I'm quite certain this video is the reverse of a puffer depuffing. I have a pet porcupine puffer, looks like he is de puffing in reverse in this video rather than puffing up. They don't make that coughing sort of gesture when they puff up but do when they de puff because they expel water out in bursts.

@ProductEgo Interesting theory but I can guarantee this is genuine. As you can see the bubbles are floating up and the fish are swimming forward. If it was reversed the bubbles would be sinking and the fish would swim backwards.

Its not a good thing when puffer fishes puff. It is very bad for their heart as it speeds it right up. It looks like it is convulsing because it is taking in a lot of water. They do it when extremely frightened. Some breeds of fish can only do it around seven times before their hearts give up. DONT TRY TO PUFF UP A PUFFER FISH

@jimmy12889 They would only do that from severe stress which could endanger any fish. When they puff up voluntarily, it dose not hurt them at all. They will occasionally do it just to pass food such as crabs which are often covered with points and spines.

Geezz ! this thing is so ugly. I can understand if someone has it as a pet, but people eat it as well. It's called fugu in japan and it has to be processed properly for human consumption. One small error in preparation and it can kill you in 24 hrs, causing paralysis, nausea and asphixiation.
