Greatest of all time. Pat was the ONLY keeper who not only saved with one hand but caught with one hand. He also invented the jacknife, arching back, one-handed tip-over. And he is a thoroughly nice, modest bloke.
In 1973 he saved two penalties in the same game at Anfield, one from Kevin Keegan and one from Tommy smith. It wasn't televised so there's no visual record unfortunately. When Spurs came to Anfield in the 1973-74 season, Liverpool were awarded another penalty and Jennings saved it (from Emlyn Hughes I think). The ref ordered it to be retaken and Alec Lindsay scored. Incredible goalie. There were so many good ones around then as well.
The best goalkeeper ever to grace the game - my hero and a hero for many goalies like me,with cut knees - all wanting just to be like Pat.. look at these saves and weep.. fantastic.
Your not world class are you? and your full of it !of course you never played professional football or in two World cups did you? Cocky fake smart arse! easy for cowards like you to say! hmmmph!
true spurs legend, hands like fucking shovels! wish he was young now would be worth millions, buffon couldn"t chew the great mans gum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you agree. I always admired Alex Stepney BUT when you see the ease with which Big Pat pulls of the saves - truly a great keeper.
I have, most, of a documentary about Pat Jennings that was shown on TV recently. I will convert it from VHS and post it here soon. keep an eye out for it!
Pat Jennings was the perfect example how a goalkeeper should be. Great character, for me he is the best ever.
6 World Cup participations including qualifiers (1966-1986) - still the European record. 119 caps for Northern Ireland in 22 years. Plus the best goalie in the Football League.
What a legend, great to see keepers who catch the ball, none o this punching carry on that all keepers seem to aspire to nowadays.Does anyone know a link for Pats goal?May have been for N.Ireland.
I'm happy to say it was for Tottenham and not Arsenal :) Didnt remember what game, but according to Wikipedia it was the 1967 Charity Shield against as you said Stepney in the United goal.
What a gent Big Pat is and a great ambassador for N. Ireland. Loved by all and the only keeper I have ever seen making consistent one hand saves/ catches. His hands are like shovels. I loved hearing him speak, what a lovely deep accent he has, far nicer than them Millies from Belfast..
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the clip I wish I had more to share. To be honest football in those days was more enjoyable to watch or is it that I am older and more cynical!! Anyway Big Pat always came across as a true Gentleman and if you were lucky enough to meet him in person you would probably find that he was/is indeed a decent bloke!!
I have loads of video of Big Pat but no clue as to how to get it on Youtube. He has been my hero since I was 4 or 5 - I'm 43 now! Met him at Spurs for my 40th, he invited us to his lounge at White Hart Lane - a really great man & the best goalkeeper I've ever seen.
Well I took mine from old VHS tapes. I wanted to be able to view them on my iMac and my iPod. I did it by recording onto my digital camcorder and then importing to computer and easy from there! I wasn't going to watch the VHS tape again but I wanted to be able to view these again in other formats. I gave the tapes to my Dad!! I am almost 43!! So we grew up in the same era! Myself am a Utd fan, my best friend is a Spurs fan and gets to all the home games n more besides!!

You can tell he was one of the best by the amount of times the commentators go and a "great save again"

@08Gillen I think he's the best goalkeeper in 1980s, even better than Zoff and Rinat Dasaev

I might be wrong BUT I think it was Arsenal versus Man Utd. He scored against Alex Stepney, Stepney misjudged the bounce of the ball!!
