I'm a big fan of Ustad ji, this is a very rare and yet unique master piece sung by one of the finest khayal singer. I have no words to describe how beautifull this thumri is, MashAllah. Thank you very much for sharing
not light raags per se but Marwa, Todi, Darbari, Komal Rishabh Asavari, Malkauns, Lalit were his forte. But he was known to rarely and beauifully render light raagas like Jaijaiwanti ( we do have a clipping) , Kirwani and others and even Thumris .
his magic touch percolates even in Thumris! The Thumri is transformed into pure magic! The Raaga and the composition and the flavor through his great voice...the effect cannot be explained in words! WHY are there no comments on this rare video?

I am a DIE HARD fan of Khansaheb. His music plays in the deepest level of my mind! I grew up with his music. I am a classical Tabla player but Khansaheb's music is like breath. He is indespensable in the field of Indian music. His music is as natural to me as the wind blowing or the waves of the ocean. Please do post any other clips of his if you have them. @rc0972 It is amazing I am hearing Ustad Amir Khan saheb sing a thumri for the first time. I think Khan saheb did a disservice by not singing thumris - his austere rendering would have added a dimension to Thumri ang.
WHAT!! THIS IS RARE! AND I REPEAT RARE!!!! Ustad Amir Khan was NOT a Thumri man, he was the king of Khayal but he DID sing Thumri in private and rarely. THANKS A MILLION!!
Amir khan Sahib didnt sing thumri ang because he considered Bade ghulam ali khan sahib a greater exponent. Khan sahib was quite open of this, there will never be another amir khan sahib.
