You can buy the Bram Tchaikovsky Strange Man Changed Man CD with bonus tracks on the Heavy Metal Kids Website. Can't put the link here as youtube blocks it but just search and you will find it.
I saw this show as well. I remember there was a segment where Bram asks the makers of the show not to edit what he's going to say next... He proceeds to dedicate the song to someone and then plays "Lady From The USA".
Wonderful. I am about to release some rare live audio from the band. Check out 'Lochem Festival' on Facebook. Unfortunately the original master cannot be found at the Don K. archives. Does anyone know of a master copy?
@zoppax Thanks for your comment. Strange, but I'm sure they just can't be looking hard enough at DKRC ~ unless some former intern shows up with it on ebay lets hope that it turns up.
I've been waiting a long time to see a live bt video. Excellent. The first cd is one of my favorites - mostly great songs, including these two, which start it off.
@sirdarklust Wow. I only remember that I remember because I had taped it when it was on.
Do you happen to recall what else they played?
Btw... Many thanks to Don Kirshner for all that he did for pop music including the show that this act got a chance on. Don passed away on Monday. R.I.P.
@quieterrps I can't tell you the exact songs. It was one of those shows where one group got a lot of airtime. In this case Bram. I already had the Strange Man LP, and that made me enjoy this show all the more.
Have 3 of his lps from back in the day. Still sounds good. Also, remember seeing him on maybe a show called "In Concert" and maybe Don Kirshner's Rock Concert?
@weiss1432 This would be the latter, Don Kirchner's. Between those three album, which are likely the ones I have as well, you can't fault their efforts ~ I think they should have been more successful. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I always loved Strange Man..., and Mr President is another great song. I know Bram was a producer in the '80s - a band called Runestaff (from Norfolk?) made an album with him at the helm. Do you know if he's still producing?
@GreenerHill Glad that could enjoy this. I'm surprised that this has been watched nearly as much as the Ray Charles footage I've posted. Would love to have caught them back in the day.
As far as any other productions that Bram has worked on, I'm not sure, but it's likely that someone will offer up any info. As far as the band Dust, which annysvan speaks of ~ I read recently that Marc Bell (Ramone) played in a band called Dust and I was curious if it was the same act.
@quieterrps That's where it all began. Once upon a time in small town east coast area of 1960's England there lived tribes of teenage adolescents who were hungry for recognition of their musical talent. Many tried and of the few who succeeded " Dust " emerged from the inner circle of starry-eyed wanderers. Four fired up wired up rocksters, one of whom was none other than Peter Mr. Bram Tchaikovsky.
@annysvan Thanks for the information. I suppose that would be a find then! I am relieved to hear that Dust was not a post-Bram off-Broadway musical! Cheers!
Micky Broadbent I was in love with you but I didn't tell anyone at the time. A married girl with 4 kids! I'd a been run out a-town back then!! Glad I found this! You still rock me!!
Wow...I still can't get over finding this! Strange Man Changed Man is probably one of the greatest pure pop albums ever released....just listening to the first opening tracks still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. An absolute gem of a record and one that is so underappreciated...I'm absolutely delighted to finally see some actual footage of the guy...such a shame that there's so little out there. Now, if we can somehow find the "Midnight Special" appearance.., hint hint hint...anyone?
FINALLY!!!!! I KNEW someone would somehow find this and post it..........God forbid I've been looking for this fer I dunno HOW many years....again you wonderful punters on theTube come thru yet again!
Thank you very much quieterrps for put on the web something from BRAM TCHAIKOVSKY. They were really great. I love their sound and the band of course but never before I got the chance to see them on stage. In Argentina the company just edited on 1979 or 1980 just a cassette from them. The only one I think. Greetings.
Thank you so much for putting this up ! Love it ! Now to see if someone will upload Bram's appearance on Midnight Special in 79. Bram where are you ? You still have fans who care.
@SWEETFA24 Reading in the Midnight Special guide book, it says they performed Girl Of My Dreams and Lady From The U.S.A., so I'd like to see this as well. I'd also like to know what else they performed on this show but this is all I caught back then.
Thanks for posting this!!! It's fun to finally see some live cuts of BT. (I check for that every once in a while.) Surprised given the harmonies on the studio work that Peter's off pitch so much. Not that I mind, mind you. :)
@blackxred Glad you enjoyed it. Having had this footage long before I got the album, this is the version ingrained in my brain, so I don't really notice such flaws as much. ; ) They probably did Girl Of My Dreams on the show as well but I was lucky that I even caught this back then!
@blackxred Watching it again--with headphones this time--strikes me that the harmonies aren't loud enough. I can hear Broadbent's voice a bit now w/ headphones on but still can't hear the other guitarist (who?).
The audience is kind of funny in some of these old live cuts. They often don't know what to make of a band that didn't sound like Foreigner or whatever else was on the radio at the time and stand there like bumps on logs.
@blackxred The video effect I used in the start to smooth the rough start (as well as to satisfy whatever geek there is in me!) reminds me of the view from the classic Vincent Price movie. ( "h-e-e-e-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-p-p-p-m-m-e-e-e-e-!!!") : )
Great artist. Still have the albums. Dig the red Marshalls.

Bram was a cool little power pop band who wore their Who influence on their sleeves. Almost forgot how good they were. Thanks for the post.
