "fælleskøn" and "et" is "intetkøn".

  • the english word "you" is "actually" plural as well, but no one says the singular thou anymore though....

  • this woman is as strange as her look

  • i love the way you teach hehe! :):)

  • teech me daynish, goth girl! Ditte, i sub u

  • Don't woory about the lipstick, you ae doing well.

  • I have met a Danish guy who lives in Copenhagen. He speaks nearly perfect English! I am usually good with languages....though Danish is really hard. I want to learn to speak with him, even though I don't have to!

  • Holy fuck, we have genders for the nouns in Danish? :D I never knew! XD (what a lousy Dane i am... XD)

English = It's very nice that you learn people's from the world danish- if they want to learn it(:

  • @chipmunksong164 It is interesting you say this. There are not alot of Danish people, so not alot of the world speak Danish. This means that Danish people have turn the worlds languages into Danish so they can understand.

It is about time that the world learned Danish!

  • I appreciate this very much. Knowing Danish people makes me crave for knowledge of the language. I have to say that it always sounded rather angry from the lady that I've always heard speak it, but you're making it sound beautiful!

  • It's funny the way she say..: EN MUS (like crying)...

  • Greetings Ditte...!!!

  • Hi Ditte..!!! I just want to say that I like the way you are...

  • @pimenton73 ditto. Ditte is a great teacher. Down to earth and to the point. glad I found your class. Gracias! Merci, Thank You!, Hej hej

  • yes, they're called articles

  • ok i come from denmark and i speak danish

  • @TheJoaxD Thanks for the info. Corrects a misconception that I had. Do you speak other foreign languages besides English ? I am always amazed at how many foreign languages some Europeans speak.

  • You are really funny! Thanks for the lessons!

  • my boy friend is danish and i am trying so hard to learn i think i can through your videos they are really good thank you so much and i love the way you talk it so cute

    hilsen

    Mette

  • These are such a great help. I started listen to Infernal from an Ex boyfriend of mine. Then searching for their music I found Nephew here on youtube and started listening to them. So you have this silly American listening to Danish bands. Now I want to start to learn the language. so again great help. Thank you!

  • I have read that the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian languages are mutually understandable. If you speak one you can be understood in the others. Is that true ?

  • hey, a nice one! question, do you speak english or danish in Denmark?

  • i love danish! i am from sweden so it is quite easy to learn :)

  • It's funny because I'm learning Swedish and when I hear the Danish pronunciation I want to say, "No, that's wrong!" : )

Yeah, I don't like the "en" and "et", but learning articles for nouns is not as bad as having to match the adjectives to them in gender and number. That's a pain. English got rid of a lot of things like that.

One nice feature of Scandinavian language is that you don't have to worry about matching the verb with the pronoun. I like that.

  • You speak English so clearly that we forget the accent.

    Great!

    Great Danish lesson!!

    Thank you!

    I'm your fan!

  • Danskjävlar.

  • Lol. :P

  • Why cant you hold your thungs straight in your mouths while talking? It sounds like you have swallowed a squirrel just by opening your mouths.

  • hmm i dunno .. we need to use our tounge to pronounce "d" and "g"

( i know my danish sucks =_= )

  • easy to talk :)

  • My mouth is loving this language! I study russian, speak english and I'm a native spanish speaker (argentine), I've just started with danish! Sweet pronounciation!

  • so far danish has been easy for me luckily for its not as specific as german

  • Turn the lights on next time we are not owls.

  • But what if we are?

  • Thanks goth chick

  • Let me tell you guys something, we learn British english in class, not American?

  • Same in The Netherlands: we learn Oxford English, not America English.

  • jeg elkser je....or u...jer....jeg still am learning...farvel....elkser...im learning dutch so jeg hou van jou...goed dag...im into goth also...

  • u are a great teacher...u should become a pro...but i still think dansk is not that hard once one speaks a little norsk or swedish or a little dutch....im learning all of them...dankje..dank...tak...thanks etc

  • I am Dutch. Written Danish is very similar to Dutch. While I understand spoken Swedish without too much difficulty (a 5 minute weatherforcast I understood 99%) this is not true for Danish. I have a very hard time understanding spoken Danish. Written: simple. Spoken btw it is much like many Dutch dialects. Like 1 mus is als mus in many Dutch dialects. Like tid (time), hus (house) etc. Standard Dutch is actually the exception..

  • show us your boobs

  • I noticed Nordic people almost never speak British English instead they sound like Americans and they are really good at that. why?

  • A lot of the English teachers there are from America, or have learned English from an American, so they learn to speak in that particular accent [American].

  • Oh I see you're from New Zealand that's the Denmark of the Southern Hemisphere. It's that good :)

  • Yeah, we are :D

One thing I find that NZ has in common with DK is that everyone there sounds like they have a throat disease; lots of people in NZ grunt and mumble when they speak, nobody can understand each other, so both countries speak the same language: gibberish :P

  • I think most people learn American accent instead of british.

  • @sondano It's got nothing to do with teachers. It comes down to pop culture. The Nordic countries are bombarded with American pop music and films. Needless to say, teens want to learn to speak like their idols from the US. Why would they want to sound like someone from "Eastenders"

  • great lesson, and i like your hair and makeup

  • Note: Danish is actually not considered to be one of the hardest languages in the world by any measure. However, because it's rather hard to grasp the pronunciation of the language, it definitely takes a lot longer for a child to learn it. (I read a couple months ago that at the age of 15 months, most Croatian children knew around 200 words, most Danish children knew about 80 words. This is not because Danish people are inherently retarded, it's because it's hard to make sense out of the sounds.

  • LOL yeah Danish people are not inherently retarded -- to say the least. After all they've created one of the best countries on the planet. While Croatians...well let's not get there

  • @sondano Oo How can we be retarded when we have created the most difficult language in the world... ;) You need skills to do that

  • hehe you're the best :3

  • Hej :). I'm a Vietnamese. I wanted to learn Danish the long time ago. And today I find your video. I'm glad. I want to say: "mange tak!"

  • You can change your keyboard settings to have the special characters. Look in Control Panel if you're on windows and Preferences if you're on linux. You have to learn where the keys are though, so if you're gonna type danish long term, i recommend putting stickers over the keys with the special vowels written on them. the keyboard layout in english and danish is for the most part very similar. Good luck, i'm learning as well.

  • are Danish and Norwegian the same language?

  • Not the same, but they are closely related.

  • But still not the same. They are used in two different countries.

  • you mean those 3 letters but they used to be in the english language before the norman invasion

  • I found your videos so interesting and easy to absorb, and kept on following though I dont know when my next time in Denmark would be :)

  • aa = å

    ae = æ

    o = ø

    :D

  • hehe du mener oe = Ø :-)

  • ØJ.... mange tak!!!!! :-D

  • DANSK SUGER!! Norsk Er Bedre :P

  • Norsk har æ, ø, og å også! Svensk også har å, med ikke æ og ø.

Kan du undervise mig stød? Jeg kan høre at du bruger stød.

Kan man sige "i" i stedet for "jer"?

  • You have to explain to me what you mean by "stød"????

i and jer...... i is unspecified, for ex.: "What are you (i) doing?"....... "I want to be with you (jer) in what you are doing"......

It is very hard to explain, but the only "rule" I can give you is that "i" is unspecified, whereas "jer" is direct and more specified.

  • "stød" or "glotal stop" is the way we often

cut off words abruptly by closing off down our throats - very difficult to get right for most foreigners.

But you actually find this in some parts of England as well. Even around London

    ( Cockney for instance )

  • You are clearly not qualified to teach Danish. Just 'cause you speak it doesn't mean you can teach it. You should really learn about Danish grammar, you know how to say something but not why you say it. Seriously, you don't have a clue. And why do you think Danish is the hardest language in the world? Have you tried learning them all?

  • First off, no reason to come along as a retardedly annoying prat. Learning about Danish grammar is fairly simple, because except for a few things, everything is case dependent.

    [noun]erne/rne = definite [noun], plural.)

nouns ending on a vowel will not have an e added.

This covers EVERYTHING that is gramatically solid about nouns in Danish.

  • Er, silly youtube, my comment was in response to some Irish bugger complaining and whining at you. It just...somehow decided not to put it there? :<

  • haha, navneordenes køn - en /et, du ved.

(fælleskøn( han/hun/den) vs. intetkøn (det) )

  • Det ved jeg. :-)

    Men tak.

    Men fint.

  • thanks for doing this tutorial.

i'll try to learn some danish using this tutorial :)

  • Aww, thank you - I'm so happy to hear that.

  • oh my god.

thats amazing, I have a danish friend and I bought some cds to learn to speak Danish since I am going to visit her in July, but its so much easier to see your mouth moving, you are right about using the whole mouth. Thanks for being so patient! Good job

  • Very helpful..thank you. Just made friends with a Danish couple and it'll be great to be able to at least try and speak a little Danish. I think you're great..keep up the good work !

  • Wow, thank you so much, I really appreciate it. xD

  • Thank you. It's really great that someone uses their time to help others learn.

  • I'm SO glad to hear that, tak!

  • it's all very helpful, mange tak!

  • thanks very much for this.. very helpful...

  • Thanx. :-)

  • uhm.... yea. Ok.... ehm....

Tak, du må også have en god aften. :-)

  • Yeah, I know - but so does Swedish in Danish ears. Men tack sä mycka! Trevligt att du villa kommentera. (My swedish sucks)

  • when you look at the danish language from the american perspective, danish is like almost impossible to learn!!

gosh i'm just glad to be from denmark.

  • Hahahaha, thank you.

  • If you want to make a video, you should. There are always going to be people that constantly criticize others. If you make a video, just do the best you can.I'll be the first to give it 5 stars just because I know that you sincerely tried your best.I'm sure that I'm not the only person that feels this way.:-)

  • you're so right!

  • AGREEED!

So, Sheenasasheenasa - don't be afraid! WE will support you!
