@variableobject its in the timing. its not something you think about you have to feel it. just listen to it live and acoustic and then play it yourself, dont think about it just listen to it, youll know when you got down when your suddenly struck with this urge to bobb your head or tap your foot.

It sounds like you put an extra E note at the end of the infro riff. In the chorus Dave doesn't mute the D string, rather he plays the F and E note the whole time. Very good song and nice picking!

Perhaps since I've been teaching myself for years, I'm horrible at picking individual strings erm.. with the pick. So I play this with 100% finger work but I wish I could pick it out like this because the sound comes out much more defined.
