I have to say that of all the great erotic movie scenes that I've watched, this is by far my most favorite scene in this whole movie! The seduction between Faye Dunaway and Steven McQueen is just so...need I say more? I also love the music in this movie! The perfect jazzy touch to fit this beautiful scene! :)
I love this movie and like the 1999 remake, but one thing I'm extremely glad about is that the remake did not attempt to recreate this scene. It wouldn't have been possible to improve on the timing, the tension and smoldering 'who's getting who' that McQueen/Dunaway had going on throughout the game. It's a classic moment in seduction.
Thank you for sharing this, Arriegua1. This is considered by many to be one of the ten greatest scenes in American film history. It was McQueen's first non-cowboy role and a follow-up for Faye after Bonnie and Clyde. I went to college with Faye; she dated my roommate. Thank you again......."Go Gators!"
You should do your research before commenting on film history. Ever hear of The Great Escape? Steve McQueen was in that seminal WW2 film. Not to mention Hell is For Heroes, The War Lover and The Blob. All of which predate the Thomas Crown Affair and none of which are westerns.
Sorry my friend - Cowboy was used to differentiate between action films and drama in a coat and tie. Methinks pedkmards takes one's self far too seriously.
So for the record, when it comes to discussing a.) Film history and cinema, which is the highest form of art. And b.) Correct use of the English language - then yes, toscanini9 I do take things seriously.
And my youtube name is 'peckmard' not 'pedkmard'. It's that kind of attention to detail which underlines your inherent ignorance.
1. A hired man, especially in the western United States, who tends cattle... 2. An adventurous hero. 3. Slang A reckless person, such as a driver, pilot, or manager, who ignores potential risks.
If you had a pair of PhD's and a famiily that included a CEO of a major studio and a producer with films in the AFI 100, someone might pay attention to you. Cinema is NOT the highest form of art. Sir, you are both immature and boring; end of discussion.
Actually, toscanini9, I have a BA and MA in film and a PHD in English Literature, so I do consider myself qualified to debate with some authority the subject at hand. I am also an award winning editor. The achievements of my family, who include both BAFTA award winning and Academy Award nominated producers and production designers have no merit here.
And I reiterate, even with your new definition of the term 'cowboy', it still does not apply in your original context.
Last tournament I was in, I tried listening to this background music on headphones, thinking it would improve my game. Of course, I couldn't anticipate that my opponent would be a fat middle aged Russian with beard stubble, who kept looking at me oddly when I was seductively stroking my chin between moves.
that's what i'm talking about!!!!! this is a very seductive scene..... people forgot about this....they don;t have enogh time.....too bad.this is the beauty of a relantionship....try toseduce your partner every day and your life will be change...before you know.
Wow, that was so sophisticated and seductive. I was born in the wrong era. This is how it should be, done, slow and intense not just ripping each others clothes off.
The very definition of cool missing in most films today. The Michel Legrand soundtrack has as much dialog as the characters played by McQueen and Dunaway...all three deliver their lines with brilliance and style; very memorable.
Just saw this movie tonight on TCM and it has to be one of the best romantic scenes in a movie ever. The newer version of this film just doesn't even come close to this classy original. Some things CAN'T be improved upon.
I can't believe this movie is 40 years old!!! But the chemistry still sizzles between these two every time it's replayed. One of the sexiest scenes and best kisses ever in movies. And they stayed vertical the entire time!!
Yep , they knew how to make good movies back then. That is some great chemistry. A 5 minute chess scene with out any spoken words is simply amazing. Their bodies did all the talking.
no actors nowadays could pull that off! i would be dead of boredom if anyone else did that! it's erotic and sexy minus the sex! nowadays, all actors want to do is sex scene!
McQueen and Dunaway - Hollywood Gold! They don't make them like that anymore. Funny thing is she thought he was a "conceited bastard" and he said "I don't ever want to work with done fade away again" his pet name for her. They couldn't stand each other - but were professional enough to pull this scene off - sparks flying, chemistry - all of it (with excellent direction mind you). This director knew EXACTLY what he wanted. And lucky us - he got it and then some. Ahh, got to love 'em.
She thought he was a chauvanist, considered women "play things" - apparently he did. These were his Bad Boy days. Done Fade Away is a clever play on Faye's name (Faye Dunaway). They were totally committed to their craft; young, ambitious, and talented.
LOL , I didn't know that little tid bit. From the looks of the scene i'd think they were in love ( or in lust depending on the viewer) with each other. I guess they were extremely good at their craft.
When this movie was remade with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo I couldn't believe it left this scene out. Now I understand why. No way could this scene have been duplicated. One of the sexiest scenes ever.
She is sooo not playing fair.

cow⋅boy noun
1. a man who herds and tends cattle on a ranch, esp. in the western U.S., and who traditionally goes about most of his work on horseback.

In the history of the English language, both past and present, the term cowboy never has and never will be used to differentiate between
action films and drama in a coat and tie.
