  • 10/10...

    I agree.

My Ranking System Goes From E To SSS*

    And My Rating Is SSS*

This Game Is Just Plain Awesome In Every Way Shape Or Form.

  • This is as close to perfection as it gets. I have been playing this game since I was a kid and it never gets old for me. Adam missing wasn't a huge deal for me, but I think him not being playable in Streets of Rage 3 was a huge miss considering they let you play as a Kangaroo foolishness.

  • @Number1StarSB and shiva...the megadrive version ash (gay guy)

  • 2:36

    *Pop sound*

    O_o

Did you get an IM from someone on Facebook just then? It sounds like you did...

  • The only thing that always bugs me about this game everytime I play it is that goddamn jetpack enemy. So cheap! Other than that this is probably the only beat em up that I can play any time without geting bored or annoyed after afew levels since I'm not really a big fan of the genre. I am one of this game though...if that makes sense xD

  • both final fight and streets of rage really are the best beat em ups if not THE BEST BEAT EM UPS OF ALL TIME, both games have great controls, great music, awesome moves and combos, and fun stages. personally though i like streets of rage just a tad bit better just because of its style of atmosphere and music is so energizing to my mind and nostalgic, but don't get me wrong, final fight is worthy opponent with its atmosphere :)

  • Streets Of Rage has more moves than FF.. But I enjoy both

  • This game has one of the best soundtracks on the Genesis. The composer is a genius. This is probably my favorite Beat 'em up.

  • he fails to mention, other than wii points etc you can own it and every other megadrive game, and every console game on pc for nothing through emulators. you can even emulate PS2 GC and Wii games now

  • thats not rad man

  • @sigmahunter06 of course its rad, itsrad as fuck being able to play every game ever made, for free, and now with LCD tv's you can plug your PC into your front room TV, plug 2 or 4 USB joypads in and away you go on any game you want

  • still not rad.

  • I own a Genesis.

    And I own this game.

And I found it second-handed at a local second-hand stuff shop.

Therefore, all I can say is: YESSSSS!!!!

  • EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

  • Best game on the Sega Genesis/MD and best soundtrack in the entire Sega Genesis/MD library! Hands effing down!

    -kidThunder

  • Any respect for Golden Axe 3?

Those GA3 and SoR2 are in a tight competition to be the best beam-em ups in MD.

  • Never heard of GA3. Only the first GA game.

    -kidThunder

  • Check it out. Insane amount of moves, 4 characters (5 in vs mode), multiple path-picking where you pick 7 out of 12 different stages to go through the game, very good 16-bit music and awesome gameplay!

  • where do i get this game on my wii.?

  • Wii virtual console.

  • definately the best game ever. i actually played this before playing the original version, so when i did play it i was like who the hell is adam, so i couldn't really upset about that, and axel will always be my favorite character anyway. after all, the japanese version is "bare knuckle", and his uppercut move is called, bare knuckle.

  • Best scrolling beat 'em up of all time!

  • best game ever

  • I lol'ed for real when you said for people who dont realise the obvious Adam being kidnapped means he's not playable =P

  • buddy theres one other way to get it. I own sonic jems on japanese playstation, you can unlock sor1,2,3 on that

  • Streets of Rage 2 and Street Fighter 2 are my favourite games of all time.SOR 2 is the best side scrolling beat'em up of them all.The music by Yuzo Koshiro was fantastic.

  • I was a fan of these games back when they came out, but they are pretty repetitive and dumbed down. And I hate these games where your enemies fly off the screen and you have to wait around for them.

  • I was disappointed when I could not actually have online multiplayer with it

  • TOPDOG !!!!

  • Still got original version of this game and it still works. Great game and good review. Keep up good work.

  • Love love love it - definitely deserving of a 10.

  • By the way, you don't flying kick single enemies. Instead you do a flying knee, which doesn't knock them, so you end up grabbing them. This is one of those games where you needed the instruction manual, because none of the moves were explained in the game.

  • Streets of Rage 2 is the best console beat'em'up hands down.

I got Final Fight CD for my birthday and was very disappointed by the stiff animations, mundane characters, and by how few moves each character had compared to SoR2. I still liked it, and the sprites were huge, but it just wasn't the same.

  • Infinite Combo Game

  • The best character is Skate. He is very elusive for the AI and he has a lot of cool attacks!

  • I downloaded it on Live a while ago and I play it all the time! It's fun just punching some people to waste time. :D

  • a lot like Final Fight

  • Except WAAAAYYYYY BEtter. I played Final Fight recently and was bored out of my mind. I can play Streets of Rage 2 all day every day!

  • What you SHOULD have asked is where is my common sense? ;)

  • I got this game on Genenis. I just played today. I never got the part 3. I'll have to find somewhere

  • I rather play Streets of Rage remix for free, it's available online for pc and has better graphics and new chacaters.

  • I got this game. I downloaded it long time ago. This is very worth it 100%. I play with all the time still.

  • Yuzo Koshiro.

  • How do you spell the guy that composed the sound-tracks name?

  • The game was awesome but the best thing about it was the music. Gosh darn it was good. If they ever did make a street of rage 4 the music had better be good.

  • Axel was the best anyway.

  • agreed

  • one of the best Beat'em Ups ever (along with River City Ransom, Double Dragon, Golden Axe, & Final Fight)

  • btw the original version of SoR2 had energy bars for the bad guys to

  • it looks the fuckin same

  • not having adam did suck but when this game came out it i thought it was one of the best games ever made for genesis use to go to my friends house just to play the game never mind playing outside

  • shit maina is easy just got to play it more often ...oh heres ahint just throw the enemy dont bother kicking thier shit in it wont be as effective and youll loose alot of health doing it that way...

  • bridge music is the best

  • I dont mind that Adam is missing instead my biggest problem is that you dont have the backup anymore they were kick ass

  • Best Beat 'em up series ever.

  • all these punks lmao

  • it looks like rival turf for snes.

  • rival turf was gr8 as well

  • Woot look it's Z!

I just love beating the shit outta Z. :)

  • Streets Of Rage 1 had better stages , harder gameplay and better music in my opinion. Its more old school and basic. Better for it methinks.

  • Someone didn't play Mania.

  • Not everyone plays mania. Most people play Easy , Normal or Hard. Same as any other game. And in those respects Streets Of Rage 1 is certainly more challenging.

  • I still think the first one is easier because of the simple gameplay mechanics, but ok.

  • Mania is really hard playin by yourself =/

Hard is kind of easy to me

  • Even on the Hardest, the game was kind of easy.

  • yeh ur not lying they need to put vc online dont always got a friend to play wit plus more convienent

  • SOR2 FUCKING ROCKS!! BEST MUSIC! BEST BEAT-EM-UP!

    EVEEEEER!

    SOR2 makes Final Fight a pre-school game.

  • Final fight is a good series too but Streets of rage is a better game in my opinion and you are right about the music it's awesome especially in the first stage.

  • 10/10? This game looks lik the Ninja Turtles/Battletoads/River City seriei.

AI gets a D. Should I take this game off my wishlist?

  • sweet review man this game blew me away when i first played it and now its my fav game

    Axel kicks ass btw

  • 2 was my favorite SOR game. Great review too!

  • BEST.BEAT EM' UP.EVER.

  • Max is my fav character

  • I liked him the best as well. he had the best grapples

  • yeah

  • What I like about this game is that there are so many special moves for each character. That's what Final Fight lacks.

  • thse punks are gay

  • me and my lil cuzn used 2 play dis game all da time wen we wuz lil...makin sure i get it on my wii friday wit the rest of my retro games

  • You have the ability to access the internet and create a youtube account... yet you lack 2nd grade grammar... interesting.

  • ok...long as u understand...the military loves my grammar

  • This game came out today on XBOX Live and the multiplatyer is awesome. fun stuff.

  • Thanks for the review! I just downloaded it and it's amazing!

  • The Wii version is overpriced ($8), it has no online multiplayer. I am waiting for the XBOX Live version which will have Multiplayer online.

  • Hello? That's because the Wii version of SOR2 is based on the original Genesis game; even I downloaded the game and enjoyed it. Just stay tuned...

  • It looks like you got your wish! Whether on the VC or XBLA, Streets of Rage 2 remains as the best beat'em up ever.

  • best on all consoles?

  • Yes, the game is even best on the Genesis. It's to the preference of the gamer.

  • GameSpot's

    River City Ransom: 9.0

    TMNT: 7.7; II: 8.6; III: 8.5; TF: 7.8, 7.6; IV: 8·3/8·9

    Battletoads: 8.4, 7·3/7·9Gen; Battlemaniacs: 7·7/7·9

    Double Dragon: 8.3, 6.0/8.0Gen; II: 8.6; III:7.7, 5·0/6·0; Super: 8.4; V: 5·7/6·9, 4.6; Adv: 8·3/7·5/8·3

    Heavenly Sword: 8·2/8·1/8·5

  • Actually, I meant Streets of Rage 2 on the Genesis. Some prefer to play Streets of Rage 2 on Genesis or XBLA and Virtual Console.

  • Even on the Virtual Console, the Mania code is still intact. In the main menu, hold (A)+(B) on controller 2 while selecting Options. Those were the Genesis buttons; either hold A+Button 1 (Wiimote), Y+B (Classic Controller), or B+A (GC Controller).

  • thx for the info, i jus had to complete it on hardest setting to get the code. im used to the Megadrive version on the game where u had to hold a direction aswell. plus, i got confused because u dont use button 1 during gameplay but you do to activate the cheat.

  • This is the best "walk to the right and bash in everybody's skulls" game ever made.

However, I think I prefer the music from the first SOR, although SOR2 is also fabulous.

Ahh, they just don't make soundtracks like they used to...

  • I love this game!

  • I have it for the dreamcast and for the Wii. It is awesome.

  • You do know that the DC Sega Smash Pack had poor emulation.

  • I know but I don't have it for the geneses. sorry about my spelling. One thing I don't like about the one for the Wii is the sound quality. It is different.

  • Of course it is different; that's how it's supposed to sound like on the Genesis. You must have been used to the Sega Smash Pack and like I said, the DC collection had poorly emulated games.

  • review gamespower 50

  • If you are a fan of streets of rage come and join a recently created group about a new streets of rage for the next generation this group is at the url name SoRnextgen. This is about streets of rage 4.

  • I'm off to download now!!, My favourite soundtrack on retro games were top gear 2(snes), megaman2 and shadow of the beast (amiga) all had awesome soundtracks.

  • Hey another guy that liked the top gear 2 soundtrack!! Do you know where I could get the music? The game didn't have a soundtest, and the one place that has all the game music I can think of (gaubadiahotel) didn't have the real music from the game.

  • Hey guys. Rad Retro gamer here. I didn't like this game very much, it was terrible, so i'm going to give it a 9.5 out of 10.

  • 10! Side scrolling beat 'em ups forever!

  • i donno if i agree with the 10 out of 10, the gameplay is really repetitive.

  • Great Job on the review as usual

  • Yeah this game rocks I have it on my Wii and I gotta say that this game is just a prime example of what a sequel should be :D

    I'm from Finland BTW :D

And I just love your videos, In my opinion they are the best on youtube

  • hey alphanerd, i thought you were gonna review pokemon diamond and pearl

  • Im planning on buying a wii, but I got some questions, if u will download games like this, where do they be saved? In the console? if, how much space do It have and how much does a game take? Yeah and how many points do usually games like these cost? And last: Do you need any special controller to play these games? If, wich? Thanks, nice vid. I <3 Streets of Rage 2 got it on genesis :) .

  • When you buy them, they are saved to the Wii Console; so if you delete them you can redownload them for free (on the same wii only). Games cost five bucks and up; and for some games you need either a Gamecube controller or a Virtual Console controller. The Wiimote works with all NES games and a few Genesis games but you need a controller for the others. Also, you will have plenty of space for about 30 or more games.

  • I heard some people saying that both the GameCube and Classic controllers affect playing VC games.

  • 1) The game appears on the main Wii menu as a channel. (Yes, it's dtored in the system's harddrive.)

2)The games take up very little space and you can just delete one when you're tired of and reload it for free when you have room.

    3)Wii points are payed for like this;

    100 Wii Points=$1 American.

    4) For downloaded NES and TurbografX16 games, you can just use the Wii remote, and for any other downloaded games, you can use a Gamecube Controller OR a special Wii Classic Controller.

  • Koshiro actually produced a handful of video games! His design team Ancient developed Beyond Oasis for the Sega Genesis, as well as Car Battler Joe for the Game Boy Advance and its predecessor Vatlva (Car Battler Jim) for the Sega Saturn.

    JR

  • Not to mention that Koshiro's recent games were Wangan Midnight (along with Maximum Tune 1 and 2), Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Etrian Odyssey (both for DS).

  • RETRO RULES!

  • May I just say, I love being called rad.

  • ppl, I realized eariler that SOR copied Final Fight. Y I say that , look at the thugs you beat up,they are like exactly the same thing; the runing fat bald guys , the punks w/ the radiation jackets, Axel and Cody are like the exact same character & the sluts. If you own Capcoms Classics on PS2 and SOR, look and see for yourself and compare.

  • The SOR franchise proves that a clone can surpass the original (Final Fight).

  • long review but still good great game

  • Moar VC reviews.

  • Fantastic review AlphaNerd! When I get my Wii, I'll definetely give this game a go.

  • What can I say? You convinced me. Now I have to download it. Very informative review as always.

  • Great review alhph, brought back some cool memories, didnt it used to go slow mo when you koed the bosses?

Wasnt there 3 other characters? you should of showed us some gameplay with those guys :(

Yeah it was amazing fun though!

Post more often please, Retro rulezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Good game, good soundtrack. Too bad the Genesis sound hardware was so bad. Super Adventure Island and Actraiser demonstrated how good Yuzo was with superior hardware.

  • It is great to have Streets of Rage 2 on Virtual Console. I feel puzzled to why Sega omitted the trilogy in the recent compilation Sega Genesis Collection and the US Sonic Gems Collection (Japan got them). (Sega's unawareness was not an excuse)

  • Amazing Review For An Amazing Game.

    Gr8 Work as Always
