  • This Tool is really awesome.

  • @Susan Moskwa

I have website and targeting in United States. Now, I want to target globally. So, I am going to set unlisted in settings. So, Does it really matter for my organic ranking which is associated to United States?

My entire website is targeting all countries with English language. I was thinking that to UN-Check radio button is more powerful than set unlisted.

    What you think about it?

  • thanks for the video

  • por qué no lo ponés en castellano así te entiendo?

  • Google this (Google Webmaster Tools)

    Then go to

To set a geographic target: 1. On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want. 2.Under Site configuration, click Settings. 3.In the Geographic target section, select the option you want.

  • thank you .. This information is very enlightening me ....

  • What if I wanted to target Marin County, or the San Francisco Bay Area?

  • Assuming I want to target states, cities in USA, do I have to create subdomains for each target and verify each one of them in webmaster tools as a separate entity? Meaning over 100 subdomains?

  • Thank you Susan this is great information love it!

  • Susan: Thanks for the "free course". This should help in trying to help struggling small businesses here in Atlanta,GA survive the "economic collapse" I hope. I do this as an unpaid volunteer to help out in my community. Peace Jack in Georgia :-)

  • shehnaz@yellowspringbokgroup.co.uk

  • yes it doesn't actually say how/where

  • But how about if a hotel has a TLD SI (Slovenia) and the server is located in Slovenia and dont wan't it to be relevant JUST to french people? Well in our country people are used to just type in google.com, they dont bother to type google.si. Meaning that if they type in the name of the hotel in google.si its one of the first, if they type it in google.com its somewhere on the 6th page, altho the ones before it are just randomly mentioned on forums or just totaly irelevant and are a part of text

  • Thank you very much. I loved it!

  • I like This.

  • wtf , she wasted our time ... she talked the same topic for 3mintues .... huuuuuu

  • Thanks for educating me

  • Google Webmaster Tools

  • ok, i am confused and i hope someones clear the air for me?

My site got tutorials which don't target to a specific location. I wish to have good traffic to my website, but it says if i dont choose a location to target, traffic to my website will be less. As i said before my site dont target users of any specific location, so in order to get good traffic wat should i do?. specify the geographic location to my country or stay without mentioning anything?

  • @sat002 Watch the video again and listen to the bit where she says "what if I do not want to geo-target".

    1 - choose a non-geographic TLD (.com, .org etc - as appropriate)

2 - do not set up geo-targeting in the Google WM tools

Pretty simple really - and all covered nicely in the video.

  • @icyfellblade

ya ur right, i had a geographical target for a week with my webmaster tool and u know wat?

My traffic got reduced and no visits at all to my website, then again i unchecked it and it took a month or so for me to get back the usual traffic i use to get to my website before. :)

  • yea, she's def. geek-hot!

  • WHY DOES SHE LOOKS FRENCH?

  • Susan, you have overdone yourself :).

  • spanishh please

  • Great video, although I wish Susan would have also stated what the advantages/disadvantages are of using either a subdomain or subfolder for languages! If anyone has any insights on this matter, please share!

  • Where the heck is the tool?

  • @rjwfranssen Google Webmaster Tools

  • @rjwfranssen it's located in google webmaster tools.

  • @rjwfranssen

Go to your Google Webmaster Tool, select the website, select Site Configuration, Select Settings.

  • It is now clear how to geo-target sub-folders. Thank you, Susan.

  • nope...I like her ...

  • Great video Susan, much appreciated.

  • Got it! some useful info is here :

Site configuration > Settings > Geographic target

  • very nice and useful ....

however how do i do that? where do i go? how to submit the web-site for geo targeting?

  • I wish we could have the same options by city/state. For instance, we develop custom software in Miami. I wish Miami-based searchers would see us on the map w/o searching "Miami" or "33173." That is all.

  • I'm in South Africa, and I wish for the same thing. I want Western Cape searchers to see my website higher up than Gauteng users. :P

  • Somebody had successful results using this technique?

How long it takes to make it work?

  • However I think a problem occurs when Google automatically sets a geographic target for region-specific domains. For instance Google assumes sites with [.me] should only be targeted at Montenegro, but this may not always be the case and as far as I know there is no way to remove this default association.

  • This video is very educational.

  • Thanks google :)

  • yjamk you very much

  • i got some questions, going to find that discussion group

  • Good idea, but did I miss the part were she told us how to Set a geographic target for my website?

  • Go to Google Webmasters>Choose your site>Click on Tools>Click on Set Geographic Target :-)

  • @michael0845 hahaha I think I missed that too... but luckily I've figured that part out a year ago.

  • man thnks google i got the idea. heheh hehe hehe hehe.. now my target visitor only ca , us, uk nd au ,,, hehe hehe. i m not mad. hehe

  • I think Google should do this king of interesting videos in Spanish too, because these ones are useful (I mean, the videos).

  • Hi,

At least she speaks very clearly and nicely and you can understand her quite well, if you pay a bit of attention. In fact, she is the Googler I can understand better when I listen to their videos or chat. Susan Moskwa: 10 points!

  • i didn't get it... =(

  • google rules :D

  • five minutes without standard presentation in power point?

  • I'm glad to see that my videos are not the only ones that has no thumbnails for a few hours after it is uploaded. I see Google got the same glitch.
