I enjoyed every incarnation of The Doctor except for Colin Baker. Tom Baker remains my all time favorite, with Christopher Eccleston as my 2nd favorite. To me, the jury's still out on Matt Smith.
I love each doctor... each had his own unique charm, and quirks... I wish Chris Eccleston embraced the series more because I would have liked to see at least one more season with him in it!!! I love David, I love Matt, I love 'em all!!!
Even though I have only seen Eccleston, Tennant and Smith's episodes, I know I am a true fan. I'm not just a Doctor Who fan, I'm a second generation Whovian. My father has watched the series since it's early days. He has seen every Doctor and knows the show well. I became a fan because of him.
@pigscanfly522 That is almost true but Peter Davidson 5th was younger then Colin Baker 6th and Jon Pertwee 3rd was a year older then Patrick Troughton 2nd
@EroStrom I agree but the 3rd was exelent too,and we need to cut the eleventh doctor some slack. Now I know he broak our hearts by taking the tenth doctor,But thats just the way the show works. :)
@wanderer711 And they can't recast why? Before you say it Richard Hurndall (The Five Doctors) played the FIRST Doctor quite well & resembled Hartnell too.
@Lazyike67 I agree, he did an excellent job. It actually wouldn't be hard for Hartnell. I have noticed several older actors who do look like him. But Pertwee would be difficult. Not sure about Troughton though. I wonder if people would accept actors in their places, understand why, and still embrace the Meaning of the Episode(s)
@wanderer711 They could do an Animated 11 doctors special I think more fans would be accepting of that and then for a live action special use Doctor's 4-11 and stock footage of 1-3 and perhaps explain they are trapped in a time vortex or something
@Hadra568 You ARE aware there have been TWO "First" Doctors in the original series? William Hartnell & Richard Hurndall (The Five Doctors) . So want to revisit your comment?

@Gannon191 well when ur done with tenant and smith do it cus the old show is great been watching it since before the show got revamped just trying to help een tho at the same time im being an ass
@wanderer711 yup BUT all the doctors are good its just sad how the bbc gave them shit because for the longest time they only had a few days to do each episode and one for shooting so they had to do everything in one go and heartnell had one shot to read his lines and so he messed up alot but he still twisted em to his advantage and that's a good acting skill
@diehippie9000 :) Thank you, I didn't know that about BBCs production blunders back then. It's too bad. they taped over all the older episodes. Would have loved to have seen all of the Hartnell era. It seems as he goes on the Doctor gets Younger and Less Cranky.

@characteravatar He used to say that Baker was his favourite though. And that's why he wears a scarf in the Christmas Special he first appeared. Check it! But the 10th with the 5th's daughter? Cool!!!!
Uhh I don't remember 8th(Paul McGann) having any episodes at all let alone either of those 2 companions. the companion he did have (Daphne Ashbrook) wasnt even shown. (and I didn't care for that movie either, but at least they put a brit in the role. if it had been american actor, i expect there would've been a riot.)
@turbopokey He didn't. There was talk about it. He was well received as The 8th Doctor, but it was the Movie that killed him. (Bloody Americans.. oh wait.. I am one.. I swear, some of my fellow country members have no taste)
@ningadude98 actually if you rewatch the episode it is clearly stated in his condition the doctor couldn't regenerate if he died that was it the poison River gave him prevented him from using a regeneration so yes River gave him her regenerations and as River is a human with timelord dna it is unclear how many regenerations River was limited to or how many she used, we know she used atleast 3 regenerations on her own but again as River is a hybred of sorts it is unclear.
@brandoman79 ouch.. my head hurts now.. and who knows. there's never been a human/timelord hybrid before. Maybe the Doctors affinity for us (poor guy) has to do with Evolution of his own people. Unlimited Regens perhaps?
I feel sad when it gets to Colin Baker's bit. He gave the job so much devotion and the BBC gave him so little in return. What upsets me most is that most of his era consists of audio plays.
On a more positive note, Tom Baker's bit was sweet.
Because his films strayed from the original material. Thus declared non-canon or one of many alternate Doctors (I.e. Trevor Martin, Rowan Atkinson, David Warner, etc)
@JohnOlly1965 because it isnt connected to the show. Do a quick plot search on it and it wont take you long to realize the Dr. Who movies couldnt be farther from the show and still retain elements from it.

The Doctor only has two regenerations left, The Council of Time Lords where the only ones that could grant a new full set of regenerations (They offered such to The Master during The Five Doctors if he helped The Doctor, it's unknown whether said regenerations where ever granted). So it will be interesting to see what happens.
@SnJester The Council of Time Lords no longer exists - the Doctor is the last Time Lord. He can choose to regenerate as many times as he wants to. In an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures the Doctor stated that he could regenerate over 500 times.
@57DW Canonically speaking that would have been a lie on the doctors behalf.
It's been stated in multiple occasions in multiple episodes that a timelord only has thirteen lives
Yes River gave up all of hers to save The Doctor, Yes the council no longer exists but I was stating what has been laid out in the classic stories (As well as the 8th Doctors movie)
@SnJester The 13 regenerations rule has never been mentioned in the new series, so it's probably been abandoned. The show will obviously continue past 13 regenerations if it's popular. I can't imagine the doctor being killed and not regenerating.
@SnJester the writers can get around it two ways, besides the books we have no televised adventures of the Doctor's adventures between his 8th and 9th regenerations because of the Time War we don't know if the Council gave the doctor more regenerations, the number of 12 was made law by Rasilon(sp) during his original Presidency a Time Lord could regenerate unlimited times he made the ruling to limit it. The Doctor is an ex President we don't know if being a former President allows him extra.
@rockohulkdoctorwho I know when they were on TV. Technically McCoy was the Doctor from 1987-1996 (when McCoy regenerated) and McGann was the Doctor from 1996 - 2005. 9 years each. There were audio books and other things which are considered canon. Therefore they are technically the longest serving Doctors, while Tom Baker is longest serving televised Doctor.
@j0sheed00d The actors? no. Tom baker, the 4th, is still around I am certain. He's larger and has less colour in his hair but is still alive and kicking!
@rockohulkdoctorwho If you want to be technical, I'm pretty sure McCoy (7th Doctor) held the position for slightly longer than McGann - but only by a couple of months or so.
@rockohulkdoctorwho Again, as I stated before, Regardless of the TV movie, McGann was the incumbent Doctor from after it aired til Eccelston turned upon screen. Not everyone accepts what on TV only.
@rockohulkdoctorwho To you they're crap, but for others (myself included) they're not crap. Mind you if it wern't for Doctor Who Magazine, Big Finish Productions, Virgin, and BBC Books, we wouldn've have 9-11, The Sarah Jane Adventures & (unfortunately) Torchwood. These were/are the show's life support
@rockohulkdoctorwho If you don't like the vid or my listing of Doctors then don't bother replying back and move on. No need to be an asshat about it.
@SuperWolsey And to you it's unfortunate that we have Torchwood, but for others (myself included) it's not unfortunate. I am a fan of the comics, the books, and all the on TV productions including spin offs.
@rockohulkdoctorwho Actually a lot of the radio stories, which are canon and included in the history of the TV show, are 8th doctor and were made this century not in 1996&1997.
The 8th doctor did play a much larger role than the 9th in the main story line. 9th doctor WAS the shortest incarnation, discounting the pre-1996 Peter Cushing movies which are not canon.
@rockohulkdoctorwho 8th Doctor - 1996-Time War (Event date yet unknown but sometime between 1999-2005) 9th Doctor - Time War (Or sometime after) - 2005...
the 8th Doctor was the OFFICIAL Doctor from 1996 - 2004, making him the longest serving incarnation to date despite having the shortest screen-time of any incarnation to date also. Aside from just one TV movie, the 8th Doctor appeared in a large number of novels and audio adventures.
@doctorjade8th Im aware of that. Question is are you aware that there are others who consider Big Finish, DWM, & the novels his era more that just the TV movie?
Picture at 1:36 doesn't count. This was a publicity shot for the spin-off episode "THE FIVE DOCTORS" from 1983, by which time William Hartnell was well dead, so the actor playing him is a lookalike, and Tom Baker is actually a waxwork dummy! (It really is, look closely!)
@airmilefull I am sorry but I cannot understand your reasoning.
Only Tom Baker Dr4, played him with little previous acting record. William Hartnell Dr1, made about 70 films. All the others had long acting records before being the Doctor. Please explain....
I agree with you that Paul McGann Dr8, only made a short film. So, Peter Cushing is twice as qualified a Doctor because he made 2 cinema films.
Matt Smith Dr11, did a lot of TV and theatre acting before becoming Doctor. What are you making up?
@TheUncleBilly Oh God, I am so sorry. I KNOW who airmilefull is (sadly, as she's bonkers). Let me explain. 6 played someone else in the orginial show before getting the part of the Doctor.
8 was only in the film.
9 is the third actor to play 9, but the other two were either sketches or never made it somehow (i forget the circumstances, but I blieve it says this on IMDB)
i have NO idea what she means about 11 but she DID tell me once she thought he'd been the Doctor twice. (Told you she's mad)
@TheUncleBilly Ah but, in McGann's credit, his Doctor was a time lord and Cushing's 'Dr' was human. Plus his TARDIS interior was completely different and Cushing is counted by the BBC as unofficial anyway.
3:10 to the end,all eleven together was just awesome. Even though it was a cartoon picture, with the music was a fitting tribute. Good job,and Thank you!
No.1- The grumpy old man No.2- The mad man in a fur coat and a recorder No.3- The nice one No.4- The mad one with the jelly babies and the scarf (My favourite) No.5- The cricketier No.6- The one with no dress sence No.7- The umbrella holder No.8- The ginger one No.9- Big ears No.10- The Cool one No.11- The goofy one

The Doctor only has two regenerations left, The Council of Time Lords where the only ones that could grant a new full set of regenerations (They offered such to The Master during The Five Doctors if he helped The Doctor, it's unknown whether said regenerations where ever granted). So it will be interesting to see what happens.
SnJester 3 months ago
@SnJester But you forget River gave the Doctor her 10 remaining regenerations. So he has actually 12 regenerations left.
DragonFire61100 3 months ago
@DragonFire61100 As river would say, SPOILERS! ;)
SnJester 3 months ago
@SnJester The Council of Time Lords no longer exists - the Doctor is the last Time Lord. He can choose to regenerate as many times as he wants to. In an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures the Doctor stated that he could regenerate over 500 times.
57DW 3 months ago
@57DW Canonically speaking that would have been a lie on the doctors behalf.
It's been stated in multiple occasions in multiple episodes that a timelord only has thirteen lives
Yes River gave up all of hers to save The Doctor, Yes the council no longer exists but I was stating what has been laid out in the classic stories (As well as the 8th Doctors movie)
SnJester 3 months ago
@SnJester The 13 regenerations rule has never been mentioned in the new series, so it's probably been abandoned. The show will obviously continue past 13 regenerations if it's popular. I can't imagine the doctor being killed and not regenerating.
57DW 2 months ago
@57DW it wasnt 13 regenerations i think it was 5 or somat as mentioned in the movie. and the doctor managed to get past it.
kawrght 2 months ago

Are the first 4 doctors dead?
j0sheed00d 3 months ago
@j0sheed00d The actors? no. Tom baker, the 4th, is still around I am certain. He's larger and has less colour in his hair but is still alive and kicking!

antaloliver 3 months ago
@rockohulkdoctorwho If you want to be technical, I'm pretty sure McCoy (7th Doctor) held the position for slightly longer than McGann - but only by a couple of months or so.
dragonash1993 3 months ago
@dragonash1993 McCoy was doctor from 1987-1989 for the TV show and returned in 1996 for the movie. McCann was only in the 1996 movie.

Regardless of people's opinions, I still wish we could one day see the Eighth Doctor Regenerate into the Ninth Doctor.

@rockohulkdoctorwho i think it can be that the paul mcgann was the form of the doctor until we saw christopher eccleston

@rockohulkdoctorwho Again, as I stated before, Regardless of the TV movie, McGann was the incumbent Doctor from after it aired til Eccelston turned upon screen. Not everyone accepts what on TV only.
SuperWolsey 4 months ago
@SuperWolsey Yes but all the books and comics crap besides the TV movie of the 8th doctor was all 1996, maybe 1997. None 1998-2005.
rockohulkdoctorwho 4 months ago
@rockohulkdoctorwho To you they're crap, but for others (myself included) they're not crap. Mind you if it wern't for Doctor Who Magazine, Big Finish Productions, Virgin, and BBC Books, we wouldn've have 9-11, The Sarah Jane Adventures & (unfortunately) Torchwood. These were/are the show's life support

TheWeirdMatt 3 months ago
@SuperWolsey And to you it's unfortunate that we have Torchwood, but for others (myself included) it's not unfortunate. I am a fan of the comics, the books, and all the on TV productions including spin offs.
JonEricksen1 3 months ago
@rockohulkdoctorwho Actually a lot of the radio stories, which are canon and included in the history of the TV show, are 8th doctor and were made this century not in 1996&1997.
The 8th doctor did play a much larger role than the 9th in the main story line. 9th doctor WAS the shortest incarnation, discounting the pre-1996 Peter Cushing movies which are not canon.
gleehmee 3 months ago
@rockohulkdoctorwho no their was a book series for his doctor that ran up to either 2004 or 2005

@doctorjade8th The 8th Doctor was the Doctor until the 9th took over, that's 9 years.
ACtheLegend 5 months ago
the 8th Doctor was the OFFICIAL Doctor from 1996 - 2004, making him the longest serving incarnation to date despite having the shortest screen-time of any incarnation to date also. Aside from just one TV movie, the 8th Doctor appeared in a large number of novels and audio adventures.
Danjo021 6 months ago 2
@doctorjade8th Im aware of that. Question is are you aware that there are others who consider Big Finish, DWM, & the novels his era more that just the TV movie?
SuperWolsey 6 months ago
@doctorjade8th Yet had more adventures outside the TV movie

Anyone find it coincidental that smith was born in the Fifth Doctor's era, who was then the youngest Doctor?
3treeroor 7 months ago 4
Picture at 1:36 doesn't count. This was a publicity shot for the spin-off episode "THE FIVE DOCTORS" from 1983, by which time William Hartnell was well dead, so the actor playing him is a lookalike, and Tom Baker is actually a waxwork dummy! (It really is, look closely!)
mistofoles 7 months ago
@airmilefull I am sorry but I cannot understand your reasoning.
Only Tom Baker Dr4, played him with little previous acting record. William Hartnell Dr1, made about 70 films. All the others had long acting records before being the Doctor. Please explain....
I agree with you that Paul McGann Dr8, only made a short film. So, Peter Cushing is twice as qualified a Doctor because he made 2 cinema films.
Matt Smith Dr11, did a lot of TV and theatre acting before becoming Doctor. What are you making up?
TheUncleBilly 8 months ago
@TheUncleBilly Oh God, I am so sorry. I KNOW who airmilefull is (sadly, as she's bonkers). Let me explain. 6 played someone else in the orginial show before getting the part of the Doctor.
8 was only in the film.
9 is the third actor to play 9, but the other two were either sketches or never made it somehow (i forget the circumstances, but I blieve it says this on IMDB)
i have NO idea what she means about 11 but she DID tell me once she thought he'd been the Doctor twice. (Told you she's mad)
3treeroor 8 months ago
@TheUncleBilly Ah but, in McGann's credit, his Doctor was a time lord and Cushing's 'Dr' was human. Plus his TARDIS interior was completely different and Cushing is counted by the BBC as unofficial anyway.

11 is my doctor , The Doctor I fist got into. Im also very found of 4 as well though , very similar demeanor 4 and 11.
macree01 8 months ago
There have actually been 13 Doctors.
Everybody seems to forget Peter Cushing in the 2 movies.
Plus, Richard Hurndall who played the part of William Hartnell when he died.
