  • Robbens deep man! I can tell he took private! lessons man! ;.D

  • teh bass is pretty much non existing but still very groovy and Robben is great as always.

  • fake and gay

  • genius............i love this man

  • Robben is one of those geniuses who OWNS the tone - be it a dry clean tone or a reverb-y overdriven one. I could listen to him playing this stuff for hours.

  • didnt realise john mayer time travelled to the 80s and played a jazz show

  • I don't get this, I just saw a 86 video concert in Montreux on TV with Miles and I couldn't believe I never had seen the lead guitarist before who was just unbelievable... Now I realize it seems this guy was said by miles davis to be one of the best if not the best lead guitarist, he had plaid with and he chose to sing and play (badly) blues songs... I very much do not get it. Why force into something your not good at when you're so talented in something else.

  • @Matellois1996 I would guess it's because Robben is driven to create his own music, instead of only doing the sideman thing and supporting someone else. Even though he has a strong jazz influence, he has always been a blues guitarist at the core.

  • Robben Ford at his most Scofield, playing and tonewise, I would have confused if I didn't know. Thanks for posting

  • he looks like Eric Roberts :-)

  • YES!!

  • If you want an extra couple million views you should just change the title to "Amazing John Mayer Jazz Solo... RARE!!" That'd probably do it... and half the people would never even know, lol.

  • @nateandguitar Hahaha! Thanks for the laugh, I needed that.

  • this is the real deal here but not the correct title

  • John Mayer with a Fender RF .... this is "where the light was" ...

  • john mayer must have seen this back in the day and thought " hummm , that´s what i´ll look like when i grow up" :)

    Awesome Robben !

  • @riktok hahahah yes!

  • I think he quotes "America" by Leonard Bernstein (West side story, and maybe the exact title is non America)

  • @gia5 He DOES quote it -- and TWICE!

  • its that Bill Evans on the second sax'

  • @jazzlefty: Yes it is.

  • Great 00:19 quote L. Bernstein!!!!

  • wasn't that Fender called the 'Esprit' first?

  • definitely quotes the lion king at 0:18.

  • @smauro3 LOL, nice catch.

  • @smauro3 Well, actually he's quoting west side story. The lion king did not come out until 1994.

  • @Kapteinar word

  • Sweet Guitar. I mean SWEEEEET. I wish they still made them.

  • Whats the guitar? Framus?

  • @bassetrox It's the old Robben Ford model from Fender.

  • @bassetrox The guitar is the Fender Robben Ford model

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, can definitely see the similarity to Sco, although Robben looks a bit inhibited.

  • Great solo. Tone reminds me a little of Scofield. Nice stuff.
