Ultrasonic Humidfier made by Sunbeam, bought it on ebay for about $25. Been running every 2 hours for about 8mins almost a year now. Keep it cleaned and maintained, hopefully it'll run for years to come.
I have a peice of glass over the front half of the lid which I leave 1 to 2" gap for some air and this keeps the front viewing glass clear from condensation. Humidity in the tank is about 80-90%. Air tight wouldn't be the best thing for a tank but the top is about 80% covered. Thanks
Oh okay, that sounds pretty smart. One of the reasons why I asked is that I got this tank from a friend, for free, which was just unspeakably cool for me.(I'm broke, and a college student) Its the largest tank I've ever had. Its a Zilla Critter cage, which was actually designed for reptiles. So it was very aired and I have been modifying it to work as a terrarium. But I'm about 100% positive that I can't make it completely air tight. So it's good that air tight is not what it should be. haha
Hey Pickman, The best way is to play around with it so that your tank stays above 80% humidity. This varies for everyone depending on their size of tank, number of plants, substrate, etc. For example I have mine set on a timer to come on about 7 mins every two hours during the day time and off at night. (I also have a small open vent area which will change up the variables) Once the lights are off misting isn't really necessary since humidity stays up but it'll drop from the heat off the lights.
hey im working on my own Vivarium but im having a lil trouble with misting should i have it on low for most of the day or... what i have it to right now is it gos on for a mint evey 4 hours "on high " just enough time to fill the whole tank with fog ... is that ok or is that too much
" im gunna be puting dart frogs in it" ... "yellow backs"
