This movie should be mandatory in high schools, or something. I didn't get it for the first 5 minutes, but then it blew me away. Something about culture, Chaos, and the mind. We all go through stages of dorky-ness, I guess.

Great movie...Austin's changed alot since then and not for the better unfortunately. With some key councilmember changes it has since increased its police authority further in areas such as no refusal weekends and the use of police checkpoints. Development has become the center of focus for the city and causing it to outgrow its old recognition as a libertarian beacon of living. As Abbey would say, "Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell".

I think that's one of the most greatest things about this movie. One of these numerous characters are someone like all of us. I love Linklater and his works. I consider him as one of the most experimental American film makers in the new age. I consider Slacker to be one of my MOST favorite movies ever. I have watched the movies umpteen times and can never forget some parts of the vignette like first scene with Linklater himself. I watched Wizard of Oz again after this movie! Amazing movie!!!
