Man... I have been doing artwork and doodling since I was a young kid and my artistic influence in my circles is praised as decent. however, all I look for in a character or art piece that I want to say something, is that it needs to feel real enough to me on a level that a person who is nothing like me can piece together the idea in the first minute or two of seeing said art piece. Todd has always been my fave artist because we share a lot of similar views and tackle things in a similar manner.
hmm, how about we start at : bringing Michael Jai White back, Voiced by Keith David again, put some heaven vs hell angels that look like grim reapers in it. let's start there. then make it dark as hell, gritty as hell, and amazing as hell like spawn is supposed to be. the animated series is the only thing that seems to be doing justice to the comics.....
@jeetkunedo117 I agree I'd like to see the redeemer's character used in a sequel. Spawn needs another match and they made it to cartoony with the violator/clown. My only problem with this idea of a "scary, creepy movie" is that he could make it a horror movie opposed to a graphic novel movie. Like you said he should just convert his HBO cartoon into a movie.

I am so excited for the new Spawn film. I feared that another Spawn film was never going to be made. Knowing that McFarlane has full control over this assures me that without a doubt, this is going to be a great movie. I am just a tiny bit disappointed it sounds like there will be no Violator or any of his Phlebiac brothers or Malebolgia..Although, I am really excited and curious to see what actors will portray Sam and Twitch. i think a spawn reboot is fine, but i want to see spawn more reserved this time,michael white was very teen jock and mellow-dramatic even theatrical. i like terry crews for the role. he has the build and attitude. keep the story in the streets, but i still want satan to use violator to pull the strings in spawns life and needle him. we can hint at a larger plan with this and reveal it in the sequals. each movie is a battle that spawn fights in the war against satan. i think that is clever enough

crews is way bigger anyway, physically and in popularity. crews is a true actor. he may not have the fighting skills that white has but spawn is not said to have blackbelts. crews has heart. white is a caraciture of emotion. once white stops fighting and starts talking its all over. and anyway this is being conceived as a reboot thus automaticly making white obsolete.

I've been hearing this same crap from McFarlane for years, the new animation has yet to materialize and you can go back as far as 98 and he was describing the exact same movie sequel. They need to take Spawn away from him just look at what he's done to the comic of late to see what I mean. simple...base the movie on the animated series and make it R-rated, I DO NOT like his description of how he wants to do it. I don't want a detective movie. The problem with the 1997 movie was that the story was dumbed down and changed. The original comic has a lot of really really great material for movie goers. Do you think that the millions and millions of people who went to saw spider-man were turned off by it being a comic movie? absolutely not, they went and watched it because they knew it was a comic hero. Same with Watchmen, they had a much smaller dedicated fan base and they still made a killing.

Make this movie for the fans that grew up with spawn, you're thinking too much from a business perspective, the only reason why the Marvel and DC movies weren't respected by their comic fans was because they thought from that "business perspective" go with the big studio but write the script yourself. ZOMG! He should definitely go for the tight budged idea; it's so much more compelling and original than all the other generic comicbook action movies they've made so far. Spawn isn't about action; it’s about a dark/gothic/noir/existentialistic story with an anti-Hero fighting for neither good nor evil. The comic was good because it was different, so the movie should be too. The idea is great, now he just needs to execute it properly.

dude i used to collect spawn comics when i was younger, I love spawn, but what I've noticed is that they don't tend to follow the comic books storyline, when they turned it into the movie i was really disapointed
He should really not write or direct himself. The medium does not translate the same way, we all remember "The Spirit" he should however provide a story credit and get someone like George a Romero or John Carpenter to direct instead. Carpenters "Halloween" is on par with "Jaws" and would be a great eye to the adaptation to the comic. Even someone like Sylvain White whose "Losers" was actually not a bad looking, just kind of dumb. Romero because of Dawn of the Dead obviously a worthy candidate.

McFarlane isn't that great a writer, his directing might be okay, but he hasn't had any experience except for music videos. And you know what those aren't movies. First off Spawn looks like a zombie and is a walking dead guy. Romero hasn't made many movies other than zombie films, but he's a good director and know how to approach this type of subject matter. Do you even know who Carpenter is he's perfect, Snake Plisken, Hello!!! McFarlane would butcher his own film by not having experience.

I like Todd McFarlane. Always have. Never understood the hate this guy gets. I think he's a creative storyteller and hell of an artist. He can definitely ramble when he talks, but I always enjoy just hearing what he things about his things. If I were Todd, I would consider perhaps maybe asking John Carpenter how he pulled off the first Halloween which was sort of the same thing. Laurie thinks she's seeing Michael Myers and the audience gets glimpses of him but in this case instead of the heroes being attacked, the villians are. Kind of similar to Sam Keith's work on the MTV oddworld adaptation of The Maxx. You see a bad guy, then he's pulled into the shadow within a cardboard box followed by muffled scream. Few noir elements too.

I dont think there should be a part 2. Remake the whole thing. The 1st Hulk movie was a flop because it was too political. It was remade with the comicbook in mind and was a great success. After the first film people wont be interested in seein a 2nd part. If you stick to the comic and its story line and keep the mood and atmosphere of the animation you cant go wrong. ok i grew up in the 90s and spawn was and still is my favorite comic character. the last movies did suck, but i enjoyed it as a kid, and, if mcfarlane is going to do another movie, i'd like to enjoy it at the age i am now. what i got from this interview was "i want to make a movie 13 year old girls would like to see" not "i'd like to please my fans who grew up loving spawn and are now in their twenties by making a more mature movie with good actors and good special effects."
The first Spawn movie totally let me down. I was very disappointed on how the story was completely twisted up and how they changed the story line and made where Al Simmons was killed by his boss instead of Chapel. The CGI on Spawn's transformation was impressive as so was the Violater. Hopefully, the remake will blow the original Spawn movie out of the water. I am hoping he goes with a new director. I personally think Sam Raimi would be a great director for the new Spawn!

I am so excited for the new Spawn film. I feared that another Spawn film was never going to be made. Knowing that McFarlane has full control over this assures me that without a doubt, this is going to be a great movie. I am just a tiny bit disappointed it sounds like there will be no Violator or any of his Phlebiac brothers or Malebolgia..Although, I am really excited and curious to see what actors will portray Sam and Twitch. The problem with the 1997 movie was that the story was dumbed down and changed. The original comic has a lot of really really great material for movie goers. Do you think that the millions and millions of people who went to saw spider-man were turned off by it being a comic movie? absolutely not, they went and watched it because they knew it was a comic hero. Same with Watchmen, they had a much smaller dedicated fan base and they still made a killing.

Spawn isn't about action; it’s about a dark/gothic/noir/existentialistic story with an anti-Hero fighting for neither good nor evil. The comic was good because it was different, so the movie should be too. The idea is great, now he just needs to execute it properly.

He should really not write or direct himself. The medium does not translate the same way, we all remember "The Spirit" he should however provide a story credit and get someone like George a Romero or John Carpenter to direct instead. Carpenters "Halloween" is on par with "Jaws" and would be a great eye to the adaptation to the comic. Even someone like Sylvain White whose "Losers" was actually not a bad looking, just kind of dumb. Romero because of Dawn of the Dead obviously a worthy candidate.

McFarlane isn't that great a writer, his directing might be okay, but he hasn't had any experience except for music videos. And you know what those aren't movies. First off Spawn looks like a zombie and is a walking dead guy. Romero hasn't made many movies other than zombie films, but he's a good director and know how to approach this type of subject matter. Do you even know who Carpenter is he's perfect, Snake Plisken, Hello!!! McFarlane would butcher his own film by not having experience.

If I were Todd, I would consider perhaps maybe asking John Carpenter how he pulled off the first Halloween which was sort of the same thing. Laurie thinks she's seeing Michael Myers and the audience gets glimpses of him but in this case instead of the heroes being attacked, the villians are. Kind of similar to Sam Keith's work on the MTV oddworld adaptation of The Maxx. You see a bad guy, then he's pulled into the shadow within a cardboard box followed by muffled scream. Few noir elements too.

I dont think there should be a part 2. Remake the whole thing. The 1st Hulk movie was a flop because it was too political. It was remade with the comicbook in mind and was a great success. After the first film people wont be interested in seein a 2nd part. If you stick to the comic and its story line and keep the mood and atmosphere of the animation you cant go wrong. I remember I really liked the old Spawn movie.That was when it and comics were hot shit. I don't blame him for wanting to sell out.Spawn haven't been relevant in a long time.Nothing wrong with wanting to make an entertaining movie that anyone can enjoy.If only Spawn fans go see it...then it would tank no question.

Don't be a sellout Todd, I don't blame him for wanting to get everyone to recognize spawn, but what will his real fans. think, and fans of spawn. He should be more worried about that. But yes I would love for it to be a rated R intense movie. But I don't want spawn to be cgi that would suck.

I want a new Spawn Animated Series that continue the first Spawn Animated Series, and I want them to be the same, of course, new stuff and a better look, but I want them to continue the story where they left and continue making just like the firs Series were, it was pretty cool and good.
Also I want a movie like the first Animated Series, with special effects, with a great story, with great visuals and great action sequences, make it BIG and with A VERY HIGH QUALITY Todd! Please! Come on!

When I think of Spawn, I want 3 things.
1. To explore the tortured character that is man/spawn
2. lots of badassness on spawn's part
3. atmosphere as dark as the comics
I say give it to a big budget company who can give it the transformers level treatment CGI and make it R

ok i grew up in the 90s and spawn was and still is my favorite comic character. the last movies did suck, but i enjoyed it as a kid, and, if mcfarlane is going to do another movie, i'd like to enjoy it at the age i am now. what i got from this interview was "i want to make a movie 13 year old girls would like to see" not "i'd like to please my fans who grew up loving spawn and are now in their twenties by making a more mature movie with good actors and good special effects."

The first Spawn movie totally let me down. I was very disappointed on how the story was completely twisted up and how they changed the story line and made where Al Simmons was killed by his boss instead of Chapel. The CGI on Spawn's transformation was impressive as so was the Violater. Hopefully, the remake will blow the original Spawn movie out of the water. I am hoping he goes with a new director. I personally think Sam Raimi would be a great director for the new Spawn!

the reason they couldn't use Chapel was because Liefield for no reason had no interest in seeing his character placed in it.
